Afternoon all - I was a **** first thing this morning and somehow missed a gear change, but continued acelerating causing me to redline and lose power. I immediately eased off and changed gear.

The bike seems fine but my question is would this have caused any damage to the bike?

IMO, the limiter is there for a reason.

I've bounced my bike off the limiter in neutral many a time. Even more frequently now than before I had the scorpion exhaust on there. :smt077

If the engine was warmed properly, and has enough oil, chalk it down to experience & forget it (unless you have strange noises to worry about).

I was only a few minutes from home so I'm not too sure if the engine was fully warm, in fact I doubt it would be.

Although the oil is brand new having only just had a service on the bike. It seemed fine for the rest of the journey.

I'll just keep an eye on it tonight.

Theres a limiter there to stop you blowing an engine. Unless you sit on it for minutes, then no damage will be done. I bounce mine of the limiter every day at some point...mainly through the tunnel under london bridge.

She also hit 50000 miles as well today. Should answer your question :)

Yes, it will blow up any minute................:smt100

Now read Viney's post again.

I was always hitting the limit on the SV as the limit is so low. Used to IL4's.

And:-

****s who block junctions, pull out in front of you, block you when filtering, are on the phone. Also when going under bridges and through tunnels, the morning after the neighbours have had an all night party.

How many more reasons do you need :D

not quite hitting the limiter, but changing just before it is to get the most performance out of your bike :) sometimes hit the limiter when not paying attention tho its just part of the fun :smt077

So its ok to do it occasionally then?

I always worry about going over 9k even though the noise is superb. So it won't blow my engine up or damage it if I rev it a bit?

providing the engine is warm ish and the oil level is right and ur not wheeling at the time...

no it will be fine, i used to go throug the gears to the limiter every day never a single problem...
