Who else has got one of these beauties and especially who plays Motorstorm online? I need more buddies on there.

Not bothering, the things too expensive for a start. Mind you got the boy a Wii yesterday after many months of waiting. This is the console to have for pure fun.
yep way way too expensive, waiting for them to drop in price :smt022 and the fact so many places have them in stock seems i'am not the only one
played on - can't justify the cost and owning an xbox360 i'm quite happy

No way, at that price. Maybe in 3 years time once they've come down. Apparently it's no better for games than the 360 - the extra cost is the blu-ray drive (the next betamax?)
I've got a Wii - great fun.

The 360 is so much better anyhow.
Give the PS3 a year or so and it may be the other way round.
/me sticks with 360

Ditto on the waiting.
Sales figures show that this is what we (the UK) is doing.
160,000 sold launch weekend, only 30,000 since, and they are still on the shelves.
Also there are currently no games for it that I really want - Motorstorm looks fun, but not £450 worth of fun.
The other factor is WHY is it so expensive when the US and Japan get it for almost 60% of the UK price. I guess that when its only £30 quid or so, we put up with it, but £150 makes people look at the "Rip off Britain" thing more closely.

From my PS2 experience I'll not be getting one....
Just bought PS2 as they can be had for dirt cheap now, but have been very disapointed... it's nothing like as good as a PC!
The controls are far too sensitive and I can't separate brakes from steering - I'm weaving all over the track, or hitting the brakes mid corner on GT4 and TT Bikes. Oh, and on the bikes I don't have enough hands to steer, brake and shift my weight on the bike... then there's a manual g/box to cope with!

Yep, got one and loving it. Prefer it over the XB360 and Wii atm as well. Sold the Wii after owning it for 2 months, just a gimmick for the kids that machine. PS3 feels more like a grown up machine not some gaudy play thing. Got mone from Japan in Feb and never missed a heart beat unlike my 5th (yes 5th) Xbox 360. I actually don't enjoy playing Xbox 360 anymore, I'm always worried if I play too long it will overheat and die. Any machine where you have loads of 3rd parties creating fan unit's is a huge concern. Plus the whole Xbox Elite package just sucks, talk abotu alienating your clientele. PS3 rocks, and if the launch line up is anything to go by we are in for some really hot games. Not got teh UK version of Motorstorm yet (the Jap version does not have online mode as it was more of a Beta:( ) which is not a good decision. Yes the price is expensive but with a built in Blu Ray player it works out cheaper than buying the 360 and HDDVD add on. Although, you just don't get the choise whether you want Blu Ray, but that's probably why that format is doing much better than HDDVD right now.

Price is a big problem for the PS3. It's almost twice the price here as in Hong Kong (source http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/03/30/ps3_price_survey/)
They aren't selling well here, or in the US, or in Japan. It's also very expensive for games companies to develop games for. There's simply not high enough sales of games to recoup the development costs. This means that that there'll be very few exclusive titles for PS3 as most of the games will be cross-platform (360 and PS3) in order to maximise sales. Why pay more for the PS3 when the same games run on the cheaper 360? A lot of people think that Sony have shot themselves in the foot with this one.
With Wii games being cheaper to develop, and the Wii outselling the PS3 by 2 to 1, the games companies are switching their focus from the PS3 to the Wii. One games company (Eidos, I think) have announced that they won't even be releasing any PS3 games until 2008.
I can't really see any reason to bother with the PS3, which is a shame really, as it's probably quite a nice console.

I'm playing the waiting game myself. However, I'm going to the states next month and I considered getting one there for about 5 seconds when I realised that would probably be more trouble than it's worth. I take it both games/DVD/Bluray will all be regionalised, thus meaning absolutely no media bought in this country would work on it?

