so bikes now in the garage for a bit as after friday.. Im el'skintos with a capital S
well, not skint as such, but wont be spending my money on petrol :(

worst happens, bike will be going.. for all of £2.50....

careful owner, cleaned regularly.. taken apart as much so...

Bugger indeed. Time to join up or something?

valleyboy
24-04-07, 08:48 PM
Well, I kinda been working as a builder for him since well, when I was in school.... well, on and off anyway, so this is kind a kick in the teeth, though in some ways also a blessing....

how many electrical and electronic engineers you know working as general builders ? :o tim eto find a job to use me qualifications in I suppose..... though I would have rather have gone from one job to another rather than run around in between....

Just not very happy at his whole 'ohh the comapny isnt doing so good thing' hes been spouting out at the rest of us.... as those of us with half a brain know its all balls.... annoying more like.

sarah
24-04-07, 08:51 PM
that sucks :(

hope you find a new job soon.

valleyboy

Bad news dude.

But see it as an opportunity to do something different. Hows that other application going?

valleyboy
24-04-07, 09:11 PM
even if I finished off that application now.. it wont get processed quick enough to help me right now..... its like writing a god damned book! why do they want to know my great grandfathers best friend while he was at school!?!
So I need a job asap.. not in McDonalds though... I'll get sacked for either eating the stock.... or putting a sledge hammer through whatever keeps on beeping back there while Im waiting in the queue!

putting an application in now for a job on monster.co.uk... which Im qualified to do... heck, soldering and reading a multimeter.... I do that on my bike ona daily basis! and it pays more than the PCSO job as well....

Sorry to hear this VB. Might be time to get 'just any job' in the short term to get some cash and then to consider retraining part time to get another better job. Good luck!

Sounds like an excuse for the South West lot to come and buy you a drink...

If you want to pass me your CV I can put it in front of a few people from an IT Desktop Services perspective.

valleyboy
25-04-07, 06:32 AM
Cheers Alex, still re-doing my CV at the moment.... was busy trying to make a CV on monster.co.uk last night... so applied for one job on there eventualy.. tried editing it a few times and it was having none of it! lol

Im not overly keen on going back to edumacate myself at this point, I spent enough time in Uni for various reasons.. plus it would have to be something Im keen on doing...

I liked Electronics when I started in Uni.. but some sod pulled the bottom out of that industry in South Wales in my time in Uni, where even my mate with a BEng struggled to get a job at one point...... Ive always been a dabbler with computers though.. if it aint broken, then I aint taken it apart enough yet! :D

Keep an eye on the jobs page at www.bris.ac.uk (http://www.bris.ac.uk). Often lots of intersting vacancies in electronics workshops, building services, all kinds of things. Its a bit lean this week, mind you. Check weekly. Probably worth checking the Welsh side unis as well. You would be surprised what interesting jobs come up as they are huge organisations and the working environments tend to be good even if the pay a little less so.

Thats bad news VB, but I hope that it turns out to be fortunate.

Following on from Rich you could try our lot.

Make sure you apply for every benefit you can! Don't be rash and sell the bike unless you are forced to.

At bare minimum get yourself on temping agency books.

Sorry to hear this mate, don't go doing anything stupid like selling the bike, i was contemplating selling mine a couple of months back due to different circumstances, but in the end i kept it...circumstances haven't changed but i'd rather be homeless with a bike to play on than homeless, bikeles n bored ****less :D
You'll find something, things happen for a reason mate, it's probably the kick up the ar5e you need.
Good luck!:D

Sorry to hear the news VB, and hope you get a new job sorted asap. Have heard nothing but good about monster, so hope you can get things going on there.

All the best mate, and don't sell the bike! Maybe the SW lot can give you petrol instead of drinks?!?! Hmm, tough choice!

Right, in the event that he doesnt cough up redundancy money, does anyone know what my options are ?
Ive worked out what Im owed, plus also after reading, hes only given me a weeks notice, whereas under employment law Im entitled to a week for every year Ive worked here.... so I think Im entitled for that money as well, and any unused holiday pay ?
I'll bring the subject up with him, but am not willing to lay down on this...

