Just told Ebike insurance of my new address - policy went up - have to pay additional £13.02 as pro rata

Told Esure, who insure the car, policy went down big time, they are refunding quite a bit.

So where is the logic in that?

I noticed inconsistances in Ebike like that. Even though i now have 2yrs NCB their insurance is twice the cost now than what it was when i started with them and had 1yr NCB. No no wander i did not go with them, odd.

Anyway come summer i flip past the 25yrold shelf and it seems it gets cheeper.

its insurance mate there is no logic. Yup.

Unless - and this is the only logical explanation I can think of - bike theft is up in your area, but they leave cars well alone. In fact, they give you a car.

OK, maybe not that last bit.:^o

What Coolgirl said. Sounds like bike theft is an issue on that postcode but car theft isnt.

Personally, I think they have a tombola. That's why there's a pause after they have collected all of your details, they have to go and spin it and pick a quote out.

I used to work for an insurance brokers and we were told to make up a figure to charge people for changing address. An "admin charge" It used to normally be about a tenner. This was unless there was a small refund on the insurance for moving house, in which case we'd just use that as the admin charge and refund the customer nothing.....

Most areas with high volumes of bike theft tends to be organised gangs that focus on stealing bikes. Presumably these same chaps aren't interested in cars. If one of the gangs are operating in your area (they move around as local police/bikers get wise to them) bike crime may well be up in the area, whilst car theft is down.

That's the only logical/fact based explanation I can think of. Sadly, the more likely one, is that insurers have no idea what they're doing and just pick quotes at random.

I moved from a rented place the countryside to my own place in London suburbs, cost me £200 (60% of original) in bike premium increase, and that was only for the 8 months left on policy. Not looking forward to next renewal. Worse thing is that I have still have a disputed claim going on, so switching insurers is not really an option either. :(

Car insurance went up a little bit too, but more of a token effort change.