The same thing happened with the PS2 when it was launched. Although the titles that were out on launch for the PS2 were shockingly bad, only SSX and Ridge Racer worthy of note. Developers were claiming that the PS2 was really difficult to develop and would probably not bring out many exclusives as the Xbox was much easier to develop. But look what happened, PS2 went on to be a huge success. I'll certainly agree that teh PS3 is not selling as well as the others mainly due to price and it's a shame as it's a great machine. But perhaps Sony are looking at the long game with this console. TBH I don't care who wins this console war, as long as there are good games I will be a happy bunny. I also have a pretty hot PC right now but to get anywhere near the performance of a decent console you need to spend well over £1000 so consoles are better value for money overall, especially as now you can browse Tinternet on your console (Wii & PS3 and Dreamcast at least).
Delays to the next Gran Turismo release have saved me a fortune, its the reason I got the PS1 and PS2. GT5 won't be out for a year and hopefully PS3 prices will be way lower by then.

Games are currently region free (and I believe are to stay that way)
Blu-Ray is also currently region free, but I expect that to change soon.

Oooh.
Ahhh. This is a pain. Any way of finding out, or has a decision not been made? (or can they be chipped?)
Who else HAS GOT ONE OF THESE! Not who hasn't!

I've got one, and it f**kin rocks. Hooked up to a 1080i TV the picture quality is awesome, blurays look amazing, and it's much quieter than the 360. Quality bit of kit, works with all my usb add ons too - headset, HDD etc.
Only bummer is lack of PS2 compatiility - tourist trophy p*sses all over any xbox bike games, whatever the fanboys say, so i've got to have the PS2 still hooked up too.
So what if they come down in price in a year - the amount they'll come down by is well worth the gameplay over the next few months.
Have got motorstorm and it's great (and i usually can't be arsed with arcadey games) but haven't done the offline mode yet so not doing much online. Username is the same as on here so say Hi if i'm on!

Tempted but only got the 360 around Christmas time and daughter wants a Wii. Probably wait for GT packs to be launched, or keep the 360 and pay for 3 track days instead. Hmmmm
I'll be chosing between a wii or a 360... depends on what I can get second hand.

I got my son one. (i had promised him it last year cos he is mad on the PS2.)
Little did i know what this would all cost me. First there was the cost of the console, then I had to upgrade his tv to an HD one (Another £300  ) in time for the release and finally buy a few games and a second controller for thing.
I do have to say though that it absolutely rocks. I hardly ever played the PS2 but now the wee man is complaining to his mum that dad's in his room all the time and he can't get a shot ha ;)
Its really good quality graphics and the online gaming is excellent (and free) as well in my experience.
Really pleased with it. There has been folks saying that there is plenty in the shops so it can't be selling well but i think that it broke the console launch sales records again. For once a company has been prepared fro the estimated volume of sales.
Way too expensive for my budget I'm afraid...besides, I'd want to get the HD telly first:smt033

I understood the PS3 to be backwards compatible with PS2 games, this not the case then?

I have the 360, although I am seriously considering going back to PC gaming, despite all the hype there is not too much difference really between the two, as has already been pointed out majority of the titles will be available for both.
I have been looking at the PC base units that connect to your normal TV, with the right components inside it, it could easily take the place of my console and i get my keyboard and mouse back (yay) and do all the otherstuff the pc does that the console doesnt.

I do just that fraser. I have a CRT display on the desk with my PM (and a million bits of paper). I have an S-Video out on the graphics card. This feeds into a wireless sender (purchased from Maplin). That transmits radio waves to the receiver unit, which is plugged via Scart into my TV (The TV actually has a DVI in which I could use, but I use the wireless setup due to distance).
I also have a wireless keyboard & mouse. The graphics card can choose which output it uses.
The result, when the kids aren't in, I can play whatever games I like on the 38" flat TV, when they want to watch a video etc, I can work using the CRT on the desk.
Oh yea, when the kids aren't in, I can also play on the PS2. Would of bought a PS3, but it was my son's b'day present, and they weren't released in the UK in time. Never seen the point of the 360, as said above, titles are the same as the PC.

i thought about one, but the price is quite frankly shocking. sure it's cheap if you want a blu ray player but i, erm, don't :(
i think nintendo have really added a new level with the Wii's control system as it is so innovative - i'll be getting one of these at some point instead. Fair point about the games being more child-oriented, i've heard that before, but at the end of the day the games can be changed on a Wii but i don't expect they'll introduce a Wii-style control system on a PS3.
