Whatever you expect, expect to be over the grand mark for the insurance, I'm 19 with just under 3 years no claims and paying over a grand tpft, I'm looking for new insurance for next month, and noticed it dropped a lot for me as I turn 20, I'm getting quotes for £400 tpft, and for comprehensive with NO excess for £750 which i think I'll be going for.. it ain't easy being this young having a bike, they will get as much as they want from you, and there is little you can do about it...

As for the bike, there's always a few floating in the for sale section. Its the best time of year to buy, as its difficult to sell this time of year, so u could pick up a bargain.

Congrats! :)

Don't be in a rush to buy the first bike that takes your fancy. So go round the bike shops in Glasgow and further afield to get a "bigger picture" on quality and price. Ride-on, Mickey Oates, Devines, MCS etc.

A2 is 33bhp? Ask the sales staff about restrictor kits. Some bikes may already have them fitted giving you a saving.

Have a look at Bike Trader on the web. Refine your search to national. Bikes are generally cheaper "dan sarf" ( higher volume of trade) but it gives you a target to aim for up here.

Insurance is simply lots of phone calls and/or internet.

Your past the worst bit of getting that bit of paper................ now the fun starts 8)

Welcome to the forum, it's a fantastic place for info.

A) buy the bike .........presume you're meaning s/hand since you mention curvy as well. Generally regarded as the best Suzuki dealer in Scotland is Cupar M/cycles in Fife, but they are not renowned for cheap 2nd-hand bikes. I've seen frequent criticism of a dealer in Glasgow (Mick** ..........) but praise for one in Ayrshire I think..?? I'm in the east so don't know them well, but I'm sure a 'Westie' will come along with help.

Best bet would be to look for a bike on here. Take your time & someone with more experience, & don't buy the 1st one you see. (But it can work, 'cos I did! :D )

B) Get insurance

Only thing I can suggest is using the search forum on here & see if any companies specialise in insuring young riders. It's likely to hurt you that the bike will not be garaged. Anti-theft stuff may be required. Apart from that get a darn good cover for it, or it'll rust before your eyes. :smt022

PM sent too.

Ahoy!

There really is no 'best place' to buy your bike because there are great bikes lurking all over the shop. First stop is the telephone - ring round all the local dealers to see if they've got one in and then get out and look. Obviously it's more expensive to buy from a dealer but it really is that little bit safer and being as it's February and the money is burning a hole in your pocket the salesmen will love you!

For private sales: this forum, Bike Trader, MCN and eBay (if you like adventure) in that order. You'd be unlucky to get a real clunker but generally just buy the latest model your budget will stretch to.

Oh, pointy silver ones are the fastest...

i got a call this morning from cia insurance about the qoute i got last night,

they seemed really decent people not the grouchy people iv had before.

managed to get the insurance to £695 tpft which i think for 18, no ncb, license 24hours now, and parked on driveway aint bad.

Be very careful with CIA... They're not dishonest exactly, they just don't really know what they're selling sometimes, so you find stuff in the smallprint that's really important, that they forgot to mention. Very hard to get a refund out of 'em too, I had trouble even though I had them bang to rights and knew more about it than they did

Old Fart? Yes. eBike? Not quite. I'm actually with A-Quote through one of their other titles. Just went through the listings in the back of RIDE and took it from there. So far, so good but I've had no need to claim thankfully. That's when you really find out how good an insurer is.

Cheers,

In fife so nearby.

ScottishRawker

I am looking to spend around £2k maybe more if the bike is worth it and in good condition, If its more towards the 3k mark then will take me bit longer before i can get it.

as will be wanting to put data tool system 3 in it cause it lowers my insurance premium by ALOT and also need to get it restricted.

A K5 is either a 05 or 55...I think...unless a damaged repairable...no way you can get one for £2K...KWAK ZZR on this forum was selling his damaged repaired K3 for about that.

I can sell you my Black k5 for under £3k FSH and proper run-in and all that.

Faired...and in Scotland too!!!!..never crashed and smashed....never stolen...

ScottishRawker

Oooh i love the black pointys :D

sounds like a good deal, will discuss it with my dad (he will be lending me a bit of cash aswell as buying my 125 off me)

pardon my retardedness but what does FSH mean?

"ask and feel like an idiot for a day, never ask and feel like an idiot forever!"

I'm waiting for Spring to go on a more wider audience type thing...selling a bike in winter is a baaaaaaaad idea......the 2nd hand price is far lower than I expected and so keeping it for another year may have to do. I have already lost what I'm going to lose.

Make your mind up man!

So what are you getting instead? A CBR600 presumably :p

See Northwind for bikes - he's enough curvy spare parts in his cramped garage to build an SV!!! Don't know if he's got a spare frame though:confused:
