Hopefully picking her up this evening and I'm one happy puppy :D :D

Got her on eBay after very nearly having the chance to get my hands on a speed triple (but got shafted by the guy selling it at the last minute :toss: ) ....big thanks to Mark (Rictus01) for all the advice given on that front, this bike will tide me over until I can get my hands on another.

So, next step is to convince the girlfriend to take me to Biggleswade later on, and also to sort out my AA breakdown cover

If I get her tonight I'll be up at the Ace cafe with a big cheesy grin on my face! Woohoo!!!!!

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks guys, and yep, it's the one with the S4 bodywork :D

Well, my excitement got the better of me so I guess the Ace is off :smt022 Deposit is all paid though so it's mine for sure. It's on a sorn though but I'm getting it insured today and going to pick it up in the morning and ride it back very safely ;) (am I being really stupid doing this?) As it stands I need to get the V5 before France on Saturday so I'll be begging the DVLA to get it back to me in time [-o<

Has anyone else had experience of re-taxing bikes off SORNs?

Cheers,

Paul

Any probs with the V5, you can arrange to pick it up from the DVLA place in Stanmore (I had a similar issue going to France when the dealer 'forgot' to register my K3, although it had come taxed). We never got asked to produce ours on any trips, but worth having.

Sweeeeeeeeeet. Had I been down in the city (I normally am at the weekend) I would have to come to the Ace to see that in the metal.

Hey hey, nice one Paul!!!

Me and Jen were down at the ace for some brunch and i did hope you may show up at some point. But hey you know where i am if you fancy a blast some evening this week. You know, to get familiarised with it before we're off to Fance.

I've retaxed off SORN with no problems at all just wandered into the Post Office with the insurance, MOT, application form and cash.

Thing is the bike's not registered in my name so that would slow things down. I've been told though I can inform them of the change of keeper over the phone and collect a V5 from a local DVLA office.......don't you just like red tape!! :smt067 :D

Zig, you'll be getting a call real soon ;)

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for that Debs......I'm tempted to go to France without the V5 armed with a receipt of sale, but I think the tax is a bit more necessary :smt088

Hmm, of course what you could do is give the person you're buying it from the tax dosh, march them down to the post office with the SORN, get them to buy the tax, and...

... hang on that doesn't work cos of the insurance, does it? Or do you just have to prove the bike is insured and MOT'd? (in anyone's name).

You can actually do it with the change of keeper bit of the V5 , MOT and cover note, just did it with the scoot, no problem.

You know my views on them Paul, but glade your happy, looks pretty though.

Cheers Mark.

Yep, took them into consideration mate.......still want a trumpet but this will do for now :D

Do I still get the new keeper suppliment if the bike is sorn?

Trying to think of different ways to get this thing back to London legally

He's unlikely to have insurance on the bike if it's sorn, however if you take a cover note, get the MOT off the guy and just write in the change of keeper part of the V5, then you can walk into a local post office and get a tax disc there and then.

Picking the bike up after hours maybe an issue though...

Not a problem.....got the day off, but of course I haven't got a cover note for the new bike yet, although it will be going on the same policy.

Coming back to the V5, he mentioned that I don't get the new keeper bit because the bike is sorn and he needs to send the whole document back to the DVLA (he wasn't too sure about this mind you)....doesn't sound right to me.

I'm looking at hiring a van, but of course the bike will be flapping around in the back and it'll probably cost a bomb.

I'm 99.9% sure you should get the receipt section of the V5 when you hand over the cash, whether the bike's SORNed or not - it's your only legal proof that you now own the bike!

My understanding from talking to the DVLA about something similar the other day is that you can use this portion of the V5 to get a tax disc if you haven't received the full V5 document in your name yet. May be worth calling them to be sure on exactly what you need to do though.

Re picking it up in a van - don't forget tie down straps and a ramp - I know of several people who have done this before!

A sorn declaration applies specifically to the vehicle as owned by the registered keeper who declared it,and kept at the address specified on the declaration. When the vehicle is sold the sorn becomes invalid, and the new owner must either tax it or take out a new sorn. The registration document should be filled out as normal ,as the sorn is not relevant to the transfer of the vehicle.
In short, you buy the bike, and it does not matter to you if it has been sorned, but you need the registration document to be in order(as with any sale)and it becomes your responsibility to tax it from the date you buy it.

Excellent, thanks guys (and Ness ;) ) for the information.......sounds like all I need then is to wait for my insurance to send the cover note and I'll be able to get tax easy peasy......might even get them to courier it over....hmmmm.......

Game on :D
