Question
Where would day trippers meet the main group?

Or is it OK to turn up shortly after dawn, at the camp site, with loud exhaust and awaken .ORGers who have hangovers?

rictus01

A weekend schedule will be posted nearer the time it'll have the start location for the rideout and also the time and location of the rideout photo beforehand if you want to be in that.

Cheers Mark.

I know it's probably a bit early to be talking about the route etc but Devil's Bridge is about 10 or 11 miles up the A65 from the camspite & might be an ideal meeting / start point for the rideout...

There is a strong possibility that Mrs Ape will not be able to ride pillion or drive due to having had ankle surgery and more than likely will have either a plaster cast still on or at the minimum will be in a Beckham boot. Anyone that is travelling up in a 4 wheel type of vehicle and has a spare seat and will or could go via Newbury, I would be very grateful if the could also take her.

If it helps, she is clean and will keep her feet off the seats. (Oh and she doesn't smoke).

There's a comments part on the booking form. I used that to say I was the org.

I'll be heading down from Carlisle on the Friday afternoon if anyone fancies the arduous 72 mile trek with some company :D

Heed
03-02-07, 08:16 PM
I was joking about the arduous bit. I know that there will be people riding hundreds of miles to attend. I'm just quite pleased that my first AR is so local. A solo ride doesn't bother me as I normally ride solo but I thought some company would be good for the spirit of things. I know there's a few SV riders based in and around Carlisle.

Also are other bikes welcome? One of my mates rides a tiger and might be interested in attending one of the days.

Should be booking next week, pay day you see.
So will be travelling up from Portsmouth if anyone cares to join me, hopefully lacking the nail in tyre incident!

From my house on Multi-map.
Estimated duration:
4 hours, 57 minutes
Total distance:
298.4 miles (480.2 km)

Who's traveling further?

I don't want to jump the gun here as I don't know whether I'll be able to ride at all, or if I can what sort of distance, so will reserve judgment until such time as I know.

But, if all goes well I'd am to travel up Friday morning from London, so a cut across country isn't out of the question, have to wait and see though.

I will have Isaac with me that weekend, which will make travel interesting. I think we have several options:

1. both pillion all the way there (not a good idea)
2. Take the train up to Lancaster or thereabouts, with all our camping and bike gear and get picked up from station somehow (complicated and impractical with all that stuff)
3. Give the whole thing a miss (:( )
4. hitch a lift in a 4-wheeled thing and take our tent and biking gear with us (perfect if a volunteer steps up)

Anyone got any better ideas?

I was planning on heading south but will ride along with you guys if we meet.

hope my GPS lasts 4 hours.

Does your GPS work from 12V dc? Most do. Most probably you've got in your box an in-car cigarette lighter connector with a convertor to charge/supply your GPS from. So all you've got to do is install a cigarette lighter socket from your battery so you could plug the GPS into. That's what I did. No more power let downs.

If I set off from home around 10, that get's me to Manchester around 12ish. Obviously exact times/routes TBC.

Depending on where you want to meet there's a top truck stop on junction 44 of the M6 but it's only open until 2pm (not that I'm there often  ). I'll just be prepared to get shown up down the A6.

Well looks like I'm now on a course with work that week so will be travelling back from Leeds via Ripon (my Dad's to pick up tent etc...) and then across to the campsite for Friday evening (via Hawes or Pately Bridge). Due to the vague timing of course finishing etc. I'll make my own way across and meet people at the campsite.

Does anyone know if there is a shop nearby for beer/wine etc, or will I be strapping a case of wine and 24 pack along with the three man tent with porch/garage area?

And will this require me to use my last notch or two of preload? ;)

El Saxo
21-02-07, 07:54 PM
Tim, there's a very small shop & post office in the village of Austwick - i called in to try & get cash but as it turned out I couldn't.

Anyway, It sells various tins of food, a bit fo fresh stuff (small deli counter) and a few different beers / wines. Very much the typical 'local shop for local people'

Depending what time you get there, there's a good chance it'll be shut.

There's a supermarket up the A65 at Kirby Lonsdale though (unless anyone knows of a nearer one?), so i was planning to arrive, put up tent etc, then go for a quick blat to the supermarket with an empty tankbag & fit as much beer in as possible!!

I am pootling up on me todd early ish... bein a greeter..

however i must say this.......

if yu can pair up threes up- group up DO IT !

I rode up and back to the norf /south with Fizz and e.d and I must say it felt more secure- like we had more prescence on the motorway- nice feeling if you felt low when u stopped there was a laugh and somene to talk to..plus of course that safety blanket of other people if needed for any reason ..

I reccomend it..

but- ... give each other full names and emerg contact numbers before u r off.. and have 5 mins explaining your riding style- speeds you prefer- if you have filtered before etc... who;s leading- if you pull into the inside line it means can someone else lead for 20 miles or so... and of course-- who has the smallest tank and when petrol stops will be needed in terms of miles passed... stagger your positions so front riders can mirror you visually..

good section on group riding by cronos on the forum .. give it a read.

its an ace break and it starts as soon as you leave your door.. so having company makes it all the more fun with camaradre (sp) etc..

ride safe one and all.

see you there .

we're riding up with a couple of noobs from around here. Met one of them over weekend and have thouroughly explained there is no pressure on getting there in a hurry. I plod along and matt,,,well thats different. However he has a great deal of patience for new riders( funny..not with mine these days) and a great sense of direction and experience for such a young man. Which is why I offered his help. I like riding with a few, makes me feel more secure.
Thats providing he gets that flippin raptor fixed. Don't want him borrowing suzy, she doesn't like him, but at least she's running...he he

you will know 2mths and I! though our route looks miserably straight. time to find my crayons!