Im certain he'll try and wriggle out of paying me redundancy... so just want to know what I can threaten him with without bringing the tax man into it really.... can I take him to the small claims court over redundancy money ? things do get complicated as my pay wasnt all done through the books as it were..... but Im going to fight for that lot as well...

you know.. it goes from worse to worse.....

im being made redundant for downsizing due to the company struggling....

just had a call off my boss to do a few things in the office (like hell am I doing them) and his wife wants to speak to him after Ive finished...

she promptly takes the phone off me and goes on about how shees been to swansea and seen the brand new caravan she would like to buy.....

guess where the money is coming from... Im being made redundant, and she harps on about this caravan while standing next to me....... and I know full well where the money for this caravan is coming from :smt013 and it aint from their hard earned savings.......

valleyboy
27-04-07, 04:37 PM
Well, I left him a note on his desk last night before leaving about what I am entitled too.....

had a few missed phone calls on my mobile after that.. lol

glad I didnt answer those ones
He was perfectly fine about the points I brought up on the note in the morning, just not when he first read it!...
He hasnt read employment law in some time and didnt think I was entitled to a pay out.. so Im glad I pointed that out to him, as otherwise I was only going to get the week owed to me...

so I will get a payout, not as much as I was hoping for, and just about what Im legaly entitled to.......... which is fine by me... better than the bugger all I thought I was going to get originaly!

Just a thought. You say you've been building off and on since school. Why not work for yourself? A few jobs done well will soon spread the word and you'll be laughing. My brother in law did it last year and now cant cope with demand. He didn't have any qualifications only common sense, was a slaughterman previously.
BONUS side.....your boss will be lovely :D

Sadly, I know the hassles of working for ones self.. as I basicaly did all the paper work for my now previous employer...
It was a thought that I had, but I have decided to try and get back to Electronics or Electrical work, or possibly IT in some shape or form....
Am now considering other options... including, and not limited to admin and clerical stuffs... a jobs a job as they say...

sadly, I have too many ideas of what I could do.... I need to narrow them down a lot!

...or the bike ;)

Just kidding mate.

I'll keep an ear out for you if anything turns up I'll let you know. Have you thought about working in a bike shop as a mech? You've certainly got some experience working on the great green velocepede.

valleyboy
08-05-07, 10:01 PM
I have considered that as an option.. but who wants to take on a 27 year old apprentice!? lol I may be better than your standard apprentice grease monkey as in I know how to take my bike appart... lol and more importantly.. put it back together correctly...
its something I can discuss with the Job Seeker peoples on Friday...

to be honest, I wish I had done somehting other than Electronics in University now.... as said, possibly mechanics or simular... or material studies... as my mate recons I would have been better at it than him.. and hes just got himself a Phd in the bloody thing... looking at jet engine blades and seeing what happens when they go pop!

and on that note, I have been avoiding my depression today by stripping my spare engine head... lol sadly I have to do impressions of Indiana Jones to get into my garage at the moment as the door has broken.. and cant be opened past a certain point... so its down on all fours and roll under it at the moment...

though the bike shop mechanic would be my no1 aim if I could do it.... and I would give up the lovely roads around here to do it in another part of the country if required....

I've had to retrain a few times over the years, importantly I've tried to do it during a change of job and have done it part time. Very heavy going but worth it in the long run.

It's not easy to consider going back into education after you thought it was all done and dusted but I look at it as a means to an end.

Don't feel that your to old to learn either. I did a part time masters over four years in a subject that is now being out sourced to low cost centers but it provided a stepping stone to other things. I'm in the process of re-qualifying again now just in case at my grand old age. My experience in my current job is not (yet) enough to walk into another good job.

Good luck!

I sometimes have to do that to. But I'm yet to have a broken garage door...

Job wise I would advise against IT and retail work. Swansea do a Motorcycle Motorsport Engineering course (I found out 5 years to late) if you want to become a dirty lazy student again.

valleyboy
08-05-07, 10:29 PM
I know about that course.. as a while ago my mate and I were discussing this.. ( he now works at swansea uni) when they started the course they couldnt find people to teach it.. so were at one point willing to grab anyone that knew anything about bikes to teach the students...
