The only way I'll go to the bike show is if I can too get a free ticket or day pass. It's a total rip off for what it is - trade stands galore and rip off crap food. Bring a flask, own food and a free ticket to make it worthwhile.

Agh!

Opening MotoGP ,Qatar so its a Saturday race! on Bike show weekend + Old Firm:-# game on Sunday.

I hate being rushed round the show especially when i need to pick stuff up!

When this happened at NEC they have the giant screens and a large area left for watching the racing in a great atmosphere and with liked minded souls ( Pedrosa fans excluded [-( :D )

Not getting my hopes up for Ingileston...............

.....on the other hand will it be quieter Sunday with the big game being on? Decisions, decisions......

Main thing is NO SNOW!

Another two (Poss 3) for Sunday. Abs is off to Moffat on Saturday and Sunday generally suits better for a lazy day of sightseeing.

Getting in and out will be easier by bike than by car and there will be facilities for leaving helmets and other gear. Parking is closer unless you get there pretty early and get the car right up at the top end. Take a wee something flat to put under your side stand just in case you have to park somewhere soft and wet. For you though theres always the option of the Ingleston/Ratho bus.

Which day I go will depend on the weather forecast. I need dry days for working outside my house at the moment.

Well... How are you with mud? :) The Ingliston car park's really not made with bikes in mind, it's all grass and gravel, but they usually use some of the access roads for bike parking. If you listen to the car par stewards, they'll usually send you to the good bike parking by the shortest route, which means lots of offroading... But it's not hard to get to a good space.

Was planning to go through on saturday morn with my eldest on the bike....
thought about it some more then thought I'd watch the Moto GP before going. Was decided on that.. then someone phoned about my bike, decided he's going to come over from the Isle of Arran :o and see my SV on sat sometime, so it looks like it's gonna be sunday now.

Weather report was fine. If you had just come down the road a couple of miles you would have been OK. It stayed cloudy but dry at the bike show. ;)

is the show any good is it worth 15 quid???

10-03-07, 06:42 PM
I got there about 2.15  Slept in, again. After failing to meet almost all the Ecosse folks, I randomly bumped into Essex boy Halonic in the car park, who'd ridden all the way with a pillion on a Speed Triple. Loons, the pair of them :)

I'd say it was OK. I only did the indoors stuff. If you've got stuff you need, then the shopping makes it worthwhile, I saved more on my first couple of buys than the ticket cost, put it that way. Never got to the outside stuff, the stunt show etc- if it stays dry tomorrow I might go back and do some of that.

Big hand for Planet Knox... I wanted new hip armour, as my old sets are both a little compressed. They didn't have any, but they offered me the show discount for mail order. All good... Then I mentioned that I've lost the bag for my Stowaway back protector. Quick as a flash, they snipped one off one on display, and gave it to me. Top marks.

Then I betrayed them by buying T-Pro Forcefield armour  Obviously you've got the usual rubbish stalls, but there's enough good ones to keep it interesting.

As far as new bikes... Well, they've got all the new BMWs, the K7 GSXR (which just looks like every other GSXR but with an extra dustbin), Ducati brought a Hypermotard and a pair of 1098s. Personally I don't see a lot of point to the new bike stands, since you can just go to a dealership and actually get a go on them instead of taking a photo... But if you like the new bikes, new bikes there are.

Never saw the outside stuff. I know Marc Gillespie's in the stunt show, and Kevin Carmichael, so that's good- Marc for the messy stuff, Kevin for the technical stuff.

But, if you didn't like it in previous years you won't this year, it's more of the same.

:smt087 Do I have to :-D

I was wearing my old Furygan leather jacket today, and I saw a stall selling the textile ones, thought I'd have a look... So I popped my old one on the floor, and tried on the new ones. Put my old one back on and as I was walking away, down comes a hand on my shoulder... "Where do you think you're going, pal?" They had the exact same jacket on sale, and he thought I was doing a runner with one  Even though mine's covered in fossilised dead flies :smt090

Well i was on the Suzi stand about 2.15pm but i couldnt work out who was who (There was about 40 people on the stand)

As far as the show goes, i didnt think it was as good as last year, lots of cheap stall and a few expensive ones. Didnt see many decent offers but i guess it depends on what you're looking for.

Surprised Honda werent there at all this year.

