Just bought myself an SV650 today, pick her up next saturday. T Reg Naked Model 12000miles FSH with a few trick bits on it.
The names Col and I am a plant hire manager & CBT Instructor at the weekend. I ride about 300 miles a week, whatever the weather (except snow).
What is the finish on these SV's like? will it be ok in the good old English winter.

Welcome to the madhouse Col (ha - got in first)

Finish on the SV is up/down to the usual suzuki standard.

Curvy forks have a habit of pitting, however keep the salt of in the winter and it should be ok

Hiya, good choice - T Reg, no dodgy plastic bits or contortionist clip ons ;) :D

Ive only rode through one winter so cant comment really on how the finish bears up, mine's still excellent though.

Big thanks for the welcome. I live in Crewe, cheshire and work in Whitchurch Shropshire.
Sounds like I am going to have to buy myself a lot of cleaning products ;).
Been riding for 20 odd years now & when the SV came out it was a bike I'd always wanted. At long last, with the kids grown up I am starting to enjoy my life on my own, had a little money (for the first time in years) I thought I would give one a try.

ah, there are some nice biking roads round Shropshire way! :D welcome to the site anyway

oh and if you're concerned about corrosion try using something like WD40 or ACF50 to coat down pipes, etc

Keep the bike clean (rinse of all the road salt and other crap with lots of water etc etc) and spray on WD40 on some exposed moving parts (shock, stanchions etc) and it'll keep tip-top. Once a year just give it a good seeing to; then your SV will last a life time!

Kwakzzr has the cleanest bikes I've ever seen

Welcome to the .org btw!

Welcome Col.

If possible wash the bike down if you'e been riding on salty roads. This helps no end. Use cold water as well as it will not steam and settle on other colder parts of the bike. (salt dissolves in about the same amount and time in hot or cold water)

Other bits like the chain adjusters, footrest hanger mountings and other cycle parts would benefit from a fime smear of grease (not on the brakes obviousely). For winter get a can of ACF 50 and that will keep most of the nasties at bay, a bit late to do that for this winter I guess but if you are doing that milage through March which can be very cold it might be an option.

Owdoo ahh Kid !!

Anyway if you are new to the SV I would recommend a fender extender if it hasnt already got one. If you do a quick search on this forum you will find that the only real fault (out the box) on the SV is that in heavy rain water can get down the front plug causing a misfire. This can be quite scary mid corner:shaking: and the fender extender solves it and all for only £18 ish.
