Pulled out to pass a tw@ on the motorway who was speeding up/slowing down constantly.. as I rounded the next corner there's a police speed check set up on the motorway bridge, the speed detecting equipment appeared to be pointing the direction I had come from, but was above the opposite carriageway.
Long story short, I'd been doing 70-80 for 20 miles, pulled out to pass this git and for less than half a mile I was doing max 95 - sods law!
Sitting on eggs now for the next few weeks watching the letterbox

if it was above the opposite carrageway you ought to be alright.
if it was above the opposite carrageway you ought to be alright.
Ditto.
They tend to track speeders as the go away from the bridge. That way, they are invisible to the on coming motorist until they have already gone under the motorway bridge.

I think, more often than not, they would send a squad car to hunt you down from a mobile speed trap.
Could be wrong though...

The speed checks are done using Vascar, time and distance measurement and uses permanent objects such as a bridge and also those white squares or dots in the middle of the lanes. This distance is pre-measured and will be a designated speed check area. An average speed will be calculated between that set distance.
These checks will be done on on-coming traffic the majority of the time and the police vehicle can be parked on either side of the carriageway (as long as they can see the markers). One main reason for sitting with the vehicle in view of the on-coming vehicles is that it gives the police a chance to get off the bridge and onto the motorway to pull the vehicle over (they will know before it gets under the bridge if its excess speed) another reason is high visibility patrols...traffic control.
If you see a police car on a bridge, slow down, remember its done on average speed, so it may be the difference between getting points or not.
Hope this helps.

Bugger, that put my theory out the window then.

If it's done for oncoming vehicles, do they run over to the other side of the bridge to get the number plates for bikes? Assuming they're just taking numbers and not driving after them to pull them over.

I have never just taken number plates, if a vehicle is speeding we would pull it over...
Ah right. Looks like netsurfer should be OK then.

OK, what would get your attention? :-dd
Could it be that they were taking video/photographs of speeders to stuff niceties in the post?
If it was fraser watching you from the bridge, you're alright, but I reckon you still have a reason to keep an eye on the letterbox.

quite a while a go despite what i should have done to prevent it, i had to run a red light for the safety of myself and my pillion, its not something i ever plan to do again, but i got flashed from behind i havent heard anything from it yet, but the wait was horrible, i definatly learnt the lesson of forward planning though.
i over took a police car yesterday on the A52, i think people think its a crime to do it lol, and they would get A pulled over or B observed like a hawk untill you did something wrong.. but he was doing 40 in a seventy so indicated . . down two gears and screamed past. . .back to 70mph but the look from him it was quite amusing, when a twin down gears and screams past but doesnt break the limit lol,
and i use a standard can lol,
i dont think you will get a letter, besides they are proven inaccurate on bikes anyhow.
