Maybe we should start handing out leaflets or something to others SV riders we meet on our travels. We'll never qualify for our own section if there's ony 3 of us :smt022
Thanks to my Mum I can't ride round some of the North Welsh roads without being pulled in by the gravitational pull of obscure relatives in Llanfairfechan. ;)
... I could pretend I'm in N Wales...
I've met one outside Tesco Llandudno Junction. Nipped in, saw him wearing bike gear "Nice bike fella, shame it's a curvy" with a cheeky grin. Got an odd look back.
I went out, he was just getting ready to go, I figured it best not to tell him about the site, he'd of probably taken it as a dating site  Wasn't you glsuk1970 was it? ;) IIRC, it was a red curvy.

No, hang on ..... Don't get the wrong idea here .... I said, "My nan was Welsh so does that get me in?"
That doesn't mean I actually want to join.
If there arent enough members for a N.Wales set up how about adding Cheshire into the mix as well.

Not guilty, I'm afraid. I prefer Sainsburys and Blue K6's.

Considering the welcome I have had to north wales in the past. I want nothing to do with the place. Now if we can just plant enough explosives to get the place to break off and sink into the Irish sea I will be very happy.
One pub I went into with my boss. As soon as they heard us talking, someone said said something out loud in Welsh to which they all laughed, util my boss told them in welsh that they were a bunch of ignorant inbreeds. (He lived in St Asaph and was learning the language). The police there once decided to check my car at 7am and objected the crates of beer in the boot. Escorted me back to the english border. Bunch of sheep abusing t055ers.
A friend used to own Pale Hall Hotel at Bala in the late 80s, early 90s. He tells me that he used to get abuse from the locals and he was providing them with employment and investing in the area. Talk about biting the hands that feed you, no wonder they pulled the plug on the place.
South wales is a very friendly place. The people of generous and helpful. (Even the police) but North Wales. I never want to go back and your welcome to Brunstrum.
So please keep your sheep rustling mitts off Cheshire. It is nice there, I work there. It is English and we want nought to do with you. Anne Robinson was right. The place can go in room 101

Tim, you make me larf!
Like I said, been here 6 years now & not heard a bad word about English folks (I'm a Yorkshireman by birth). Would be a bit hard to discriminate against the English though, when everyone around you is either a scally or a manc.
We're only 7 miles from the nearest point of the Welsh border. Too many folk in this town are called Evans:D

Maybe things have improved. But when I was there, the locals were nasty ignorant club footed oafs. Imagine a copper stopping you and after checking lights, tyres, horn, wipers, washers, telling you to get you to empty the boot and getting on his high horse and calling you and english ******* simply because you brought some beer incase you end up in a dry sunday area and threatening to do you for a breach of the peace at 7 in the morning. Simply because you had an English plate.
I used to work in Connahs Quay. Locals again were either thick or inbread. When I did my advanced driver we did a jaunt into North Wales. Yup I got a tug near Queeensferry with an met instructor in the passenger seat. He went ballistic but I still got a producer because of my English plates.
Heh heh, I used to joke that there was Anglesey (that was OK because of the tourists) then Snowdonia (the real ignorant bit) then the rest of the world. ;)
There are parts that are still as ignorant as feck - and folks living in them that only speak Welsh. There are even still pubs like that in some of the more worldy wise areas of darkest North Wales...
... but what can you expect from a foriegn country. ;)
It's all historic anyways - South and Mid Wales were more under the thumb of the English Kings and benefitted by it. In a very simillar fashion to much of southern Englad when under Roman rule.
North Wales, with its more defensable areas, coupled with being less desirable (less 'profitable') coutryside was the final bastion of rebellion - also the ancient seat of Welsh Princes anyway.
It held out longest because of (other than great tactics) natural defenses and the 'breadbasket' of Anglesey to provide supplies. Much more self sustaining that the rest of Wales.
But that very fact led it to being crushed under an iron rule once they had been defeated (Marcher Lords/Castles etc) rather than the more political 'defeat' of South and Mid Wales.
Basically the English rule of North Wales was harsh and affected the common people, whereas in South and Mid Wales it was less so and the common man barely noticed it.
Such historic resentment is bound to hang around in an area where they have their own language to insult you in. ;)
I'll never forget when I took my daughter to Snowdonia for a hiking weekend a few years ago. We stopped off for a drink at a little place at the foot of Snowdon, and while we were sat there a Japanese couple came in and were reading through the Guest book. The lady of the couple said 'I'll sign your book, but I won't do it in Japanese, I'll do it in your language..........ENGLISH!' I choked on my coke! The owner, to his credit, didn't say a word. He was trying too hard not to laugh at the expression on my face:D
We personally have never had a problem in Wales with the local people being unfriendly. Our mates reckon it's cos I'm so small people just look at me and think, 'Aw, bless!':D

