Kinross Services 11:30am for a 12 (sharp) depart to St Andrews

Westies. I assume will meet at HG at 10AM, Great Western Rd

Easties. tend to meet at Maybury services at (time to be advised by easties)

Inbetweenies. ma hoose leave 11:00, come early if you want a roll on sausage :chef:

Usually entails a leisurely meandering run to cupar for a quick drool then a blast to st andrews, You can expect to be home well before 4pm for those that need permission slips.

So come on peeps, get your names down, think we had 16 in November so we should try and beat that.

My Bikes service is fast coming up, I'll see if I can get it to coincide it with that at Cupar, and borrow a bike to St Andrews. but yeah, none the less I should be there!

Absolutely probably.

SV due to go to cupar 1st sat in march, 200 miles off my 11k the noo, with 2 1/2 wks of commuting left..... don't fancy my chances of being able to change the habit off a lifetime and actually get a bike in near its correct service interval.

If its nice and the salts not too bad (setting up my "********" excuse nicely there  8) ) I may give the Gsex a run out. Don't worry twinners, I'll pull a couple of plug-caps!

I'll be there.

Jim, are we leaving HG at 10 in a sort of 9.30 for 10 type way or arriving at 10 for a whenever depart?

jimmy4237
07-02-07, 11:02 PM
This time I won't be leaving the south of Glasgow at 11am and arrive at 12pm at Kinross services like the last time - was almost caught by the federalies on the Kwak..... will see what the weather's like on the day in question and might make an appearance.

Still have two new tyres on the Kwak to try and break in first but the roads are totally s**** just now with ice and salt. Almost lost the new cage on a icy corner tonight on a roundabout. A 27mpg 2.0litre 16v petrol isnae the best thing on icy roads right now (The Ford ESP traction control is kicking in whenever I touch the throttle...) never mind ventruring out on a 144bhp Kawasaki.....

yeah, mostly ,however the ecosse runs are usually 'anything goes 'sv's,ninjas'cbrs, all sorts really ,so just look for a crowd of bikes about 11.30-12 at kinross services ,but its easy just look for a bunch of social misfits and youre sorted:grin:

Same route as last run?

jimmy4237
15-02-07, 10:27 PM
Don't see why not - that route was good. Might have a pal coming along with a 1200 ZRX. Showed him the camcorder tape and wants to see how we ride our bikes:smt020 He'll get a fright.....:smt104

Stuartyboy - I'll give you the files on the day so you can stick them onto a more reliable server that's actually kept switched on!!!

-Ralph-
15-02-07, 11:03 PM
Hmm, I found that route frustrating. I ended up getting ****ed off, overtaking everybody, and wringing the SV for every one of it's 70 horses for the rest of the ride with a black cloud inside my lid. Felt better by the time we got to St Andrews though 'cos the road from Cupar onwards is good. Must have been a wrong side of the bed morning 'cos thinking about the route now its actually got some OK bits. Whatever we do can we avoid any pheasant throwing Teuchters?

Tiger 55
19-02-07, 10:25 AM
Whatever we do can we avoid any pheasant throwing Teuchters?
The word your looking for is cheuchter
TEUCHTER, n. A term of disparagement or contempt used in Central Scotland for a Highlander, esp. one speaking Gaelic, or anyone from the North, an uncouth, countrified person, Add variants cheuchter, chuchter, choochter

Don't lets get started on this again!

Looking at the forecast and good old mother nature's looking after us again, moderate rain 5DegC and 10-20mph winds forecast for sunday, personally I dont trust forecasts, any anorexic bimbo can do it now, bring back Michael Fish.

Sunday forecast
Starting cool and overcast temp rising sharply once geared up, cooling again when underway, wind increasing rapidly to 50 / 60 with gusts of 100+mph light rain with intermittent dry lines available

Gathering thunder again leading to high winds followed by a period of calm and a cold front

STRAMASHER

Not going to make sunday I am afraid:(, was looking forward to hoolie-ing
through StAndrews again and some old course desecration!!!!:D

(so the weather will be plenty dry no doubt!:) )

Have a good one and stay sunnyside up y'all!

