Amazingly enough not as much as you think, outside of the English tourist areas of Amsterdam...

As for the chips, found a new flavour... patatje oorlog (Chips at war) \. Comes with Mayo and penut sate source. And onions. 'Tis quite nice actually, but there still not real chips!