Ah, possibly they think you are one of their own who got lost on the wrong side of the border. ;) Welsh women are dimuitive yet with strong personalities.
I will also say that if you can break the ice with even the stubbornest of North Welsh, be it through the mention of a distant relative, or best yet, through an obvious love of their countryside - they are amongst the friendliest and welcoming of folk.
Some just have a tough shell to crack first...
... but to be honest, that's one of the thing I like about 'em.
There are even still pubs like that in some of the more worldy wise areas of darkest North Wales...
The pub in our village (yes, we have a 'village pub') is exactly like that.
First time we went in, we were expecting hassle. As soon as the door opened, complete silence. Everyone looked round at us. 5seconds later they'd carried on with what they were doing. We then got asked by pretty much everyone in the pub how we were settling in, even from people we had no clue who they were!
I've also taken mates in there, and they get the same reaction, usually because I let them walk in first  But once they're seen with a local, business as usual again.

Wow! No wonder the rest of the world think the english are a bigoted bunch of xenophobic, arrogant gits!
The incomers who get problems with the locals are normally the same ones that refuse to fit in, just try to import a little england with them. Those same people would live in Spain / France / Germany etc and not bother to learn the local customs or the languange.
I won't comment on the owners of Pale but I know many folks in Llandderfel (some of whom I went to school with) and know the story from the local's point of view.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience Tim, but that tirade based on one experience is rather OTT.

Did you report him? This was an @rsehole copper and probably has nothing to do with where you come from. We see many anecdotes on here of apparent unfair treatment. Many black English people would say that is how they are treated by English forces. Face it there are bad coppers, report him and get him disciplined.

Ignorant that they still speak thier mother tongue? Ignorant to be maintaining thier culture and traditions? Your statement implies that it is ignorant to be speaking your own language in your own country. Would you have the temerity to make such a statement to a Spaniard in Spain or Japanese in Japan?
Such historic resentment is bound to hang around in an area where they have their own language to insult you in. ;)
Is it? or are English folks that come to Wales convinced we are talking about them simply because we choose to converse in the language of the land of our birth and they cannot understand the conversation?

No different to the reaction you get in village pbs around Britain. That is not a uniquely Welsh thing, it is in fact far from unique. Try going into an estate pub in any city of Britain, you will get quiet hostility because you are not 'one of us'.
or are English folks that come to Wales convinced we are talking about them simply because we choose to converse in the language of the land of our birth and they cannot understand the conversation?
Sorry, but I'm English, and I honestly did think that I was being talked about at first. It was only later that this opinion changed. Why did I have that opinion in the first place? Well, IMO, it was an irrational one, and one I only held because that's what I had been told happens. Nothing more.
I still barely speak a word of Welsh, but at least I'm making an effort, unlike many many "immigrants."
Yes, there's been a few times that I know some idiot has been talking about me in Welsh, in, let's say an impolite manner. Get into an argument with a German, and I'll put money on it that they call you a few names in German.
I still find it strange that French/German/Spanish/Italian is taught in English schools (I was taught French at school, in Yorkshire), yet Welsh isn't even an option. For anyone that finds it a problem me suggesting Welsh should at least be an option, please feel free to justify why EU languages are taught over a native UK one. Let's face it, Wales is part of the UK.
Blimey, emotive thread aint it? :D

