Because im thinking of getting a car again!!!
last year i made the decision to get rid of my car, and ive managed to get through a whole year with only needing to borrow a car about 3 times, and i was totaly fine with that.
But with the rain weve had its brought all the diesel up out of the road and no joke its ALL the way to work, and making me feel quiet uneasy on my Daytona.
Ive found myself wishing i was traveling to work by car, and i really dont want to go out on my bike when its wet, is there somthing the matter with me?
You are being sensible??
I mean I'm not a fairy weather rider but what is the point playing it mucho and going out and half a mile down the rode you slip on diesel?
I prefer to have the bike in one piece (and myself as well) and go around in a car when the weather is bad.

manchester is just a joke. theres foot wide spills of diesel for miles!just make sure you're buying a car 'aswell'
What you have there is a pretty mild case of Kwakitis!
If you find you can't put the autosol tube down, then you really need help urgently.

Hmmm, managed about 15 year without one, every ride no matter what presents it's own challanges, that's part of the fun, but if that's what you want, then do it.
Personally, even the prospect of driving I find defeatest, although the wife offered to buy me a new automatic car, even with my current limitations I went for a scooter instead, but then perhaps that just shows I'm the mad one, which will come as no surprise to anybody.
Cheers Mark.

Roads are always slippery after a dry period with no rain, it'll pass. Its just part of biking.
YES! ;) opps sorry I then read the rest of your post ;)
It all depends what your personal needs are. I need a car for work but I also like cars and enjoy driving but not as much as biking. The bike is a toy/hobby which I love.
It would have been a nighmare collecting my stone paving from Burford, or bags of cement from B&Q on the tona, not to mention the 'weekly' supermarket run!! How do you guys pick up your 24 pack of Stella or Nukey Brown? Nooooo a car is essential!!:p
cars....hmmmmm, Cup holders.....!
Well i for one would not be without car or bike myself as there is too much stuff a bike cant do!

i need both.
I get round it by making sure MrsApe has a car. Simple.

I recently got rid of my car (not by choice, it was kaput!) and started using the bike for everything. I thought i was going to miss the car loads but i've been really enjoying using the bike to commute etc.
It's even better for my health - I now walk to friend's houses and the shops etc whereas before I would have made the 5 min drive to those places. If I need anything big picking up like bags of cement then friends & family have so far been happy to help in return for a few beers or other general bribery

Pff, you've not been 15 years without a car, just so happens it's not you driving ;)
Buy a rickly old Bandit 1200, then you can go to work on the back wheel with a smile on your face and you won't even have to wash it. Oh, and sit up bikes are fun on diesel, i know.

every other shift on the ambulance you had to, so I do drive, just don't and haven't owned a car in 15 years.
I could probably do without having my own car.
Mrs Tricky has a decent little runabout which I'm insured on.
Fact is I like my car. I don't actually use it very often and it spends most of its time sat on the drive. I've thought about selling it a few times but just can't bring myself to do it.
When I do drive it I really enjoy it. I leave for work quite early so there is very rarley much traffic. It's nice to have the choice but is a fecking expensive luxury.
I also have a car which Mrs Bignev uses on a daily basis for work. I hardly ever drive it now and find it a pain now when I have to. It's sooooooo slow.
The daily commute into Belfast is like diesel alley but I've sort of got used to it. It still gets me nervous but my knees don't ache as much from squeezing the tank as they used too. I've only had the bike on the road from October so up to now I've only had wet weather riding that's why I'm enjoying myself so much now.

I was looking at that link you sent me on MSN baph, to the valve clearences thing. And wondered if kwak would autosol his engine innards to a shine aswell..
..but then i thought, that'd be a step to far, even for kwak...surely?

I haven't got my car license yet 'cos I'm a lazy git but there's no doubt that having one can come in handy, so I wouldn't feel too ashamed about it...depending on the car :D
Last time I wished I was in a car I was riding from Durham-south of Exeter just before Christmas on the worst night of those 3-4 days of awful fog nationwide. I was late leaving, didn't get out of Durham til 1.30PM and only around Nottingham did I realise that in my hurry I forgot my clear visor...riding through bugger all visibility with no feeling, a dark visor and having to follow a car closely cos the rear lights were the only way to help me see which way the road was going is not fun. Worst 10 hour journey I've had to do, including arriving 5 mins after a 5 fatality crach at Bristol. :smt086
Also used to have to reheat my hands in the rubber molding units at the rubber factory I worked in when I was 18! No reason to risk you/the bike in weeks of crappy weather ;)
