View Full Version : Easter Egg Run
Right we have 2 weekends to organise this so I WANT DEFINATES ONLY!![-X
Sunday 8th April Run starts at 12.30 meet as PC World Carpark at 10.30 to join the line up at 11. We will leave the car park at 11 If you are not there - tough
this need to be more joined up than it was last year as we kinda got seperated so we want to be more of a group and stay as a group.
Mandatory items are either an egg or two/ or a donation
see http://glasgoweggrun.mag-uk.org/Main.php
Dressing up optional but a lot more fun.
So lets start the list (& b4 anyone asks - my names not down as I'm not a definate as I may not have a bike)

Absolutely positively definately :) Unless it's really rainy, in which case I'll eat my egg in the garage and fix my heated grips instead. But I'm as close to being definate as I'm capable of being, what with being a big unreliable tosser.

Yep. Defo agree on that one. It was our dear chucca that made the point that we'd really ought to get in there at the Kelvin Way start point. We are mostly SVs and it'd be nice to get (and keep) as many together as possible.
A couple of shots from last years event with 8000 bikes!

That's a bit optimistic, I think we spent more time standing still than rolling last year :) Still ace, though.
Anyone willing to take a pillion! - i'm offically bikeless on that day!

I cunningly made sure I'm not insured for pillions this year, because I hate doing it  Get your excuse in first, I says...

I would give you a lift on mine, but i have never taken a pillion, let alone over such a distance...and cause of my duck like legs (i cant push the bike up a camber when on it and can only just hold it up!)
i wouldnt feel confident having to stop and take the bikes weight and u without wobbling.
Why dont you hire one from Saltires? or cupar for the day?
Eeeeeeeee! I'll be there! Quedos, I would take you but as Duckman, I've never taken pillion before and so not that confident.... Although don't think my legs are quite as short as the quacks! ;) :D
I'm heading up Loch Fyne way this Sunday if folk are out and fancy meeting?

I'm now a deffinate! got new tyres, and my work has been forced to shut for easter. (apparently sheep dont like paintballing next to their field during easter weekend :smt102 fair doos)
So where are us easties meeting, and times? I'm guessing Mabury, but I don't know how long a trip to glasgow is, I've never ventured into that place by bike, lol
Duck-man
30-03-07, 06:28 PM
Glasgow is abpout 40-45 mins (or shorter depending on speed)
Maybury sounds like a good plan we need to be in there about 12:30ish? at Kelvin way so (as a first stab and i like to be early :D)
Maybury at about 11ish (allowing for lost-ness and traffic)
What say you all???
cheers
Quack!

Can you pull in briefly to Harthill services and collect inbetweenies (me)? Won't even have to kill engines, I'll be sitting on the bike and ready to roll in the time it takes me to get my lid on!
jimmy4237
30-03-07, 09:18 PM
If you guys intend on arriving in Glasgow for 12:30pm, then that's the official start time of the run and you'll be away at the end of the queue never getting out of 1st gear..... Then you've the problem of getting a parking space at Yorkhill:mad:
That's why we're meeting at PC World Glasgow for 11am to get a decent spot in the queue.... and to do a decent run through Glasgow without too much slowing down or constant stopping.
If you can make it through for a wee bit earlier the better.
on yer bike
30-03-07, 09:43 PM
I was thinking that too, should us easties leave at 10am! (be there 9:30) and meet the westies at pc world glasgow? or is that too early for a sunday morning?
Duck-man
31-03-07, 08:36 AM

OK FOLKS THIS IS IMPORTANT
Based on the ORGs experience of last years run.........
Sunday 8th April Run starts at 12.30 meet as PC World Carpark http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&keepicon=true&lang=&pc=G38JU&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=G3%208JU&addr3=&addr1== at 10.30 to join the line up at 11. We will leave the car park at 11 If you are not there - tough

Mandatory items are either an egg or two/ or a donation
see http://glasgoweggrun.mag-uk.org/Main.php
Dressing up optional but a lot more fun.
As Jimmy says, if we leave it too late we'll end up in the overspill and it took us about 30 minutes to even get moving to join those who'd been assembled in Kelvin Way.
Please visit the official site to get your mind settled on the scale and timing of this event.
Lets keep our group together this year and lets make it as big as possible.

right so from harthill services us easties and midways should head for pc world to get there before 11!
northwind
01-04-07, 10:24 PM
PC World's dead easy to find, it's right near the SECC... I should be there so I don't mind leading, though the last 1/4 mile's a bit of a fiddle, my route there's pretty half-assed really. We should probably be figuring on leaving Maybury at 9.30, 9.45 at the latest if we're stopping at Harthill, just because it takes so long to get everyone off and on the bikes... Better to be early in Glasgow than late for this one, last time we sabotaged ourselves.
Yes it's early, but it's also worth it, just this once. Anyone we miss will be able to catch up as we'll lose at least 10 minutes at Harthill. Oh, and lest we forget, the reason we were late leaving PC World was that we were waiting for Jimmy, who never turned up! :) So good communications people! If you can't make it, tell us, if you're going to be 5 minutes late tell us... I'm on 07796896173, feel free to use it.
I'm nursing my 020 rather than fitting my new rear, the crowds do love a burnout ;)

01-04-07, 10:49 PM
I did so turn up last year Northy!!! Just happened to go with another group of pals as I stated last year. Tried to find you guys but couldn't..
I'll be there early this time to get a good spot in the chaos plus a seat in Yorkhill canteen for some grub. Then I'll be going out for a wee run somewhere. That I'll decide on the day. Then tell folk.....;) ;)
on yer bike
01-04-07, 10:59 PM
well I was gonna be there for 9am anyway, so leaving at 9:30 is fine for me!

