Like a lot of you on here, got tickets to the Metallica gig in July (although a little concerned that it is the day after the live earth concert :smt017 )

Anyway, does anyone know when the elusive new album is due to be released? All I can find is 2007.........sometime! Any advance on this?

By the way, heard a couple of tracks from the new Megadeth album due
on 14th May. They sound on form. :smt045

Why are you asking Metal fans about a Metallica concert????

Maybe 10 or so years ago.............

Should be called Poplica these days......

My son has tickets to some "gig" this weekend, starts tonight and goes on until Sunday evening. I expect it'll be "Bullet for my Valentine", "Funeral for a friend" or some other bands with names that us parents find rather confusing....

I do like rock music, but probably not as the younger generation know it. Although I can be tempted to listen to a bit of "Cake" from time to time.

Seems that they may have realised the error of their ways.

There is no release date for the album as yet. There are rumors that they are still finalising the playlist at the moment with possible re-record of some stuff knocke off other albums. (damn I love my job!)

Not sure if I want to pay £22 to see Megadeth perform again. Mustaine sounds like Mickey mouse when he sings live and I don't think they've had a good album in the past 15 years. That's just my opinion though ;)

Never really got into metallica or megadeth myself, I'm more into industrial and gothic metal...

Would defo love to see Rage ATM reform permanently, none of this "one off reform for a couple of gigs" milarky... I'm sure the current politcal situation would give them enough tunes for a new album...

See at 45, I have went from Punk (original 70's) and then into the Jazz-Funk era of the late 70's early 80's followed by mellow Jazz later in life. I still enjoy listening to some rock, but I draw a line when there is nothing melodic in the "music", and the lead "singer" is doing nothing but shouting down a microphone.

Yes, I'm old, but I have standards :)

I'd like to see metallica, but I doubt I'd see them at wembley this year. Megadeth are great, Mustaine dosn't sound like mickey mouse! I have their live DVD, very good it is.

One band I'd love to see is Symphony X, who are planning to come to europe this year, but if that includes the UK I dont know yet.

I'd also like to see steve vai playing, although I have gone off his music latley...

And to go to a children of bodom concert would kick ass, but I dont think I have the guts...

Las time I saw Metallica was at the download festival in glasgow 2004, and it was amazing (from what I can remember!) They said they would be back on there next tour but nope no scottish date:( Pretty much anything before the black album gets my :smt023

One another note went to see iron maiden just before christmas (I think) and it was awful. Only tickets we could get were up at the back of the seats off to the side, we could hardley see the stage! Just add another downer to the night the main gig was there entire new album and only the encor was a couple of there classic (wich was rubbish as I didnt like there new album) Also Bruce stopped the gig about half an hour into it to tell the people standing to take a step back as there kids down the front getting squashed!

Metallica died for me after Master of puppets but that last one was good. (downloaded for nothing of course)

That was great, eh? We managed to get into the front bit, I could've wee'd on Lars if I'd felt the urge. Very nearly did. Terribly run event, mind, no need at all for the segregation since so few folk actually turned up, but they didn't have the wits to adapt to the situation... Still, I got in, because I'd been burned by the same farce at Donington the year before. Not often you get this close to Metallica these days:

Say what you like about the new albums- and I reckon S&M's utter genius- but they're still great live.

Bullet For My Valentine, incidentally, are what you get if you take a Metallica and Machine Head covers band and ban them from playing any covers. Dismal stuff, fairly skilled but no imagination or inspiration at all, just a bunch of walking cliches. IMO :)

Damn right. Awesome music, the S&M stuff. I wish they had done Fade To Black with it though, the orchestra really could had added something to that song to take it from incredible to amazing.

I'm gonna have to watch my metallica DVD's when I get home; Binge and Purge is awesome, I love the 1989 concert, specialy when they did Master of Puppetz.

R.I.P! :(

In my honest opinion music is going further and further downhill these days, with every generic indie band with the prefix 'The' in their name singing about wearing jeans and new shoes, instead of the good old days when bands sung about guys who had lost most of their senses and use of most of their body. (Name the song).

