Don't it unscrew from the inside?

Didn't take much notice when I binned the original undertray.

Have a look up underneath the snow shovel rear plastics, up behind where the number plate bolts on, just above the holes for the number plate bracket is another bolt that the number plate light is held on with, undo it and then you'll be able to take the number plate light off.

You know the number plate light (white, not red) is a requirement right?

That said, the pointy version screws in from the back (the front of the bike backwards, behind the tail tidy) IIRC.

Its not a mot requirement, and i dont have anumber plate light -think my led rear light does the job well enough.

You sure

Where more than one rear registration plate lamp, or bulb, is fitted as original equipment , anyone in operative lamp or bulb is a reason for rejection. (see information column: multiple number plate lights)

I think you'll find it's also a legal requirement, but possibly acceptable MOT wise.

Well what i did to satisfy the MOT was to drill some holes in the rear light pointing downwards and put 3 LED's in pointing to the plate. From behind you cant see them at all but the numberplate is lit slightly.

you have to take back panels off & remove tail light to get to the screws.

all done............. but now i think a single line plate would look awsome, but they are iligal:( so not sure what size to go for

Does not mean that its not a legal requirement. Just that no one ever gets done for it. Also another thing is what MOT says is a requirement and what the plod say. If its not illuminated and they decide to take a dim view, you will for sure be done.

I know a mot place that will tell you to go and have a bite at the fry up and when you get back the MOT has been done without the bike moving 1 inch.

err, dont know. Down an ally and then into the workshop is all i remember. I did not take my bike there, it was a freinds bike, mine always passed a proper MOT, surprising realy.

I thought you did to, but Paws is correct. I found this PDF on another site, have a look at the 2nd page as it shows what the testers look for to pass or fail your bike.

looks awesome mate!

I was certain you needed a rear number plate light but looks like you don't, seems odd that it is required on a car but not a bike though.

right I'm gonna have a go at this on mine and stick a 7 x 5 on it, is that a standard size plate?

Our friends SV just failed it's MOT for not having a number plate light.Seems MOT centres make the rules to suit themselves:mad:

Apparently it's in the new book as a requirement, in the "number plate" section along with the dimensions etc. So that'd explain the ticksheet, since it'd just come under "number plate" there too, maybe.

Oh, Hovi5, that looks way better than I was expecting... The plate looks a wee bit odd, with it having no angle to it, but better that than having the gaping hole where the light was. Not seen that before.

I'm gonna have a go at this after my MOT, probably put some LEDs on there for a back light anyways.

thanx............. a 9x3 plate would look the nuts IMO

I don't like tiny plates myself, mine is I think a 4.5 x 7, or something like that, and it keeps the proportions nice I think. I've got a 6x4 plate somewhere and it just looks a bit silly, like a man with a very small head :) But whatever floats your frosties ;)
