I'm not condoning the use of such either way, but, just think about it for a minute...
This will only work at night/low light levels as it makes the flash over-expose the image by reflecting the light back towards its source. So it won't work in daylight.
.
it dont work..>FACT! cant epolpe just slow down when going through speed cameras, its not like they are not visible. If you dont spot one, then your observation isnt good enough for the speed youa re doing!!
He's right, will only help with flash, and probably only at night. You can get a special covering that stops digital photography but allows your plate to be viewed by the naked eye, but that really annoys the cops and they will be able to tell if they're following you with a video camera.
give me £20. for that i promise you'll get same value for money
mix up some water and mud, spray it liberally over your number plate, re-apply until you can't see the letters...
can I have your £20 now? :)

I wouldn't completely write this stuff off! Im not sure if is the same stuff i had on my plate a while ago, but i got 'flashed' on the flyover going past Feltham and i never received any mail.
Yes could be other factors such as camera/human error but im glad my licence is still clean. That said it is a bit obvious when it is on the plate...i have some left so may put it on again.
I dont view it as bullet-proof, just a last resort, that may or may not save me. Saying that i paid nothing like £20!
There was a police camera TV programme. The coppers following a car could obviously see the number plate but their live video camera could not pick up the plate. So they stopped him and fined him when he wasn't doing anything else wrong (can't remember what the punishment was)

Yeh it can be quite obvious....i guess would be a fine for obstructing the plate.

Probably a £30 fixed penalty (same as not having a plate) but if they really wanted to they could push for something heavier (like intent to perverse justice or something).

like has been said just never clean your plate.
If you really want to avoid getting nabbed by the cameras then just get MrsApe to ride with you.
She has been flashed by several cameras and never had any come back from them. Apart from one in which she got a NIP. She sent the cheque and her licence and both came back with a letter stating that they were not going to prosecute.
She charges by the hour.

thats a very liberal attitude you're got there mate lol :smt043:smt043:smt043
I've heard of pillions letting their coats hang of the back of a bike obscuring the numberplate before (so long as its doesn't get sucked into the rear wheel !
Mud, mud glorious mud! Nothing quite like for obscuring your, er, plate!
Works for me, but not sure how it would work for you Kwak, officer won't believe that you "forgot" your plate when the rest is mirror clean! :D

Hmmm, I think I would be better to not let MrsApe see this particular thread.
But then again, I do hear it's good money to be made. :-k

got any links to this?
spray doesn't work at all, they can just turn the brightness down and see it

Great idea but if you get caught using this you get hammered by the courts-no fixed penalty-they look on this as you intentionally trying to evade lawful prosecution .

Now I use the real stuff... country lanes and a tail-tidy are the easiest recipe for a filthy numberplate, but for those in the town, try that ^^ :smt043

Hi.
I remember seeing loads of infomation some time ago about plates and sprays such as this to blind the camera. The computers can now split the picture into different colour channels and mess with contrast ratios and also look at light at the shorter and longer wavelengths. All this techy stuff can reveal your reg number even though it may appear invisible on a standard picture.
I wish I could remember where I saw it, there was loads of info. I think it may have something to do with later models of camera that also use light beyond the standard visible spectrum.
Based on what I remember, I wouldn't spend my money on this.
Tim.
I've visited the "processing lab" in Cardiff. They take it as a challenge if the plate is difficult to see, adjusting the contrast/brightness they can make out the number.
You'd be better off taking the plate off, ensuring the contact area where it is fixed remains clean thus you can claim "it must have just fallen off, Officer".
They did some tests on this in Mythbusters on the telebox the other day. None of the sprays or covers they tried could hide the numberplate from speed cameras whilst leaving it visible normally.
I've seen a couple of cars with really strange plates. From a slight angle the plate letters look like they are smudged into a black mess but from directly behind you can read them!? Dunno if it works like these hologrammes you get in cornflakes packets or what?
Of course whilst they won't be picked up by cameras a copper could see that you have a funny plate so will nick you.

Hovi, make sure the spray isn't coloured, or maybe your plate won't be so yellow anymore...
Am with Viney on this. Why is all this subterfuge necessary - you can easily spot a fixed camera and if not then there must be something wrong. Slow down and it won't happen.
