View Full Version : Help with choosing Exhaust (Blue Flame?)

Hi all,

I'm planning to get a new endcan on my lovely at some point (maybe in a few months time, depending on cash). I've been looking at a blue flame stainless dual port- the price is good and it can be tuned. However, I've also seen a couple of threads on problems with these. My main aim is to get the bike sounding like a V-Twin (ie instead of skinny and tame, like the standard can)- I'm not keen on really changing the performance as such, as I'm pretty happy with that as it is.

Questions I have are-

Are there owners who are happy/have not had trouble with the Blue Flame exhausts, to compare with the problem threads I've read?
do you need to re-jet the bike for Blue Flames? How much, on average does this cost?
What others are there (really looking at around £200 for the can), that also do not need re-jetting.
How hard is it to fit an exhaust yerself (providing Dyno-time is not required)? I've got no mechanical experience, but generally quite good with me hands, so not shy of doing it myself.

Much as I'd love one, Remus/Akrapovic etc are out of my price range. Someone recommended Carbon Can Co.- any thoughts on them?

Cheers as usual,

the D

we fitted one last weekend see this thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=86112)

not difficult to do as long as you don't mind sawing

I can vouch for the Carbon Can Co cans (thats what I've got :-)) I got the actual carbon one - single spout.

With the baffle in it sounds 100% better than stock, but take the baffle out and ....mmmmmmmmmmmm..... it is lubberly. Can't really comment about long term ownership as I only stuck it on last year - but no issues what so ever so far.

Fitting wise it's a doddle. You'll need a tape measure to mark for the cut and a hacksaw to make the cut your existing link pipe. Hardest bit really is just getting the endcan lined up with the rest of the bike.

Oh aye, and it shouldn't need rejetting with just changing the end can.

Hope some of that helps.

I loved my Fuel can - it looked awesome, sounded even better and never stopped putting a grin on my face  I've got twin Arrows on my TLR but I'm not convinced they're any better than the Fuel.

Couple of things you should bear in mind,

just about any slip on will make the bike sound awesome,
all will require you to cut the system,
None should need remapping/rejetting if it's only the can being changed,
Four sleeve matarials available, alloy(chapest) steel, titanuim, and carbon.

Alloy will need constant cleaning as the finish will naturally dull over time,
Steel (stainless) doesn't require muchapart from a wipe down to get of road grime,
Titanium is much the same as steel although lighter and a bit more exspensive,

Carbon lighter still, but more prone to heat blistering if not repacked regularly,

Race cans require repacking every 4-8K, the better ones are bolt together, the others require drilling out the rivits in order to do this.

Cheers Mark.

Does anyone know anything about G&G exhausts? These look pretty neat and they do them in black stainless. I'm thinking about some for my Triumph:

They make them for the SV too, but they're not as pretty:

Can't be of any help at all as I've never heard of them, but even so they do look nice don't they (and lets face it the standard ones are pretty naff).

I see they are not that far away (about 180mls),

Perhaps phone them up and arrange a trip up there to have a closer look?
