View Full Version : helmet/wearing glasses?

I wear glasses and have a Shoei Syncrotec II, which I find pretty comfy to wear with my glasses on, but I am now looking for a new helmet, and I am thinking of getting a full face non-flip front one.

Are there any glasses wearers out there who can recommend me a full face helmet? Is it easy to get your glasses on once the lid is on? Comfy for long distances? Looking for something around the £200 - £250 mark (eg Shoei Raid 2).

Thanks
Greg

PS contact lenses are not an option for me.

Hi Greg

I've just bought an Arai Condor and although it's a snug fit, my glasses seem to slip on over my ears OK :D They are the slim arm type tho'

Being a snug fit also helps them to stay in place

Cheers

Tim

I've worn glasses for about 10 years now, I don't have a problem on any Arai's (had a quantum f, Astro J Astro R)as the lining is softer, and there seems to be ample room on my Shoei Z one was a bit tight on the RF800 I had though, your best bet is to go to one of the bigger shops and try them with your glasses (also some glasses don't work with crash helmets).

Cheers Mark.

Cheers, I'm off to try on some on Saturday but wanted to get an idea of what works first (don't want to try on everything in the shop!).

Must admit hadn't considered Arai, I thought they were all expensive, although the HG site has the Condor at around my price level. Don't they come with pinlock now?

Yup, you can get them with pinlock though I personally haven't had much success with Arai and pinlock.

Have you thought of contact lenses?

The new Soei Multitech whilst still a flip front is very good, I had a Synchrotech II and the new one is more comfortable and quieter; it comes with a pinlock, a tinted visor and a whisper kit in the price.

The arais seem to have a cut away slot on the side of your head for glasses to slip into. Certainly oakley style long straight stems fit well.

Just a tip, against fogging I found a fog mask to be the best solution, rather than any pinlock or venting system.

I was at Infinity in London last weekend and they had this fantastic new Caberg, which looked like a normal full face helmet, only it was a flip front, with an inbuilt second dark visor and had wireless technology inside!

The clever thing was the normal visor could be opened independently of the flip front, so it's both a full-face and a flip-front, with the addition of a sun-visor and wireless.

It looks great with real polished metal trim, and all the flip-mechanism is concealed by two flush panels. It was £150, and I think it looked best in matt black.

If you're not a brand-queen I would definately look at this.

Arai's here.

I find any other gives me problems.

But it's personal preference tbh. Go try em on ;)

I thought exactly the same things about the Caberg V2 - looks good, but really sucks.

Hehe. Yes, I have one. It's so pretty, but SO F**KING LOUD. Other than that though, I don't have an issue with it. It's great round town, as it refuses to fog, and the dark visor is a brilliant idea. If they made it more flush, without the vents, then it would be quieter, but it wouldn't look nearly so good.

How many miles you got on it? By the time mine had done 4,000 miles, it was loose, and it had been tight to start with. Same with my mate's, which was just as bad.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Tried a Caberg a while ago, I think I've got the wrong sized head for them as it just wasn't comfortable.

Had considered a Multitec, but I want a full face/non-flip one this time, with my Syncrotec to use as a spare if I want a flip (it's only 4 yrs old and not in too bad nick).

Can't get on with contact lenses, can't stand anything poking in me eye...:smt103

Off to try some on tomorrow.
Cheers
Greg

Haven't there been some serious questions over the effectiveness of Cabergs

My personal opinion is go for the Arai's, Shoei's etc - not for the brand name, but for the fact they are proven safe helmets.

Cost is not an issue in my world - how much do you really value your bonce.

I have an Astro R and an "SV", both Arai's and when I want to, I can wear my glasses, or even sun glasses quite easily.

It's a case of trying them and seeing how comfy you are. Helmets are a personal thing ;)

Been out shopping today and bought one of these (Shoei Raid 2, which I'd already had my eye on)

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q10/gregcbr/shoeiraid2.jpg

Tried on quite a few and this one was the best fit for me and the glasses fit fine. Well pleased with the graphics too, makes a change from my plain sliver Syncotec.

Thanks for all the advice
Greg