Right, as you can tell from the above posts I'm pretty p1ssed off with the anti-Welsh sentiments being shown on here. If I was gay or black or some other minority, you would even think of making such sweeping derogatory comments towards my background.
I posted this thread up to see if there were any other SV owners from N. Wales who might want to join in and get a group going for rideouts, information exchange, etc. After the posts from certain quarters, they are hardly likely to feel welcome are they?
If you guys are out there... Peidiwch a grando arnyn nhw! Fedra i hoffi trefnu cyfarfod o beiciwr sy'n bwyw yn Nghogledd Cymru, nid beiciwr cymraeg yn unig. Fydd na croeso i bawb.
For those of you too ignorant to understand more than one language here is a translation:-
Don't listen to them! I would like to arrange a meeting bikers that live in North Wales, not just Welsh bikers. There will be a welcome for all.
I didn't think I'd given anyone reason to get their back up - but if I have to you Luckypants then I do appologise.
Try reading back what I've posted with a bit of tongue in cheek or sarcastic humour and you may find that whilst I have great respect for the Welsh and their history, I am also aware of what that history can breed.
As for what you've quoted in particular - I specifically separated 'parts that are still ignorant' from 'and folks living in them that still only speak Welsh'.
The fact the Welsh have a living and breathing language, taught in schools, primarily used in public communication - this is one of their greatest achievements both as an act of defiance and as a living homage to their own culture and history.
There are those who can, even in this so-called 'enlightened age', only speak Welsh simply because there is not the need for them to do anything else...
... however, there are also those who do choose to use their language as a tool for derision and ridicule. Historically this has been so - and it still carries weight today.
Just as there are those who shave thier heads for a convenient haircut and those who use it as a statement of their political beliefs.
There are ********s in all cultures - I try not to be one. Honestly.
Personally I have been to N.Wales dozens of times walking and climbling and the like and never had a problem with anyone. Probably helps that I usually start anyone conversation with a smile and an enquiry as to there welfare as in 'Aright mate hows it going?' .Maybe some of you could try the same eh ?Then we all dont get branded English Wank'rs.!

All getting a bit serious, isn't it? Have I stumbled on to the Celebrity Big Brother forum by mistake? Luckypants was only trying to get a few site lurkers from North Wales to say "hello" and he's met with a barrage racial abuse!
You're only about 15 miles from me and I'm up for a few ride-out's along with anyone else from the site, that's if there's any North Wales members left who haven't been scared off and bought IL4's already!

I am sure that the vast majority of people from North Wales are just like you. Pleasant and welcoming. It is an extreamly small minority that spoil it with what appears to be extreame anti English. Unfortunately people remember their bad experiences. I have re read my booze fuel tirade and apologise for going over the top. My experience of one extreamly poor copper probably clouds things.
Again sorry for venting my spleen against the whole nation

Just don't mention the war. I did once, but I think I got away with it.;)
Got to share this one with you. On holiday in Germany two years ago, we were parked up at a very busy bike meeting place just across from the Sorpa dam. The only Brits there were us, and our mates Swifty and Linda. All of a sudden Pete shouts out really loudly, 'Achtung, Spitfire!' There was a deathly silence as everyone turned to stare at him. The glares turned to smiles though as a couple of seconds later a Spitfire car burbled past. For a split second though, I thought we were toast!:D
Oh Lissa that's priceless.
On languages, my Mum had an interesting time when she n Dad went on holiday to South America. One of the countries they were taking in on the trip was Patagonia - where Welsh is widely spoken!
Apparently the country was settled in predominently by Welsh explorers and obviously the language went with them.
Mum was gabbling away acting as translator at times as the one of the Guides on the coach only spoke Spainish and English.
