Almost the same. Had to leave school after my O levels to find a job as my parents had split up and my mother was struggling.:(
My son, however, has a degree in Sports Science from Newport Uni.:)

oh course, he took me for Maths. but What about Killer Kerr and Idris Yeo, But I can't remember the name of the guy he did Thermodynamics and fluids, annoying as that was my best subject there

Left school mid-way through my A Levels 'cos I wasn't doing any work !! Didn't really have the 'work ethic' back then
The 3 years I'd have spent at Uni I in fact spent working for a sailing charter company & racing rich men's sailboats as fast as possible around Florida, the Bahamas & Caribbean

I was there 78-81. Yes - Viv Yeo was a proper charecter. Always thought his head was about to explode. did you also go through the training centre?
I worked at Leyland till 93, mostly on vehcile testing at the Technical Centre and in engine research.
Small world innit ?

Even smaller, I was also at the tech centre. I was working in electrohydaulics for Henry Noteman at the time the tech centre opened and had to stay up at Spurrier works looking after the old rigs and the Merlin House until we could get them the rigs and cooling test operational at the Tech Centre. I then worked on Durability and Structual test for Eric Arnold. You had better PM me your real name/history as we must have obviously known each other. I can't remember many of the guys on Vehicle test. John Wrennel moved off to work on IT. Phil Martlew worked with me and then went to vehicle test. I worked with people like Kevin Gough, Wigan Bill, Dave knight. But to be honest it is that long ago I probably forgot most
Definately small world. As for Yeo. "Bloody technicians, give me monkeys"
I left Leyland in 84. Started as a spotty apprentice in the training centre in 76

Believe it or not I worked for Henry in the Noise & Vibration lab for a while, but then he moved to personnel (he now works for a recruitment agency) and Mike Barnes took the department over. In 91-93 I was Senior Engineer for N&V and Goughy was Senior Engineer for structural test. Dave Bibby and Jim Bradshaw worked for me in my group. Goughy's still there, as is Dave Bibby.
Just realised this thread is being seriously hijacked, so I'll PM you.
Cheers Keith

Uni. Short for university. Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow, those sorts of places. If Sarah had wanted to know where you wandered the papier mache corridors of you local polytechnic then I'm sure that's what she would have asked.

I went out to work soon as I left school. What with my dear old Ma dropping dead and my father having long since ****ed off the opportunities to spend 4 years studying 18th Century french poetry seemed somewhat limited...

Glamorgan. I have a 1st class honours degree in computing from there, I have also finished a masters I'm doing part time (on course for a distinction) there in an open university format.
I can say quite honestly, that it's one of the best for computing in the country (many of my clients are universities, so I see a fair few). Very good staff and superb facilities. It's only the low entry requirements (and subsequently, large number of rather dim students) that really hold the place back IMO. The only reason I wouldn't do my doctorate there (I may do one full time in 3-5 years time) is the lack of prestige associated with the place. It seems a shame that people seem to fail to recognise that the course they did is what makes a university graduate, not the reputation of the place as a whole. For this reason, I will probably try one of the oxford colleges for my doctorate.

:D
We (small software company) had a sales rep in from an IT training company the other day.
Rep: '...and we are actually a fully owned subsidiary of Thames Valley university...'
Our MD: 'Ohh! Slough Tech? I did my A levels there.'
Rep:
Nottingham (the University, not the old Poly - I'm putting this 'cos i always get asked it)- had a fabulous time, would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Got kicked out of school at 17 because I was basically extracting the urine.
