View Full Version : You and your (loan) bike

500 cc Atlantic. Actually it isnt to bad a ride. Cruises at 80. Rather bumpy old suspension on the country roads. Super quick steering. So easy around town and the city as theres no clutch or gears to mess about with. Only big issue is the screen throws all the air into my head and I get more helmet noise on here than my real bike.
If it was cooler- stealthy and a bit faster with better suspension (and I commuted) I would seriously consider it. I even got nods back from other real bikers :D - but I think they were more stunned that I chav nodded them.
Dont knock it till you tried it.

The best loan bike I ever had was a V-Rod with less than 100 miles on the clock. I was terrified of dropping it and nearly got taken out by a car driver on Hanger Lane roundabout.

Sweet - where did you wangle that from?
What garages do people go to in order to get some decent courtesy bikes? The Atlantic is cool compared to my last three: 55000 miles Honda NTV, 45000 miles 97 Suzuki Bandit 600 and 40000 mile Kawasaki ER5 all from three different garages. I would love to get my bike serviced somewhere that does test rides as courtesy bikes. But Where in the London area?

I used to get the odd nod from other bikers when on my scooter! I think they where confused by a teenager looking person (going by my body size) riding a scooter with almost full leathers (everything bar trousers) and maybe thought "he must have a bike at home, i'll nod back!"
I was once offered a CG125 as a loan bike while my scooter got repaired, but i declined since my insurance was due to run out in three days, and in the end i dropped the insurance claim as me and the other person (who was completly responsible for the accident) settled it mutually. She gave me £100, dad patched it up for a tenner and gave me the rest for uni books. Thats right. Uni books. Not ment for being put towards a guitar. Oh i got an earfull when I rang up saying i brought a new guitar...
But a cg125! i wish i had done it...

Hangar lane is no place for the fearless. I crapped myself the first time as two trucks came shooting by either side :( certainly would be even more scary on a less manouverable bike!!!

I would rate Southern Cross in Kilburn - as a garage for their service quality and price. They are an Aprilia main dealer but arent fussy if you arent Suzuki dealer bound. I was put onto them by Spiderman but have since had loads of peeps on the RSV boards rate them highly - plus a few non-Aprilia owners off the London Bikers site.
Best loan bike I got was a new gixxer 750 when my SV went in for its 4000mile service:p :p :p
Where was that Jdubya?
+1.
Since when do you get a loan bike when yours goes in for a service? I never had one :(
That's a reason for going back to garage/dealership servicing IMO!

Normally its a SV or a Bandit. It depends what I take in. If I take the SV in I get an SV equivalent, but when I've taken the GSXR in I've been given a GSXR 600 as a loan bike
I got an SV1000Z when i took my sv in for its last service
Where was that Jdubya?
That was when the SV went to sturdeys in tonbridge...the other loan bikes were out and I got the use of the demonstrator...

Hmm an Air-head eh, I did wonder.
Obviously Rictus is making a bit of an impression with his "Chav Bike". Maybe I should get Jnr's 'ped out and burn up the neighbourhood :D

I've got a loan bike today, whilst my Speed Triple is in for servicing. Ken, at North City Triumph, told be 'we call this one Jock'. Guess what - a tartan Bonneville  The engine is nicely torquey, if not particularly powerful, but the brakes are pitiful and the seat is bum-numbingly hard.

Took my Zed in for its 4000 mile service last week and got an ER6f - I had a total hoot riding it all day and to be honest I was a little disappointed when I got back on the Zed afterwards - it felt big and heavy!
I think the ER makes a great SV rival! :D

Why does everyone get loan bikes when theirs goes in for a service? I never did!
So unfair!

I insisted on it when I booked my bike in :D
Also I think it helps if you bought you bike from the garage you are getting it serviced at... in my case the Kawasaki main dealer...
to be honest I was a little disappointed
Traitor ;)
Did you not miss the power of the Z?
Traitor ;)
Did you not miss the power of the Z?
There be spies among us! :smt068:razz:
Yes the Zed is quicker but the little parallel twin is a willing little lump and it was more the "flickable-ness" of the ER that I missed than the power...
Still, few miles back on the Zed and it was business as usual :D

Thats an interesting comment - I would have thought the Zed wouldve been easier to man-handle that the ER, being more of an upright position?

The ER has straight bars much like the Zed - dont let that full fairing confuse you!

Got a Silver K3 Nakid - so no need for a picture.
Anyone got longer dogbones they can lend me? I hate sitting on top of a mountain - Ability to see ahead? you can stuff it!
Can someone please tell me the body position to adopt to travel at 130? it's just not enjoyable, although the acceleration is.
Quite a good alarm on it - not too sensitive, provides an indicator left on warning, and the pillion seat storage is alarmed - I'm impressed.
