I always knew I was different, not like everyone else. Few people seemed to identify with me and I found it really difficult. This is a hard thing to tell to a forum full of people I've never met before, but...
but...
I'm....
I'm a geek.
There, I've said it. I'm a self-confessed, ethernet-crimping-Linux using geek.
There, I'm out.
I will shun you accordingly.

There, I'm out.
I used to be a self employed ethernet-crimping-Linux using/installing geek.
I make no secret of that either, that's what paid for my house (well, guranteed me a mortgage). Now I'm a resident code monkey. In Java no less.
If you can't make a router out of a 286 & a floppy, there's something wrong with you!
Now I'll just sit here waiting for the obligitory "jock" mis-quoting to start :) & the "real programmers" to abuse the language.

Well, you'e okay by me. I saw a film last night about your types. There were these 300 geek blokes who had a bit of a set to with a horde of Persians.
The lesson I learnt from this, was not to trust hunchbacks .... oh, and not to drink fizzy drink to early on in the film.

Too easy mate!
sits back and refuses to take bait.
sits back and refuses to take bait.
Fair enough, but for any that take the bait, be prepared to also bite when I throw in C/C++/Fortran/Cobol/ABAP (SAP), plus other things like VB (another easy target) & TP (which I was "taught" at college & that's the last time I used it). ;) Oh yea, don't forget scripting languages too whilst you're there, like Python/Perl/PHP.

hehe. Yeah the image i tried to upload first didn't work. woopsie! theres nothing wrong with being a bit geeky, as long as you get out the house often enough! theres nothing like a w4nkers tan! hehe
I'm a recovering geek I guess. I've not written a line of code for what must be 10 years. I no longer get the urge to compile scripts or patch assembler.

Nowt wrong with being a geek. Who esle would marvel at the sight of an NMR machine, and question its operating frequency, and know what each noise means? Or the Mass Spec instrument? (the one here at uni has a transparent top, you can see all the quadrupoles and everything, is great!)
