For those times when you don't have a lock or want more protection on the SV consider the following freebies:
Turn the ignition key cover round (stick the key in a little bit and you can rotate the cover so someone with a screwdriver can't attack it so easily.
Flip the kill switch; this isn't ideal as the switch isn't made to be used frequently, but it's something that isn't usually checked when trying to start a bike in a hurry.
And best of all - leave the bike in gear. On fuel injected bikes the fuel pump doesn't prime and the display comes up with 'CHEC' and it appears to be a fuel injection fault. Took me a while to suss it out, plus you can't roll the bike.
None of them will stop a group of blokes picking the bike up, alarm blaring, and sticking it in a van, but they do make it a lot more hassle for some opportunist to ride off with the bike.
Also handy for practical jokes on other SV riders...
