Hi All.

I finally took the plunge and ordered an Abba Superbike stand. £85 including SV K3 fitting kit and delivery including the 10% discount for forum members. Ordered yesterday and it turned up today fantastic service.

Set it up tonight and tried it on the bike. All I can say is that everything I have read about these stands is true. They are quick and easy to use and do not take up much storage space. I reckon even my 11 year old son has enough strength to lift the bike using this stand.

Thats the last stand you'll ever have 2 buy...all you do is replace the fitting kits when you change bikes

Shame. NWS stands are better, they don't need fitting kits.

Or when you ride off forgetting to remove the fitting kit! #-o

But, you can buy what I bought which is the 'swingarm removale kit'... which bolts into the footpeg bolts. So it will fit any bike, and you can pull the whole backend off. :-D

He's right you know, the NWS is better, and more stable.

I've never had stability issues with the Abba or ridden off with the fitting kit still in the swingarm bolts...you have to be an idiot to do that;)

Can you get the swingarm out with an NWS/is there an accessory to allow you to do this (like the Abba)?

Also, can you get the front wheel off the ground enough to drop the forks out without any other accessories?

I'm looking at getting a stand and want to make the right decision first time.

Ebay got me my Abba stand.

Curious as to why the NWS stand is better and how it fits.

It does for some bikes, doesn't it? Including, if I understand correctly, at least one of the SVs. Definately more stable though. Abba's a little cheaper, on the other hand. Can't really go wrong with either tbh.

Not that I know of. If I wanted to get the swing arm out I'd get the bike on a regular paddock stand, then use axel stands anyway.

Both NWS and Abba stands hold the bike by the swing arm pivot - behind the C of G of the bike. Therefore, weight will be on the front wheel and there will be no getting the forks out without another tool. But, putting the bike up on either stand then using a simple car jack will work nicely for said job

It uses tapered bars (spikes, basically) that go into the holes in the swing arm, so it will fit any bike. It also has a back stop, so unlike the abba stand, you can't pull the bike backwards off the stand by accident.

I think on some SVs it can foul the brake lever if you're not careful, but they'll send you a 'fitting kit' (It's just a colar with a shoulder you slot into the right hand side swing arm pivot) for no extra. That's an exception though - It'll still work on any other bike (or has on all the others I've tried) without a fitting kit.

Their site says 10% of bikes need one. Which compares well to the 100% with Abba, mind :)

How do you remove the swingarm with a paddock stand and axle stands? Just curious here, can't figure it. You can use really tall axle stands under crash bungs, but I can't work out how you're supporting the rear.

Under the footpegs (although this may work a little better for me as I've got fixed foot rests )

You only get the 10% discount on phone orders, you must mention you are a member of the SV650 web forum.

And to all those that rate the NWS better, yes it might be a bit more stable but it's more expensive. especially when you take delivery cost into account. Also you can't use it if you need to remove the swing arm. I think I made the right choice.

I've had an Abba stand for a number of years, and I've still got all my fitting kits too. I also have the "front lift" which fits under the downpipes so both wheels can be raised.

Yeah, see, that works but compared to having it bolted into the Abba it's pretty **** :) You could equally say that you can do everything an ABBA or an NWS can do with a pile of bricks, or a stepladder and some ratchet tiedowns...

It's not a big enough advantage to the Abba to recommend it over the NWS for most folks though. But, on the other hand, the Abba's a nicer colour :)

Well I have seen the NWS used by my tyre fitter and it works well with the SV, though its always a problem on the Duke as the spikes are only just long enough. With the fitting kit I have for the Duke this is never a problem, but its all preference and what you can afford. I got mine cheap at the NEC so I was happy, and I can remove the swingarm till the cows come home.
