Well, random thread for you folks. Personal challenges.

What's the longest you've gone without something, and what was it? Just looking at things that are difficult to get by without, not things that are considered easy!

Yes, I know where this thread has the potential to go, but I assure you, I can beat you all on that count :) :D So let's not bother eh? :p

Answers please folks...

Didn't have a telly for 5 years. Probably could give it up without any pain, so that don't count?

I'm just popping down the local Maplin, I'll post back with a link to what I was talking about ;) (mind it's strictly NSFW & probably in violation of the U-rating, so I might have to explain instead of post a direct link).

EDIT: Or Filipe can post it, since he's around, he knows what I'm talking about :)

Sleeping - 3 days and 2 nights. Woke up on Friday morning and went to sleep Sunday night.

Blimey 2 nights without sleep and I was halucinating!
Pulling double shifts at work and partying in my free time, on my last night on shift I had a thrilling half hour discussion with the coat rack thinking it was my manager...

:( :( :( WhereI work you would get more sense out of the coat rack than any manager.

As for the abstinence thing----well there's fags.
Bit of a slip up on that front though.

Thought that I was going to have the longest break from riding a bike at 14 years, but Dave, you certainly beat me there

I didn't know that there's high odds ratio (probability) between not riding a bike and not having diabetes  Sorry, had to get that one in - I'm a Biomedical Scientist after all :smt082

Well- getting to 3.5 years without a sh@g. Barely miss it now I've got Yuvutu!!! lol! And life is so much simpler!!!

Now about 5 months of not being in a band (after about 8 years in)

I once did 8.5 months without booze- can just manage 4 days now (Monday-Friday).

I've given up the ghost for far longer than all of that!!!

I've also been without a keyboard (musical) for 5 months- the first time I was without some kind of keyboard since I was 11 (my first was a Casio keyboard with the perennial bossa-nova!!)

OK OK, the whole reason for starting this thread was, as some folks have guessed, intimate pleasures. Let me explain...

Whilst killing time in the office (let's not start swearing with the W word please!), I stumbled across something that at first glance, made me giggle. On a closer look, it was pretty boring, but still.

OK, well, since I deem it NSFW, imagine the situation, and entire species of females that have not had that pleasure for 100million years. This is hosted on The Register, and if you want to find it, you can do so pretty easily. The headline is the main part that I consider NSFW (and doesn't really fit with the U-Rating here either). Something about not doing something in that amount of time. The subheading on the article is "No, not Anne Widecombe!" THAT'S what had me spitting my coffee out in the office.

After reading the article (like I said, it's pretty boring), I was itching to post something on here about it, but I figured that I would censor myself, so I thought I'd ask about general abstainence instead :)

All clear as mud now?

Food - 48 hours with nothing but water. You know in Tom & Jerry when Tom looks at Jerry and he turns into a ham? That was me...

Intimate pleasures? 5 years and 10 months. After I was used and abused one night I thought I would save it for somebody I cared about who cared about me. Little did I know...

Not Safe For Work.

If the company chairman had of walked in & seen words that are in that article on my screen, I'd of been packing the contents of my desk into a box 5mins later. Therefore, NSFW (even though it's only words, no pictures).

I was going to say 12 years for the cigs. But I then realised I am subjected to them everytime I go to the pub, or hospital.

<victor>
Why if these people are well enough to walk from their beds to the door to smoke the stuff in the freezing cold in their PJs are they too ill to be sent home to indulge their habits?

12 Days for me. Primarily due to having to endure a ****tail of drugs and hospital food. The worst thing was the hospital would not let me leave until I had been to prove my bowels worked properly. This was due to having had small intestine damage when I broke my pelvis.

They give you laxative in liquid format that breaks down your waste. Trouble with that is that it works from the top so the old stuff was totally solid and not breaking down.

I basically had to try and Sh*t a brick. Once that was passed then the rest came out at a rather rapid pace. As if I wasn't in enough pain already with a broken pelvis, many broken ribs and internally damaged organs, I also left the hospital with my back side in tatters as well. :smt101 :(