I might not be able to make this now. My wife had to go into hospital today and shes expected to come out Sunday afternoon. If she stays in longer I'll be there if not I'll need to be at home for her. I can't confirm either way at the moment so if I'm not at Kinross services by 12 don't wait for me.

No not a one off - we'll hit rideout attendance of high teens or possibly low twenties at least once or twice during the summer. The numbers are to be expected 'cos its February.

Its just the real hard bikers that do February runs! :-) :-) :-)

Kilted Ginger is not well and won't be able to make it tomorrow. Please can we abandon his place as a meeting point and inbetweenies go HG in Glasgow or Maybury in Edinburgh, or go direct to Kinross for 11:30 for 12 departure. Thanks everybody.

Was not a bad day. A bit driech in places, and On yer Bike turned up in trainers, jeans, a t-shirt and a leather jacket!!! No neckie, no leathers or waterproofs or even bike boots.... will attach photo for proof.... Bet he was cold coming down the road. I was down the A9 with full goretex gear on never mind jeans and a t-shirt!!

Five of us after a break up to Dundee and Dunkeld. The road up there was a bit slippy in places for the IL4 boys.. Stuarty had a wee moment or two as did I.

I did have my leather bike jacket on, so wasn't technicaly in just jeans and t-shirt.

but I was a lot warmer than all u lot coming down the A9, so Ha :p, although this was partly due to the fact that I was sitting in a very warm & comfortable recovery truck after my sv gave up on me! :smt093

Dear oh dear.

Come on OYB- What did Quedos say to you in the pub after the carting on that frosty night?:smt079 One day it's gonna be too late to find out the merits of all the gear you're keeping good at home.[-X It IS your choice in the end, but none of us want to see you in a bad way. Have you read Big Apes "Always wear yer ferkin leather" thread?

Glad everythings OK though- sounded for a bit like you'd had an off. I'm sure the bike'll be back in action pretty sharpish.

Take care,

Garry;)

on yer bike
25-02-07, 10:25 PM
Not an off, no, my bike just went bang, then decided to run on 1 cylinder, and is now refusing to fire at all.

Yeah I've read it, I just wasn't thinking this morning, but will take more care in future.

Good day. Like you say bit slippy. These SVs obviously coped better in the wet due the lack of involement ;) Seriously though feckin rear end was a bit lively to say the least today  Next wet run I'll be borrowing a twin

So onyer...what was the prognosis on yer bike - [pun intended]

on yer bike
25-02-07, 10:31 PM
dunno, nothing on screen, just the bang, then strange noises running 1 cylinder down, got it on the truck and then the engine wouldn't fire up at all :smt102

Good run, a bit wet in places but mainly clean, not TOO much diesel or slurry about. On an involving lightweight SV ;) where you can feel what your tyres are doing and ride on through the odd spin drift or wiggle, good fun was had!

OYB lets us know the prognosis on the bike. No bother to hang on with you for the AA, good to get a pint and a chat anyway. I was in the same boat just recently and it's not pleasant sitting there on your own for two hours watching every vehicle to see if if its an AA van.

Tiger, can you post up the pics from your phone?

Highlights and grainy pictures...

Jimmy doing a burnout in the car park at Kinross, thus becoming the only person to get some heat in a tyre all day.

Cop paranoia at Cupar causing Jimmy's ZRX mate Tommy to disconnect the camera equipment, take the tape out and go home!

Jim also bailing out at Cupar due to the WSB noises coming from what was left of his exhaust. Rorty!

More cop paranoia outside the ice cream shack. As you can see, OYB's front wheel is parked in a disabled bay...

Don't know what happened after me, Ralph and Stuartyboy left that car park. Turned left, over the bridge and that was the last I saw of anybody! Really must pay more attention to the plan.

I never even saw a petrol station! I was on the A9 after about 100 yards!

Oh well, no harm done. Good of you to wait with On Yer, albeit while having that beer you wanted...

Also thanks again for waiting for me at least 3 times between Kinross and Cupar. Felt like I was hanging on to tail lights all day, it was either that or be a one man 'slow' group. Having said that I was filing my nails on the B road to Dunkeld while Stuartyboy got squirrely (or should I say involved) in front and Jimmy vanished from behind. God bless the V Twin!!