10-03-07, 11:35 PM
I was standing there wearing my SV650.org t-shirt :)

But that's a fair point. Tomorrow- if possible by the SV on the Suzuki stand? There's only one and it's tucked up the back so nobody will see it :smt099

No Kevin Carmicheal. Gutted. Some fella doing dull stuff in a car instead.Big wow. MG was ok, too quiet,an standard tricks...... being loud adds to the thrill. Freestyle dudes did about 6 jumps then went back into their van. Bit of supermoto "racing" which always sounds good. Maybe we have been spoiled in the past with Carmicheal,Jones,Farrias,Purple Helmets. :(

Met Mr Austin Vince of Mondo Enduro/Terra Circa fame. They have a big fat book out of their diaries from the first trip, so bought and signed so he gets his 18p in royalties. Personable fellow.Quite happy to gas away for 15mins.Legend:cool:

Missed the Triumph stand.Missed Honda:(

Got dragged away from spending £60 on some Nankai gloves. Absolute bargain too:(

1098 does not look any better in the flesh, 883R H-D does #-o (my secret is out!),SuperDuke i love you.

MG1200sport is an absolute beast, Tuono has retina burning colours, ZZR14 is sumptuous for two.

No Suzi BurgerKing, no Desmoserdeechi. No blacked out 2007Mt01's. :smt102 Its slack.

Could not find the kit we were looking for but did see lots of very good deals on quality helmets and leathers.

Is it worth it?

'Course it is, even if it does feel like "the scraps" :smt045 ;)

11-03-07, 02:59 PM
It's not actually much worse than the Excel show, actually feels bigger :D

I know Marc Gillespie was planning a lot of duo stuff with Kevin Carmichael, they've done a lot of training together in the past (Marc used to be a customer of mine, lot of bank corruption went on there ;) ) so that might have hit his show. He's more a hard worker than a wild talent like most of the guys you mentioned, so he doesn't improv like some will... But not bad to watch.

Didn't go today, I wanted to do the outdoorsy stuff so the weather put me off.

Had a quick nosey around the smaller of the two halls with Quedos after arriving and headed over to the Suzi stand for 2pm.

Instantly spotted prawns' red hair over the screen of a GSXR and popped over to say "HI". Whilst chatting, Suicide sprung up with his cool new Rossi hairdo - just darken it up a bit and pop on the shades. Makes me wish I'd taken a photo now- could have done exactly that and added in the earings!:)

Anyway, nice to see you all again. Managed to get a Pyramid Fenda Extenda for the show price (delivered) since they were sold out since Saturday. Now there's a surprise. Had been meaning to buy one for ages, but was avoiding the postage charges. Also dipped into the bank and signed up for IAM at a massive £20 reduction- top result:cool: That's justified the entry price then.

Incidentally, saw the Bandit & SV Owners club so decided to check it out. Plenty of tricked up Bandits including the becks livery, however only 1 SV on there, a k3 naked and aside from a can it was bog standard which i thought didnt do the SV justice at all.

And with the SV that colour on the Suzi stand, i wouldnt imagine they would have sold many. Even i thought it was boring looking at it.

Funny, I said the same thing at the Kelso show... The guy I spoke to there said they hadn't found any SVs good enough to be on show. His was though, a bog-standard scabby 2000 Bandit 600 with a pair of bates headlights and some anodised levers :D So the bar has been set pretty damn high.

"Scottish stunt rider Kevin Carmicheal has vowed he will never repeat the 70mph stunt that left him with severe concussion and a broken bone in his lower back.
Carmicheal was performing a radical new trick on a Daytona675 on Saturday (at Scottish Bike Show)where he deliberately gets the bike into a tankslapper and then allows the rear wheel to fishtail behind. The bike went out of control and threw him over the handlebars. He landed on his head." MCN

Anyone remember when he did the stunt show and then onto the European rounds with his broken leg in a stookie?

Legend.

Some great footage on "you tube" with him doing some high speed, super aggressive stuff on a speed triple a foot away from the crowd, and abusing a RocketIII.

Still gutted. Mibee next year.

Went to the show on Saturday - with Beaniebike and 2 eight year olds in tow (my son and his pal).

Thought the show was a bit naff this year - stunts were OK (kept the lads entertained), but there seemed to be a distinct lack of bargains to offset the £12 tocket.....

Wish I'd got to the IAM stand, planning (after much badgering from Beaniebike) to go learn more about biking this year....a £20 sweetener would have made up for the bland show....... Missed the MotoGP and the Rugby for this....

Only good thing was just how comfy I found the new GSXR750.......oooh, that seems nice:smt103
