After my post about shall i fit a race can or not, i decided to go ahead and rub the "not for road use" off the can as it would ease my conciance, fit it to see if it was that that could cure the flat spot...
so for the first time in 6 yrs of riding i fitted a race can.... within a week i have been fined £30 for having a no e marked can fitted.....
aghhhh feck it....
they were pulling all the bikes over at shurburn to checked them all, i got fined, a tuono that goodness knows how he got of as it was fooking loud but had an "e mark" same with a harley that destroyed the peace as it ****ed off into the distance.... oh and as they were booking me a ducati came past dipping its clutch...
Any way whinge over, i broke the law iv been fined,.,,,,thats me taught
:-s
ebay do e marked stickers(i will look for link as i want one )
what size plate u got?
Very unlucky. You could get one of the rivet on plates with the e mark stamped in it.

Worrying; My can is road legal, but it has no e-mark on it (not that I can find anyway). It dosnt have, nor did it ever have, "not for road use" stamped anywhere - this bike has passed MOTs with the current aftermarket exhaust on. The guy i brought it off (a copper himself) said the police will always take it as an illegal can, not having the e-stamp, and MOT stations are more than likley to let it pass, as it dosnt say "not for road use"

found it ..... a bit spicey @ £6 thet were £3 b4 but cant find that one

I got pulled last year in Sherburn, got off though as my can has an e mark. Didn't have the baffles in though thus making it illegal, but they didn't seem to understand that and I wasn't about to point it out!

sod's law! At least you take it like a man, and now statistically you can probably razz it around with a loud illegal can and not get done for a while :)

Maybe it was a construction thing ???
Most race cans I have heard of are either,
Carbony,
Titaniumy,
or
Stainlessy
Would have thought an Iron can would have been a bit on the heavy side :)
Sorry to hear, but you knew the risks and took em, which is your right to do and in no ways a "told you so" thing. Besides I am sure that the enjoyment of the can is worth £30 :)

Don't you know that there's a law saying that Harleys must have loud pipes. If he'd had the stock ones on, they'd probably have fined him :)
Bad luck. This is why e-marked cans with removable baffles are the way to go.

When I was stopped they had a prod around, then radioed into the station where they obviously had someone sat on the net looking things up. Came back telling them that Blue Flame cans that have "Evo" on them should have an e mark, and that they are road legal race cans. End of. Result.

Highlights the annoying difference between C&U and the MOT, that does
Unlucky numbers.
You want irony though?
I've been stopped countless times for "spot check on your vehicle sir" before I fitted the scorpion (road legal, e-marked, no baffles).
Since fitting it, I've been tugged twice. Both times they saw the e-marking & dropped it like a hot potato :D

If that was me I would have been as rude and obnoxious as I possibly could. It's all a load of ********, a Harley with stock pipes is so much louder than any bike I've ever owned with a race can and I would have told them so. In fact I have in the past and it felt great (although I still got £30 fine).

thats 3 weeks in a row theybe been hanging round squires. mines emarked and baffle less, and very loud, but theyve looked at the emark and let me go, the noise is subjective, if the cans emarked, baffles or not its legal, if they want to argue the point then they can take me to court, i told them that mine had a db killer at the connecting end of the pipe and he wouldnt see it just by looking down the pipe.
ive never yet seen an accident caused by a loud pipe, but were crims none the less................

My November ones were - Burgled, Car Broken into, Motor Bike stolen. Found the bike - Muppets never worked out how to start it (coutesy of my bodged starter switch replacement) and performed the shoddiest bit of lock drilling I've ever seen - was a job turning it on with a screwdriver:toss:

Just a point, there's a road legal noise limit IIRC, EU directive 92/97 covers this, but it might only apply to cars, not bikes. I know bikes have a limit.
If you really want to fight it in court, your bike will be tested as per the EU directives on noise.
The test for this consists of driving along a set road, at a set speed, then opnening the throttle fully. A microphone is placed at a set distance from the line of travel.
Blag it yes, but don't push it, it'll come back to bite you on the rear if you do.
Having said that it's nice that important things like loud Pipes are being dealt with. Makes me feel better about that fact that Hounslow couldn't be bothered to turn up to our break in.....
ok derail really is over now.....

'Twas interesting to hear the recently retired traffic plods attitude to cans / visors / iridium screens last weekend. Having any of those things marked you as a 'boy racer' in his book, since having those things would egg you on to do silly stuff. :toss: And this is from a biker! so the attitude seemed to be, 'you must be a naughty boy, even if I can't prove it, so have a fixed penalty'
On the flip side, some of the statistics for crashes and the photos of the crashes were pretty eye opening. If that is what these guys have to deal with, then no wonder they get worked up about 'boy racer riders'.
Hopefully my riding and attitude changed his perception a little.