The licence is £12,000 and then £50 every time you post.

What? That sort of creativity doesn't come cheap you know. And then there's the little wire to connect the phone to the computer, the overheads are endless.

(OYB, this guy's got 748 money, bump the price...)

Nope! No light to see.

Guys guys guys - I didn't dislike my SV at all.

Tiger...I don't have a ducati (yet). Maybe I should have bought one rather than the sv - who knows?

Thought you guys would be more interested in how the 748 was....

,...well I'll tell you anyway. Quality of finish might not be as nice as the sv(orangepeel paintwork) but it beats it hands down as a riding machine. Its a bit uncomfy after a while BUT as smooth as butter round town and out on the twisties. You can actually use 1st, 2nd & 3rd without clutching round corners (unlike the sv - infact it's very IL4 like in town) There's adjustment for just about every control on the bike. Shifting is nice. Back brake...you'd be as well using the heel of your boots.

Gutless below 5k but that's a good thing for round town IMO. There's none of the snatchy throttle like on the SV either - kinder on my wrists. 6k - something very nice happens. BUT the perception of speed seems much less tha say the cbr or sv. Straight line acceleration isn't that exciting to be honest.

Round the bends - very deceiving and again doesn't "feel" that fast - until you look down. The real excitement for me was the lean angles - really crazy. Scraped my toe sliders 3 times (which is as many times as I did all last year on the road).

Colin - I'd avoid the 748 - it might be a bit much like a cbr for your tastes ;)

The licence is £12,000 and then £50 every time you post.

What? That sort of creativity doesn't come cheap you know. And then there's the little wire to connect the phone to the computer, the overheads are endless.

(OYB, this guy's got 748 money, bump the price...)

Ah but I retain copyright as the subject. It was craetivity that allowed you to take the picture ;)

No I don't have 748 money - just have to write off something against tax :)

You can actually use 1st, 2nd & 3rd without clutching round corners (unlike the sv)

Say what? :)

You know exactly what I mean Northy...it was just phrased badly...

This isn't aimed at you Northy but why do I feel like because I now have a cbr everyone has to pick holes in everything I write?
I had an sv - now I've got a cbr. Beginning to think twice about posting anything now.

I reckon you must have had something wrong with the thottle on your SV! Anybody else agree?

You were talking on Sunday about forks diving and jumping coming on and off the "snatchy" throttle and having to use the clutch to smooth it out. Honestly, no kidding now, that doesn't ring a bell, hence Northwinds confusion.

I only use the clutch in 1st gear really slow manueuvres like a right turn into a side street or a U-Turn. A jumpy throttle is a bit of an SV characteristic, but only if you've come straight off a different bike and once you get accustomed to it, roll on/off gently, etc, (takes about 100 miles!) you shouldn't have been having those kind of problems. Compared to some FI bikes fuelling on the pointy SV is pretty good.

Pity its gone 'cos I wouldn't have minded riding it to find out if it felt normal. Maybe thats why you were getting sore wrists! From what you were saying about the doctor videoing you while the SV dived jumped around it doesn't sound right. Have you still got the video?

Take it your not planning to buy a 748 then, you don't sound all that enthusiastic.

Colin - I'd avoid the 748 - it might be a bit much like a cbr for your tastes

I'd only buy a Ducati if I could afford a second bike for dry miles only, and then it'd be a 916 or 996. An older RSV Mille R or a newer Factory however, now thats a different prospect! Think I'd still buy a old hack as well though and keep the 'Prilia dry and tidy!

I've actually got no idea, that's why I asked... I've not clutched the SV round corners since the first time I rode it. Apart from u-turns, but that's a bit different.

Some people are overdoing the whole "traitor" thing I reckon... I'm sure it's meant in good fun, but it'd bug me too  But here, not being funny but you and Jimmy actually started it this time :D

That'd be me then! Don't worry, got bored of it now! CBR jokes are over, everyone knows its a good bike, most Honda's are. I actually secretly want ride on it for nostalgia's sake. What sorry? No.. I never said anything like that!