I love Metallica in all forms especially S&M, I get vaguely aroused whilst listening to it, especially 'One' and 'Battery', simply eargasmic stuff. A mate of mine caught Het's wristband when he flung it out into the crowd. Suffice to say I've fallen out with said mate, lucky *******.

These days I'm more into my Rammstein, though my musical taste varies, I also like The Jam and Children of Bodom, and don't say no to a spot of classical. Reading & Leeds Fest + Download has become a joke in my eyes.

Oh well, least I've got my MP3 player to get me through the day :D

You lucky git getting that close to the front! We were somewhere about the middle edgeing towards the back, a friend of ours showed up with :smt033 so we where all very happy at our wee bit:) Did get to meet bruce dickenson on the 2nd night, he was at the beer tent:thumright: . It was a total farce in fact, not quite as bad as Donington the year before, where they hadn't finished building the site, that was just plain dangerous... But the barrier was a joke, it was practically empty too creating a huge gap. I'd have been raging if we'd not got down the front. (at Donington we didn't get down the front, in fact, but that was OK since most of the bands I wanted to see were in the shed)

I don't think they had much choice about putting it on a week day though, they were juggling the Ireland date too weren't they? The attendance was dismal though, Gig on the Green completely sold out in 2001, 30000 people per day. If they're going to try and do a glasgow festival they should stick it on the same weekend as an english one and rotate the acts, like Leeds/Reading- worked a charm at GotG. And the barrier system they used then saved lives, I've no doubt at all, during Eminem- the barriers they used at Download would probably have made the crushes worse with 30000 people.

Still annoyed about the barriers though :)

We want to let you all know that we have no concerts scheduled in 2007 for anywhere in the UK or Ireland. Any announcement stating otherwise is a mistake. Please do not buy tickets to any of the concerts in the UK or Ireland that may have been announced. We are sorry that somebody has announced shows that are in fact not happening, and we are currently working hard to determine how and why this happened.

Looks like you'll need to settle for The Haunted, Krisiun, Zyklon and Acker****e this month instead...

Um, yeah... They're one of the most succesful rock bands in the world just now. It can't be Iron Maiden, Ozzy and Metallica every year you know... Though actually, looking at the lack of imagination in tehbill, it probably could.

I think MCR are going to get murdered by an idiot crowd, mind, but that's not their fault. Half of the Download headliners in the past have been a joke anyway, Audioslave, Tool, etc. But if the problem's that they're not metal enough, the organisers have been trying to get away from the none-more-metal rep for ages- they had Feeder headlining a stage once after all. You can't make a 3-day metal festival and have it not suck, frankly.

Nah, they're britrock, they just happen to be American. Seriously... More in common with Therapy? and the Wildhearts than with most emo bands. Take "Thank You For The Venom" and slow it down a hint, give it a Belfast accent, and it's a Therapy? song. A pretty good one, too. Same applies to loads of their other stuff. Or take Sister and give it a whiney american accent, and it'd be MCR. And you can't really miss the Queen influences.

I like 'em...

Mastodon's Leviathan album is... fecking.... Godlike.
It rocks very hard. Very hard indeed.
The first three tracks at least on the last one, Blood mountain are fairly stomping, but, I am not sure if the singing is a great idea. Still not a bad album, just not in love with every track.

Can't say I'm a fan of their more recents stuff though- for me it started going downhill after ...And Justice for all (great songs, terrible mix/sound). The Black Album is great, but it's not thrash. He is awesome, he is the only person that saw what Metallica were becoming and thought "screw this, I am not turning into a band that needs rehab". 03-05-07, 11:09 PM
It's pretty hard to be a bass player in a band where the main rhythm guitarist has his amp controls taped to low +10, mid -10, hi +10 and plays at least a half-step lower than usual. James Hetfield himself recognised he was moving into bass territory more often than not, and that wasn't helping the overall sound, so in a bid to try and sort this out he removed the tape from the "mid" control.
