Just noticed that my brake light does not come on when I press the rear brake, works fine when you pull the front brake?
Could anybody point out a possible reason/fix for this before I take it into the dealers?
Cheers, Nick

check that the brake pedal is actuating the brake light switch - it'll be attached to a wire springy thing (technical term) attached to the pedal/lever

If the spring gets stretched out enough, it will cease to actuate the rear light. There is a screw adjuster to tighten it up. If thats all fine I'd say its just a bad wire/connection somewhere.

the spring is right next to where your heel is and is tiny. . . i lost mine when i binned it and i need a new one or ill fail my mot BUT i rarely use the back break anyway.

Can pretty much gaurentee that it is the little spring, if you cant see it that is the issue.

Have you had the bulbs out? only asking because a freind *cough cough* took his bulbs out and managed to put them in upside down even with the bayonet fixings supposedly only letting them go in one way, so the up shot was that there was no contact being made when the rear lever was applied....some people and there technical knowledge...shouldnt have a dog license yet alone a bike license ;)

Won't be the same as what your "friend" did as it still operates the brake light when the front brake is applies, plus the SV650 has LED rear lights!
I have this exact same problem. It passed it's MOT in December so must have been workin then but I noticed it wasn't working last week so I must have done something when I fitted the full exhaust system. Will have to check the spring on mine!

Phil - If you find out what it is then give me a shout & I'll do the same ;-)
Have you tried operating the light by pulling on the switch yet? You should only need to pull it down a tad and you might feel a little click...if it works the light, then you'll probably have to adjust things to make the pedal operate the light correctly. I just did this the other week...when I fitted a new brake pedal...

All sorted now. Mine was the spring that attatches to the lever. Must have come off when I fitted my Aky can!!!!
