View Full Version : Ageist question, how old are you orgers ?

oldjack

Its just occurred to me that the only 3 bike riders in our street are in their 50s. Judging by some of the threads on the org a lot of you must be of that age as well. Where have all the young riders gone? Are we a dying breed?

Also what age do you think people give up bikes, I can't think of anybody I know over 65 still riding.

So how old are you and when do you think you'll pack it in?

56 and I plan to carry on riding as long as I can probably to make up for lost time in my 30s and 40s when I was bikeless...

I ride all year and like winter riding except when it's absolutely chucking it down or very icy!

Twenties, me. It seems many of us are, which I guess reflects the SV as a good beginners bike (also affordable)

20s and I'll ride until either my body can't take it or it's too expensive, or until it's too expensive to fix my bodyto ride.

Has anyone ever got arthritis in a racing crouch position? Would make getting on and off the bike interesting, I reckon a new type of crane for winching old bikers off their bikes could make millions, I'm off to the Dragon's Den.....

As long as I live to be 96, I'm middle aged, don't seem likely does it

Got no years to make up, never been without a bike, I always thought I'd be riding until they nailed the lid down, these days that's been modifed to include until it hurts to much.

Cheers Mark.

Similar for me - 53 and regretting that I stopped riding in my 40s ;)

However, perhaps not intending to ride all winter in the future

Turned 40 this year, can't understand it, I was playing with my meccano and Raleigh Chopper one day, started liking girls the other day, met my wife and abra cadabra... I'm 40 with a 19 year old daughter telling me to call the next time I'm gonna be late for sunday dinner; "Sorry dear, your mother and I were having too much fun chasing other bikes down the coastroad :))

As a cynical ol' crone I am reckoned to be about 257, give me a few more years and I'll have worked my way up to 'Embittered Hag'!

At least that's when I'm not giggling like a 7 year old anytime someone posts up about 'Rim' tape.

Tee hee hee!

Judging by the poll 99% of bikers (SV riders anyway) pack it in by 60:smt022:reaper:, ties in with what we see on the roads I suppose.

It is to be expected if my own experience is anything to go by, I feel the cold more every winter, my knees are full of aches and pains, I take longer and longer to recover from injury, etc., etc. :(, looks like I've got 3 more grumpy old years of it to put up with then :D :smt060:riding::thumleft:

Im in my 30's, but get told I look mid 20's...which is fine by me!!!

I know plenty of people over 65 who are still riding, but they usually go to trad rallies and ride older style bikes.

Also lots of bikers don't give up bikes, they turn to the likes of trikes and sidecar outfits...as will I when I can no longer rely on my legs at the traffic lights.