02-04-07, 12:10 PM
Hmmm looks like fun, but may be just too far away from Aberdeen to take part in - I will be 3.5 hours (minimum) from Glasgow, so a 7am leave to get there.
So that would be a "no" from me, but I wish I could :)

according to the Mag website for SV's:
"SV Ecosse, the Scottish arm of www.sv650.org (http://www.sv650.org/) are meeting up at Finnieston Street PC WORLD car park at around 10:30am. This will be a great oppotunity to get as many SVs together as possible for the run. Oh Yes and don't worry - your other half/mate is allowed on another make or model just bring those SVs!"
so yeah, everyone be at pc world for 10:30

Does that mean you're going to do a massive burnout on the old 020?? If so then give the bike to me, as I'm getting rather good at rolling burnouts on the Kwak.... you can call me a nutter officially now.. My new 4 week old 020 rear is looking rather secondhand and frayed now. And that's less than 800 miles on it:smt077
Someone take a photo of the burnout and post it on the forum.......:) :)

I'm rubbish at rolling burnouts, I can do 'em but I look like I'm going to crash so I don't do it if I have an audience :) I only ever do it when I've got a tyre to kill, and since I use sport touring tyres that means once every 9000 miles :(
Jimmy loves his burnouts... Me, I prefer my tyres round, but every time he's been over here he's left a big black stain on the driveway, the bloody vandal.

Bear in mind folks that we can't turn into Kelvin Way due to it being a one way system to help traffic flow. We've to enter the queue via University Avenue round the back. Better leave some time to get up Gt.Western road and find our way round there too.
independentphoto
06-04-07, 09:57 PM
Good Point there Jimmy.
We'll leave PC World at 11am SHARP and turn left then left again at the lights (on filter lane). Continue along past Kelvin Way (checking it out as we pass) until we reach Church St which is just after the Western Infirmary (also easilly spotted by the pub "Gallus" on its corner). Up Church St onto Byres Rd until the main crossroads at "Tinderbox" (on left). Stay in the right lane here for a turn into University Avenue.
This will allow us a right turn into Kelvin Way- space permitting. Failing that, we use the same turning point to U-Turn and retrace our tracks back to the bottom of Church St and into the designated overspill at the transport museum (Bunhouse Rd) like last year.
Hopefully we will not only have a bigger and more cohesive presence this year, but we'll be better placed in the run too to show off the wheels. :riding:
Cheers,
Garry :albino:

Heads up on the pass guys. Bunch of us did it on Friday. We were warned by some locals not to bother (but decided to see for ourselves anyway). It was really horrible. They've been spray chipping potholes. All the gravel is on the riding lines. There's a stretch about 3-4 miles (from the loch turnoff to the jumps). Looks like a lorry has steadily been spilling gravel all the way. Some big spills in places. There's a deep flood right on the apex of a bend just past the hotel heading to calander. IF you do do it then be very careful.

Went on his scenic tour of world's worst road surfaces (I didn't know you could make potholes in roads apparently surfaced with gravel, amazing what you can do with modern technology) then came back through and had a play on some favourites over here... Sorry I didn't catch up with the rest of you, hope you didn't wait! I had absolutely no idea where we were going...
sorry andy ,,twas the first time iv ridden they roads so i didnt know how bad they were, but they were REALLY bad,i slowed down to see if a bike was following me and it was YOU ;) good ol andy eh ,right turn clive ,no sorry left ,no back to the right ,,,ahh **** it lets go this way  what was that about maps that i remember hazel saying :smt003

Sheila - just finished downloading that camera footage over the military road and the wibbly wobbly. You had your rear wheel off the deck at least three times:p :p I lost count at the number of wheelies I pulled over those crests
Shame the road surface of that wibbly wobbly is getting worse with cracks, pothole repairs and gravel scattered all over the place. Just like the Dukes is fast becoming..... the councils don't want bikers on these fun roads so they let the roads crumble to discourage bikes. You get the feeling all they want on those roads is slow moving tourists doing 20mph looking at the scenery.
I now have a massive bruise where that rock that came flying off your rear wheel hit my shin at warp 10. That's why I fell behind going over the military road. Too much pain in me leg. Had to stop for a minute or two.

Well folks- we've just got in. Had to shoot away for ****tails and a dinner appointment - oooer!
Glad to hear it was a good run. just a bit miffed that we counldn't manage the time for it. We were supposed to do the military etc yesterday but somebody got into a state of pain before we got that far.:smt022
Great event this year made better by getting into Kelvin Way in plenty of time - well done every one.
PC World was good craick too, so thanks for makin' the effort and gettin' away on time.
We're off to Aberdeen in the morning, so it'll be a day or so before I can post the pics / videos from the event from my phone.
Cheers,
Garry:cool:
