View Full Version : I found a top copper tonight!
On the way home tonight, came onto the A55. Merrily chugging away in the sunshine, holding 5k RPM, doing just under 70mph. Not a care in the world.
Slowly my speed picks up a little. I'm so relaxed here that I'm riding with my left elbow resting on the tank. Then I see a panda car in my mirror. Right, game time.
He comes past me, and pulls into the left lane, and we carry on this merry little dance for a fair few miles. As soon as he passed me I looked at the plate to see if it was yesterday's officer, it wasn't.
So we're now both doing about 80-85mph, I'm keeping a safe distance.
Coming up to the 50mph zone Colwyn Bay, he slows to about 60. So I move to go past (still in a 70 zone). Then I hear the siren, so I look left assuming he's going to hit the gas & shoot off. That's when I see he's got his window down.
"Slow it down passing the Bay bud, speed trap on the on-ramp! ;)"
I did exactly as he said, and sure enough, there was the V70 parked out of sight.
See, they're not all :toss: Top bloke

:
your starting to push your luck with the police
it will all end in tears......
Maybe so hovis.
Like I said in the other thread, acceptable risk. If they can speed when not on a call, so can I.
If I get points/fine for it, I get points/fine.
It wasn't that long ago that Jen got points & a fine for speeding in the car. 36mph in a 30zone (I posted about it on the org). I sent off the letter saying that the NIP was overdue so couldn't be acted on. They replied saying that they were going ahead anyway. My reaction? Ah stuff it, isn't worth the hassle, pay up.
Take the rough with the smooth.

he's just telling you to slow down, there should be more of this, less of the catching folk out, and more concentration on the actual road saftey.
then again, Baph, you need to stop playing with the cops, you're eventually gonna get yourself in big poo poo, they aint all that nice as you well know from yesterday.

In all honesty, I don't see it as playing, just me being me. When I'm playing I'm far more cheeky.
Maybe I have that complex, what's it's name? The one about the big red button marked "DO NOT P..." Too late...

brilliant! i've got no faith in the police, but i'm glad there's a few out there willing to use their discretion on crimes that are so insignificant. Speeding tickets and exhaust warrants are easy pickings...
Change of heart getting2dizzy? ;)
Nice to hear North Wales Police aren't all evil vindictive Nazis. :)
And what the hell is an exhaust warrant?
Nice to hear.
When I was a cheeky youngster my boss would always say "Don't push your luck" Right or wrong doesn't always matter.
I know you don't regard it as a game but I can't think of another way of describing it - but think its a game I'll pass on. I used to have the attitude that ok I'll 3 points if I get caught speeding plus a fine, worth it as still got room on licence for a mistake in between. then my wife got 9 points over a period of a few weeks and had no idea until the letters started to roll through. No slack then for 3 years!! I reconsidered my attitude! Speed? Oh yes, but not when the risk is blatantly obvious like a camera or cop car. Acceptable risk? Nah, there are so many opportunities to blast as there are few cop cars about!
I must be getting old...
All I can say is good luck with it, Baph. It ain't fair, I think someone is shining on you at the moment (except when you go round corners :D )!
But to all you new/young riders out there with years of fun ahead ... think carefully, wrong miscalculation in this particular game and you could be without your new toy for sometime - gutted? I would be.:D

i will still overtake the police at 80mph on the motorway.
everyone gets so worried and slows down it gets dangerouse. so i will pass....calmly and safely. they never bother me about it! infact they stay behind for 1 or 2 minites then overtake me and bog off.

I've overtaken traffic cops as they are doing dead on 70 but if they were doing 90 I would not follow suit (until they were well out of dodge). That said on the way back from Supervoxes BBQ I saw an unmarked ZX10 doing 95. He had a Met police helmet and high vis jacket on.:o I was quite happy to follow him doing 90.
If you lot slow down I might have a chance to finally keep up ;)

Whats the time limit? I've just got one that could see me reach the dreaded 12 points!

peppipo.com (google it).
14days from offence to receipt of NIP is allowed, no more.
However, I wrote back saying "blah blah you took 36days, but the law only allows 14days blah blah"... quoted the law etc as well (I still have a copy - drop me a PM & I'll forward it on).
They replied "Sorry, but this department doesn't engage in litgation, if you wish to take this point, we assume you want to stand up in court & argue it. We sent the NIP to the registered keeper on this date."
Now technically I could of taken it to court, but she has a clean licence (until then), and it's only 3 points. No big deal really, and not worth the hassle of risking a fine as well just to keep a clean licence. Then there's court costs to throw in, and the time for it all.
Yes, it was probably a scare tactic used by them to get people to cave in, but IMO, just not worth it to persue.

always worth persuing!
scare tactics are exactly what it was.
a copper tried it on with me.....took it to court
when he saw me he said "didnt think it would get this far mate, you do realise all i have to prove is that you were speeding?"
i replied "so prove it!"
no points and no fine!
if the law says it HAS to be done within 14 days....then it HAS to be done in 14 days.

socommk23, the second sentence there, yes, I know.
As for the first one. Well. Jen only drives a 2.0l Ford Galaxy, for which the insurance is peanuts, mainly as she only ever drives it with the kids in the car. Now, I'm not particularly happy about it, but she speeds pretty much constantly.
To remedy her speeding in a 2tonne car (think about that rear ending someone!), a while back, I started teaching the kids about speed, road signs & how to read the car speedo (whilst I was driving). The result of this is that the kids started nagging her about her driving. Some might say it's not nice to use the kids like that, but at the end of the day, if they liked being driven everywhere so fast, they wouldn't nag her about it. All I did was to explain the law, and how to read signs/speedo.
The time she was caught speeding, the kids weren't with her. I was following on the bike. I'd seen the speed trap, but there was no way in hell I was going to flash my lights to tell her to slow down & risk me being pulled for it.
Three points won't really affect her insurance, since most insurance companies don't bother if you only have 3 points. I even called the insurance company, and they said it'd go up a whopping... wait for it... £25/yr. Wohoo!
£60 fine? Painful but not the end of the world. She was caught speeding, it comes out of her account. Might teach her a lesson in observation.
Now, given that 3points & £60 has such a minimal affect on our lives, and that because of the kids, most of the time she can't speed or she gets ear ache, is taking the matter to court really worth all the hassle & time?
I know how I feel about it, so told her that if she wanted to fight it, she was on her own. I'll look after the kids whilst she's talking to legal beagles. She soon saw my point of view.
