He bought a secondhand R6 which was in good nick. He accidently dropped it in his garage whilst moving it out of the way to get his father's car out. The throttle side clip-on snapped in two. He bought a replacement from ebay. I help him remove the throttle assembly, end weight, switch and grip from the old to refit on the purchased one. His father told me he'll spray some new paint on the purchased item as it had some scratches from having its rubber removed. Chris asked my brother to ride pillion so he could fix his bike later, it was a nice sunny day pity to loose time in a garage. So went out Saturday and spent the day having fun riding all around this tiny island we live in. Yesterday I went out for a ride with some friends and saw his bike at a shopping mall. I looked around for him but couldn't find him. It was 2pm and we had plans to meet my parents at 3pm so my wife told me to go home as we hadn't eaten yet. I got a call at 3pm. He died at 2:15pm just a block away from home. I can't believe this. He was a very good bloke, a careful rider and very intelligent. He was an AirMalta commercial airplane pilot.

News cutting:
Man dies after bike crash
A motorcyclist died tragically yesterday after smashing into a tree in Rabat yesterday afternoon.
In a statement, the police said that the accident took place at about 2:15pm when the 31-year-old lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a tree.
A paramedic crew rushed to the scene and rushed him to St Luke’s hospital where he lost his life some time later.
Duty magistrate Giovanni Grixti appointed a number of experts to assist in an onsite inquiry. The police are also investigating.

We all know the risks but it is the love of riding that we take them for and I hope that you and his family and friends are able to find some comfort in the fact that he was doing something he loved.

Thanks again. All you guys have been very supportive. This has been a huge blow especially for my brother who sort of showed off a little when riding with him so he feels that somehow he's part of the blame. Surely it's not as Chris died purely from some freak circumstances. The tree he smashed into was only 4 metres away from the 90 degree corner he just turned. I'm sure he was riding slow as the bike suffered mostly fairing damaged and the forks are not even bent. It seems the bike threw him off and he hit the tree himself. God knows what happened. I just passed the site on my way to work this morning and I could not stop crying.

My friends did a charity run last Saturday and ended up near the tree were Chris took his last breaths in this world. Sadly I got to know late about the run and was already at work by then. It was hard to take leave as we've got to fill a working compliment due to safety issues were I work which rendered short notice leave impossible. I would have liked to go. At least Simon, my brother could and said the event was very moving. Even the weather sort of was helping to give the whole experience the 'right' mood. Sometimes its impossible not to think that there is something bigger than ourselves out there that orchestrates things.

His dad showed up at the scene and talked to everyone there. He was very nice to all and did not blame anyone. He asked those who were with him at the time if his son had maybe done some drinking, but as we all normally do around here he only drank two capucchinos that day and had some rolls. They then said some prayer by the tree and all made their best efforts to leave as silent as their bikes would allow.

you don't have to be there to be giving someone thought.

I am glad people were able to show respects (I am sure if you friend could here the quiet roar of bikes at his spot he would smile)

Take care bud, and hang in there, please keep writing to us lot if it helps. Sometimes you can write things better then you can say them, especially to strangers (kind of ;) )

We lost a friend 2 years ago on his bike locally.... we ride past his spot reqularly, it never gets easy, but it does somehow have a peacefulness, and a connection with him, more so then his grave if that makes any sense.

Good luck mate

I can totally relate to this Tomcat. This is exactly what I'm feeling passing from the spot. 'peacefulness, connection'. Your words are like a picture of my feelings exactly.
