Anyone else seen it? I went to see it with the missus tonight...
What an awesome movie with such a strong storyline :!: Some very familiar scenes from South Africa as well... :D

Saw it last week.

Good film but Leo DiCaprio's accent was annoying & thought there was too much over-dramatic music on the score - some scenes would have been much more tense with no music at all.

Still enjoyed it though :)

Seen it, and liked it a lot.

Leonardo has really become a better actor in the later years. His first films weren't all that good. IMO.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Basketball Diaries were top films, he made some right dross after that...

I think he pulled the accent off really well TBH...
He sounded just like a friend of mine does back in SA...actually he looked just like him as well.
When he called the soldier a "doos", the wife and I both started giggling but no-one else in the cinema did...I suppose its a bit like the afrikaans that Arnold Vosloo spoke in two or three scenes as well...the wife and I knew what he was saying but everyone else just looked very bewildered and lost :)
Overall I think Leo played the part really well. The irony though is that when we got home, a documentary had just started on the history channel about the blood diamonds of sierra leone.

He is, finally, starting to look like he's older than 22.

I too found the score to be a bit overly dramatic at times, some parts were very reminiscent of Black Hawk Down.

Djimon Houson is definately one to watch though, I can see him tackling parts that would otherwise suit a younger Morgan freeman.

Good film but Leo DiCrapio's accent was annoying

I reserve myself the right to change the order of some letters in his last name until proven wrong.

He was great in The Quick and the Dead.

Well, he got shot to death, which was satisfying.

I remember finding a movie prop warehouse that was selling, amongst other things, the AK47 (complete with rubber stock and fake blood smear) that smashed into his face in that move whose title temporarily escapes me...

... 'Lord of the Flies'esque, on a deserted island. I remember they got into trouble for ripping up the beach and replanting a load of palm trees or something else that hippies were whinging about...

... hang on...

... that was it. The Beach. I knew I'd get there in the end.

I remember watching Jonathan Ross's review of the film & he said a South African friend of his just fell about laughing when he heard L'DiC's accent  I guess it depends which bit of Africa he's actually supposed to be from - IIRC in the film he says he's from Zimbabwe, not SA.

Razor - spot on about those 2 films, both great. I thinks he's made some decent stuff recently too - he was excellent in The Departed. If you haven't seen it then you should do so NOW!

Fair Tricky. Fair. Tommy managed to be worse.
Maybe DiCaprio's research on Irish accents was based on Tom Cruises' character.

Aye, but the opening scenes of 'Gangs' are superb imo. Shame about the rest.

Basically every scene with Bill The Butcher is superb.
Seriously. He is one of the best psychopaths in cinema. Completely terrifying furious raging performance. Apparently when DDL went into his Bill the Butcher mode, people on set were scared of him.

Just a pity the film was a bit crap. It could have been good. It could have been an animal film... but, there was a load of kissy kissy sentimental crap thrown in. Blech.
