"Oh god, the couriers can't pick up that delivery"
"What, the really urgent one for the licence agreement change?"
"Yes, the one that we had to get to Galashiels by the end of the day"
So I selflessly filled the breach :) Be a courier for the afternoon, flog it down the A7, along to Innerleithen and back up the B709, Bridge Out Road... All the while getting paid, and getting my miles paid for. Oh, it's a hard life...
By the way, they've resurfaced the B709 and B7007 basically from the border between Midlothian and Borders right up through the fast bit until you come off the hills near the A7. The bit between the A7 and the hills is older tarmac but still OK, but the new stuff is absolutely perfect, billiard table smooth, sticky and flawless. Not the fastest road because of the visibility but now you don't need to dodge potholes.
The borders bit's still too narrow for safety- really just one wide lane- and incredibly bumpy. I randomly shook a main fuse loose and all the power cut out :smt120 Fixed in 10 seconds but it was a bit of a shock to go dead in the middle of nowhere... But, you could run down the A7 from Edinburgh, turn off onto the B7007, run down to the edge of the Borders, turn around in the big layby and then come back, nice quick blast... The only bits that aren't curvy are speed trials 8)
