cuz picked up a screw in his rear tyre yesterday and is itching to ride so ive just been ringing around for new rubber for him, he's said this is the perfect opportunity to ditch his stock tyres! ok so he rides in the dry and does around 3k of riding per year so what would be best for him- pilot race, bt014, bt 020, conti road attacks?

Sportec M1s can be had for peanuts just now- not reliably but occasionally, if you know what I mean. I paid £55 for the rear and £40 for the front  I'm a big fan of modern "sports touring" tyres, I'd usually go with Roadtecs or similiar for choice, but at 3k per year it's not such a big deal, so I'd go with something stickier.

I had Pilots on my old 6R and at 2k miles they hadn't worn at all. Still looked like new albeit with the coloured lines scrubbed off.

Seemed good wet or dry.

I found the Dunlops on my SV were not very grippy but I have Dunlop qualifiers on my new bike and they seem really good. Dunno how they will wear though.

This is on my GSXR so not sure how relevant it'll be...

Currently running Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, best tyres I've tried yet, heat quickly, give good feel. Havent tried them in the wet yet though.

Still don't reckon that you can beat Metzler Z6's on a SV though. But if he wants something "Sport" rather than "Sport Touring" then have a look at the Michellin Pilot Power 2CT or the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III.

I dont rate Bridgestones anymore after having some nasty slippy slidy moments on the BT014's also the wear rate on the 014 is terrible.

Out of what I've tried on the SV ( BT020 and Metzler Z6's ) I'd go for the Z6's every time.

Ive broken from my norm of M1's and tried a pair of Avon Vipers on the TT. Not done that many miles on them but they so far seem very good.

I've only used sport touring rubber and the SPortecs, so I can't really recommend tbh... The bike came with Sportecs, then I realised I wasn't using half their grip so I switched to Roadtecs, and since they're ace I've stuck with them since- only got these because they were stupidly cheap. All the sticky tyres these days are ace...

With that mileage I'd go for a sports tyre but if he's not doing track days then I wouldn't go super sticky as they never get to operating temperature.

I've got SportAttacks on my GSXR at the moments, good in wet, warm up quickly and they roll in to corners nicely although not sure I like the profile characteristics on full lean. I really rate the Diablo (not tried the new III yet) as the best all round tyre. I disliked the Avon Viper Supersport but liked the Metz Sportec M1 but not in the wet. Thing is, there's not a bad tyre if you keep to the main makes.

Good choice. I've got them on my Speed Triple (they're what Triumph fit). I strongly suspect that they've saved me from crashing on a couple of occasions where a lesser tyre would have had me off. Their grip - even when cold - is phenomenal. They're definitely far, far better than the 020's that I had on my Ducati - not that the 020 was a bad tyre.
