View Full Version : This will Mess With Your Head.
Been posted before but for those who havent seen it.
3 men go into a motel. The man behind the desk said the room is $30, so
each man paid $10 and went to the room.
A while later the man behind the desk realized the room was only $25, so he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys' room with $5. On the way the bellboy couldn't figure out how to split $5 evenly between 3 men, so he gave each man a $1 and kept the other $2 for himself.
This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which is a total of $27, add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29. Where is the other dollar?
does george best have it?

There has to be a way to PROFIT from this wierdness.......
Probably involved the internet.......
It all to do with the way we count up and down
If you try the same thing using actual object eg paperclips to represent each pound you will see what I mean

Men have £3
Bellboy has £2
Hotel has £25.
It all adds up. You're not balancing it properly.
Or to put it another way, the £2 is already accounted for in the 3 x £9 that the men have paid, the remaining £3 is in the men's pockets.
its probaly down the back of the sofa

No, that don't work ...... I only have 8 paperclips.
Lets be sensible now.
What motel / hotel would take a currency of paperclips?
Where can I find one?

Yep......
Hold out your hands and count your fingers and thumbs downwards from 10.
So, on the first hand you go..............10, 9, 8, 7, 6. Than add on the 5 from the other hand and you have 11 :D

A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys.
How can this be possible?

Did I spoil it by explaining how it works?
Men have £3
Bellboy has £2
Hotel has £25.
It all adds up. You're not balancing it properly.
Or to put it another way, the £2 is already accounted for in the 3 x £9 that the men have paid, the remaining £3 is in the men's pockets.
Viney made more sense than you.
Or to put it another way I had it worked out til you tried to mess with my head.

I know something similar with a sultan and horses and three sons and he leaves in his will different fractions of his 17 horses to each son.. which doeant work out til they go o see the wise man- he lends them a orse- the frations then work out and they all have their horses and the wise man has his left over !!!>. maths is fun !!!
