\:D/ "Everybody's wearin' those kinky boots, kinky boots... kinky boots!" \:D/

Well, my SV is now at least. I nearly, soooo nearly went for the Met' Z6's, but the guys at Protyre (some bikers) were raving on about these new Michelins;

http://www.michelin.co.uk/uk/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=66

"Fine" I was saying, "I know that Pilots will grip well, but they'll be down under 1mm in 2000 miles".

"Ah, not so" reply the tyre jockeys. "These use the Michelin 2CT dual compound technology. Hard in the middle, soft and gummy on the shoulders."

I checked out a few reviews and write ups. Sure enough, these new Pilot 2's report to hold up just as well if not better under milage than the Z6's, Stradas and any Bridgestone.
The whole concept seems logical too. The Z4's I just ditched still had a good 1000 miles of wear on the shoulders, but my daily motorway commute (short as it is at about 10 miles ish) had squared off the rear significantly.

So I went for the Michelins. Protyre wanted £196 for the Z6's fitted on the bike. The Pilot Road 2's set me back £203. The service at Protyre was first class. No greasy crud on the rims, calipers back properly, chain tensioned, cup of coffee.

I've done 1.3 miles on the new rubber so far. I'll keep you posted. First impressions are that they feel flippin' lush! But I guess anything would be better than my square and bald Z4's.

O... M... G!

I'll take first prize in the 'state the bleedin' obvious' contest now, but what a difference some decent rubber makes!!!

My only previous experience when it comes to switching about with tyres is on 125's, but that having been said, I cannot believe how different my SV handles now.

Went out for a 'spirited' ride to Sidmouth today. (A last minute realisation that the sun was out, the clouds were in and I had a rare free afternoon!) Took a gander at the stricken Napoli. You can just see it over my left shoulder...

http://upload6.postimage.org/80694/IMG_2578.jpg (http://upload6.postimage.org/80694/photo_hosting.html)

(Furrybeans ex-leathers still making me look all hard and manly...  )

When the doddering old codgers in their Nissans got out of the way I had the chance for some fun. And what fun! The bike falls into bends so sweetly now and lean is suddenly, well, simple! No drama. Everything feels absolutely stable, stuck fast and under control even when I start playing silly buggers in the twisty bits. My mate on his FZR1000 was knackered trying to keep up. Which he couldn't. Well, OK. He got me on the straight bits!

Such a major difference over the old Z4's. I'm very, very happy with these tyres! :D :D :D

just out of interest philh, did you get a 160/60 rear pilot road 2CT fitted? Their website doesn't list is as a supplied size, but I'm interested in trying these out for milage.

I've got these on my GSXR, getting around 3 to 3.5K out of a rear at the moment. I'd think you'd get more out of the SV. They've gone square now but took a lot of motorway bashing before they did so.

Is the correct size for the SV available from Michelin?? I dont see 120/60 and 160/60 as available on their website. Please let us know if you managed to get these sizes

Thinking of trying these. Not that happy with the Diablos. Loved my 010's.

How do these compare to other makes?

Oh £197 ride in / ride out.

Might have to get a pair of these today.....

Bike is in for its 4k service - just got a call saying all done, but there is a nail in my rear.

So if not repairable will be considering Pilot Road 2's.

Due to a square rear Z6 and a Nail in the front (on the way to Watlings) i have a shiney new pair of Pilot Road 2's.

The difference is better than going from std Dunlops to Z6's.....

Scrubbed in bu 200 miles over sat/Sun just gone.

Didnt feel right to start with i must admit and was quite dubious, right till i overcooked it going onto a roundabout (about 80 miles into scrubin) and it just flicked round perfectaly at about 20mph faster than i ever hit the roundabout before.

It's almost as if the tyres WANT to lean you into a corner, straight line stability is fine no im used to them, just got to see how they pan out in the wet.

just got to say again, i'm simply astounded as to the difference these tyres have made.

Has anyone toasted one of these yet (ideally a front & a rear too).

I'm interested, but they have to be able to cope with the miles.

Yeah any feedback on these would be great. Have my MOT/service in a week and was going to replace the Z6s I have 'cos they've been on quite a while even though I could squeeze another couple of thou out of them...wanted some new stuff for the summer.

Was gonna go Z6s again, but these look tempting. Look forward to hearing more about them.

I've only done about 250 miles since they've been fitted, but hopefully doing a 1000 or so this weekend. I'm gonna keep a log of mileage and depth of tread. You'll be able to check em out at the end of May hopefully Baph.

Sounds like a plan pete, I'll be needing new rubber (front & back probably) after that ride as well.

Plumped for thse myself in the end, early reviews seem good so they'll go on early next week I think.

Will post back here with feedback when I have some!

I got some of these fitted yesturday, the difference was how I always imagined going from an SV to a sports 6 would be in handling...

I can't tell yet if its only because of having new tyres or if its this particular make but damn does it feel good. I was doing my motorway sliproad (long bendy thing) about 20mph then I could on my worn 020's and I was still taking it easy on the tires due to the rubbing in period!

I reckon once rubbed in i'll be able to do it full throttle :p

woot!

Right just clocked up a thousand miles on mine. Only sunny day riding so far:), so no feedback on wet weather ability.

Bear in mind that these are all two-up miles too. So they have lost about 1mm of tread. 6mm left.

Performance: Fantastic:p Much better than the Diablo's IMO. For my riding style at least. Inspire confidence especially the front end. Michelin recommend 34 front and 36 rear, with no increase in pressure for pillions or speed. Was a bit sceptical but no sidewall flexing as far as I can feel.

Mine go on tomorrow so an evening review will be forthcoming as long as the bike passes the MOT

oh.. the big dilema

z6's or the pilot's
Have to get new tyres within a week... (going on a longer trip, around 900 miles in 5 days next week). Prices are almost the same (£189 vs £195 fitted)
doing daily commuting, about 120 miles a week, plus the occasional trip on the weekend.
Can anyone say more about longevity?

Cheers

Try these guys: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=82231

They had posters up advertising the PR2's while I was there today - I'd already ordered the Z6's though...

Now i am only on the Dunlop Sportmax Stock tyres, although there is loads of tread left in them. . but if i was to upgrade to better tyres what sort of difference can i expect to see? never really been down the tyre road before so im not too sure what to do/expect much like "scrubbing" them in.
i was looking at the pilot road 2's so what difference will i see??? :smt039

Hey all. Picking up the SV in the morning. Was browsing this as the darn thing need new rubber but not for the performance levels some of you guys will need for yours. May well put Mac100X on it for now. The reason I'm quoting dyzowg is that, if you need tyres with high grip levels that will go forever then you need Pirreli Diablo Stradas. I have them on my XJR13 with 5k on the tyres and they're just starting to show flat in the middle. In fact I'm putting a flat spot on the tyre wall on the front! They do nothing wrong, ever! warm up fast, grip in the rain and a mate of mine I ride with is impressed as he rides a 955i with Rennsports and I live with him fairly easily. I'd be interested to know if these road 2's give any feedback as I've always found Michelins to give little warning before they loose grip, they stick like * to a blanket then don't in my experience.

You will go from having round black things on your wheels to something called tyres.

Scrubbing tyres in is common sense, ride smoothly, let them warm up and don't ty to eradicate your chicken strips in the first 10 min. The mould release residue on the tyres is the slippery bit and the bike shop should use shellite or similar to remove most of it for you.

Each tyre brand tends to have it's own characteristics so it's a matter of finding what you feel most comfortable with. Tyre choice is a very subjective thing so check out what people are based on their use and develop a short list.
