The Metzeler Z6's are very highly regarded for the SV. I think that's what most people on here run on.

Cheers Mark.

The K3 cam swap- K3 intake into the in side, and then move your old intake into the ex side- got the best return in terms of power vs spend imo... £130 or so if you can DIY it, gives a few hp all over and (depending on who you listen to) 3-7bhp at peak but also flattens off the peak, so you're close to full power for longer. As standard the SV's power drops like a stone as you approach the redline, but this reduces that a lot so you can overrev it more effectively. Compare that with £500+ for an exhaust, filter and rejet for about the same gain. (you can do it for less, mind, I did it for about £250 and a lot of time, but most folks can't)

'course, it makes more sense to leave it alone frankly- if you need more power, you need a different bike really. But it's something to do ;)

If you want to go faster on an SV, upgrade the rider and the suspension... An extra 20bhp won't make you much faster in the real world but an extra 5mph through every corner will. Better to be good at conserving speed than gaining speed. Also makes you safer as well as faster. I bet you a pound you'd be faster on an SV with a standard motor and sorted suspension and brakes than on a 100bhp SV with standard suspenders.

£140 - £160?

just want to add to this that i was looking for tyres and after reading on here settled on the z6's.. cheapest north west i could find was £210 fitted...found them online buy only for £160 ish but i ended up settling on a pair on conti road attacks for £130 buy only....another £20 fitting or £40 RIRO and im saving about £50...

people on here seem to get them a lot cheaper than me but seem to be down south...and i though up north was... reet cheeper for everythin;)

Balance the carbs, drain the floatbowls to clear out any crud/water, free if you can DIY

Set the throttle pot correctly (ditto)

Do the 2nd/3rd gear ignition wire mod (ditto)

If you want to spend a few quid, do the stepped key ignition advance (4deg), otherwise slot the ignition pick-up holes to get half the effect (2deg) for free.

None of the above make much noticeable difference but they all count and cost next to nothing if you can DIY.

Change front fork oil, £10 tops if you DIY, use 10W or maybe mix 10W and 15W to stiffen a little. Doesn't really sort front end but it's a cheap help. Next step is set the sag (washers, literally) or preferably some springs to suit your weight, around £70.

Decent tyres, £160 - 200 depending what/where.
