View Full Version : Alarming new trend!!

Ladies, Gentleman, Grinch & Scoobs, i seem to be witnessing an alarming new trend in the biking world. One that will shock many, but may not surprise some. I see this act of sheer stupidity occuring more often on my daily commute. Although not dangerous, i still think its rising popularity will bring biking a bad name. I have thought of the implications of it, and i think its quite shocking. I witnessed at least 5, yes 5 instances of it this morning alone. However, i think with a lot of hard work and rallying around from fellow supporters, i think we can stop this totaly pointless and shocking thing from happening, or at least stunt its popularity. What is this heanious scary shocking thing for that i am typing this?

SV's with Top Boxes....DONT DO IT. I Dont care what reason you have, they look crap, get a tail pack ok!

So please do the decent thing, say no to top boxes on SV's. If you have one, then there will be a support group run by myself and Jonboy at the AE07.

All we want you to say is 'Hi, i'm <say name> and i have a top box.

And when you do so, it is wise to be wearing your leathers and helmet. We do aim to be a supportive network of friends, but we also aim for the soft, vulnerable parts. Sometimes instincts are stronger than intentions...

A topbox is a little more secure [as in leaving stuff on the bike] than a tailpack and very useful. While others walk around with their gear I can carry change of clothes and lock my gear away a little more securely than in a tailpack. And it sat more securely on the bike too... but then I have bad history with bungees :(

Oh and I can do far more shopping too... cos at Xmas, I have the top box, tailpack, panniers, tank bag and rucksack for the xmas shop. Who says you cant carry loads on bikes? :p :smt003

Lyn,

I think you have a very limited time to sort out gap insurance, like just a couple of weeks, because after that, the bike is considered "used", if you see what I mean.

90 - 120 days on some policies Im looking at online. Dealer policy was £395. The online RTI insurance for bikes with a couple companies is around the £150 mark for the 3 years. But its definitely being done asap ie today ie now

454697819
25-04-07, 10:07 AM
it insures the short fall in a payout between the write off value and the new bike cost should the bike be written off early in its life.

So Buy for 5k,

written off at 3 months old

payout = £4500

gap ins covers the extra 500 to buy a new one again

£125 for 3 years with axa via surfandprotect. Though had to provide the car2cover quote to get their match and provide evidence they do actually cover bikes.

But yes the gap insurance works on principle that most insurers tend to depreciate by 15% pa on average. So the CBF would get a value at less than Ive paid for it/financed it. If anything happens, the shortfall between the insurance value and the invoice [I have return to invoice rather than the finance gap] will be paid to me. Makes sense to me that for less than £50 per year Im covered for that difference during the lifetime of the finance at least.

Matt, see your other thread, buy me a Vyrus & I'll put a top box on it to see what it looks like.

What did you do with the captured cbr600?