Beginning to think twice about posting anything now.

Nah, don't get huffy mate, we'd miss you reallly :D . I honestly don't think Northys picking holes and I'm not taking the ****, I'm being serious for once.

Snatchy throttle honestly doesn't ring a bell, and we don't disbelieve that yours was like that, which is why I reckon yours wasn't right.

OK....should have read "unlike MY sv". I already said it was phrased badly.

"you don't sound all that enthusiastic" quite the opposite"

Compared to the SV I loved it. It was a lot smoother than I thought it would be. I thought I got that accross.

"But here, not being funny but you and Jimmy actually started it this time "

Started what? I originally posted a pc of my new bike because I was dead chuffed. I dont think I started anything or meant to antagonise anyone at all.

I think it's unfair to say Jimmy started anything - at all - he didn't - and I don't understand where you got that. This is emphasises my point - things picked out and it's frustrating.

It's poor form when conversations get turned into a them and us simply because I changed my bike. feel like an outcast. If you were there on sunday you would have heard my reasons, expressions, tone of voice etc.etc...

I came on here for to meet bikers, go on rideouts, learn and share experiences etc. I didn't come on here to defend everything I say - which is all I seem to be doing recently.

I said to Tiger on Sunday when I'm serious you'll know because I don't hold back.

I just cannae feckin win...

Started the IL4 vs V-twin jokes. I'm not saying anyone started some aggro thing here, because I still don't see any! I'm not asking you to defend anything you said either mate, I just asked you a question, because I was interested to hear the answer- I'm still not sure if I misunderstood what you were describing, or if you were describing something I never experienced with the SV, and I'm curious is all.

The road up there was a bit slippy in places for the IL4 boys..

Was what started the banter. Then you:

These SVs obviously coped better in the wet due the lack of involement ;)

Can't win? I was on your side here mate! Seems like it's me having to defend what I said not you, but none of it was meant to get at you, and I'm kind of at a loss as to how it came across like that, but if it did then I'm sorry- not my intent. Dead easy for things to get taken out of context in text...

If you want, we can get into the Suzuki reliability jokes for a bit?

Sleep on it mate. Have a read of todays posts over again in the morning when your not ****ed off and hopefully we'll see you back again tomorrow!

I thought you weren't blown away with the duke 'cos of the straight line acceleration, back brake, bad finish, etc. I wouldn't by a bike if I had those reservations.

Any biker is welcome on here regardless of what you ride. The other guys who've no longer got SV's will tell you that. I for one am only pulling your leg and I think everyones bored with CBR bashing now anyway.

Or the Suzuki finish jokes?? :smt013 Noticed my forks starting to pit and rust just below the clip on's today and I'm not impressed! 9 months old! And it's not like it's been abandoned outside either. Sometimes goes a week without a clean 'cos I don't currently have an outside tap (the old one is now inside my new conservatory), but it's dry, garaged, cleaned properly at least once a week, and well WD40'd afterwards.

Is there any kind of anti-perforation warranty? I guess this need a new post doesn't it.

:o thought only women suffered from pms. this is a nice forum with everyone up for a laugh. loads of people have moved on from the SV where as others have kept theirs. i had mine 5 years and would still have it but i got the chance of a raptor and i cannot pass up on riding a bike that i can reach the ground on. everyone is different and tastes are different. comeon stuarty boy you are usually up for a laugh. chill mate

. Its a bit uncomfy after a while BUT as smooth as butter round town and out on the twisties. You can actually use 1st, 2nd & 3rd without clutching round corners (unlike the sv - infact it's very IL4 like in town)

stuartyboy, not sure if we've met,- so I obviously don't have any axe to grind........I didn't know what you meant by that either.

I found like Northy that very tight turns would need a little clutch (feathering I think is the term) but 2nd gear max. Did you ever get the carbs synchronised?

The 748 felt as smooth as an IL4......WOW.........my 1000DS definitely doesn't.

Guys, I work with Stuart. Just to let you know, his Dad's seriously ill in hospital and he's got a lot on his mind. He's a genuinely decent guy so its a bit out of character if he's taking things to heart.
