If you had some spare cash - say about 8k (which I will have shortly) - would you keep your beloved SV(S) or go for something new?

At the minute I'm thinking something new but not sure what that something new would be.

The bikes that are taking my interest at the minute are the ER6-F, Z750 or the new GXS750.

What would you do?

*confused*  :-? :smt102 :-k

Buy one of these:

Will still give you a fair whack over at £6.5k new [ABS version] to add extras [like a givi rack for example ;) :p  ]

I love it tbh. Its got a torquey style engine with the power coming on low down the revs like the SV, but its got the ooomph of an IL4 that the SV doesnt have. Makes everything so effortless, hardly any wind buffeting on the motorway, handles superbly. At least go test ride one :D

It feels lighter than the SV though its 50 kilos heavier. But in terms of size, its not actually that big for a litre bike tbh. Highly recommended :D

Stick the rest in an isa. Yeah, I'm dull & practical!

Lol I'm gonna end up wishing I hadn't asked cause I'm gonna end up with a few more bikes in the frame.

ISA would look good only all available spare cash will probably go into a new business venture myself and the missus are thinking about which might also knock the new bike on the head cause I would have no time to ride it lol.

Buy a used GSXR750 SRAD or similar, or buy a motorcross bike, and keep the SV

And the rest of the money, put away and sit on it - you neer know when you might need it!

I think the motorcross bike idea is a good one

I swapped the the SVS for an ER6-F purely for the comfort. Dont buy one if you want to keep the performance you are used to, but if you want something comfy, easy and predictable but not dull(sville) then its a good choice.

Gsxr750

as above;)

The Z750's a really good bike, and costs the same to insure as the SV. The 07 model has had a good review in the latest TWO magazine too...

Thats the same reason I'm looking at en ER6. My wrists are starting to give in on the SV so something more upright is what I need I think. I had also heard that about the ER6's not having as much ooomph so that's why I was considering the Z750.

Don't really think a motocross bike is me lol.

If you got £8K then two er-6:p

I would go for a 1250 Bandit and watch Lynw disappear in the mirrors:smt039 ;)

675 Daytona, and some risers/flat bars for the SV!

KTM Superduke. Proper sports bike suspension and a stonking V-twin but more upright.

The CBF has upright riding position....

Wanna bet? :p

I nearly undertook a CBR6 the other day all be it unintentionally. Muppet needed to go left but was in right hand lane so cut in in front of me. I eased up, he went round corner, I followed thinking he would be cornering at least as fast as me... haha was I wrong...

Seriously, dont underestimate the bigger bikes like the CBF, Fazer or Bandit. Its just the Bandit wasnt really my preferred option given its lack of seat height adjustability compared to the CBF amongst other things.

Want some comparisons? www.bikez.com (http://www.bikez.com) [sorry puts a couple pop ups on screen but not too many if you have blocker on but its a handy site for bike specs]

hey lucky old you getting all that $$$$ :D

whether/what bike you change to depends on what you're after really. tbh i can't see that you'd get a lot out of switching to the bikes you've mentioned, as they don't really deliver a lot more than the SV other than just being a bit different (and less weight on the wrists).

If you've got that sort of cash i'd only bother changing if you want to step it up a notch/go for something really different, e.g. a sports bike for top quality suspension/braking, a supermoto for a real laugh, a big trailie for power and back road performance...

I wouldn't consider the ER6, looks too thin IMO and has the same spec as the SV really. For 8K i'd think of pushing the boat out and get GSXR750 or the CBR600RR for me, atleast then you got plenty to pay for insurance too ;)..Or even better try and order one of the special TT GSXR's that are coming up,, they look well nice and only cost a couple hundred more than the normal ones!!! =P~

I'd wait for a few months and have a good long test ride of the Aprillia Shiver 750, v-twin, about 95bhp, radial brakes, USD forks etc and supposidly £6k

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2007/04/21/nosplit/mfbike21.xml

The benchmark surely for the Shiver - no one could tell us how it got its, um, cool name - is Suzuki's V-twin SV650. While this comfortably beats the Aprilia's estimated £5,600 price, it feels less sophisticated, especially its brakes and suspension, and nowhere near as powerful.

No question, the Italian bike is destined to become a serious contender, and about time for Aprilia.

Morini 9.5 or Griso - stick with a V twin with style and a bit different

buy the gsxr 750. The fact that ur thinkin about it means that theres a little voice in ur head sayin "get it, u know u wana"

I heard the same voice, jst give in, u wont regret it one bit.

Have a look at the 1050 triples from Triumph; Sprint ST or the new Tiger. I run an ST and it's all day comfortable, Edinburgh to Braintree in a day stopping only for fuel for the bike and me.

The bikes that are taking my interest at the minute are the ER6-F, Z750 or the new GXS750.

To be predictable, I'd say lok at a couple of Honda's at least; the new Hornet has to be worth a try, and if you fancy a sports bike, the '07 600RR is meant to be the dogs danglies.. And as Lyn is very keen to point out, the CBF 1000 is very comfortable and capable.

Can't see why you'd look at an ER6, you're not getting anything that your SV gives you really. Somebody mentioned the new Aprilia "Shiver". I must say I am going to get a test on one of those, it combines the lazyness of the v-twin motor with almost 100 brake, which I quite like the sound of.

Make a long list, and try and get it down to 4 or 5 and then go test them. Always keep something different in their, just to try it (last I did this mine was the 1200GS Beamer, which I hated, but at least I tried it).

Good luck...

If you are looking for a more upright ride but fancy keeping to twins tyou might want to check out the Aprilia Tuono.

That GSXRTT looks verrrrrrrrrrrry verrrrrrrrrrrrry tasty.

Sorry it's not for sale at the moment - this is very much in the "thinking about" stage and my fresh cash won't be here for a month or 2 plus I'll be living in England by that stage so not so handy.

Thanks for all the thoughts there guys. It's certainly given me something to think about and a few test rides to book \\:D/

Sounds to me you want something comfortable and practicle - but are swayed by gixers charm. The Z750 would be the pick out of that lot for me with the balance in on a few tasty mods and in the bank.

Why not get two new SV's. One for everyday and one for sunny days only?

Another vote for checking the Aprilia Shiver out when it arrives - 90 odd horse power V-twin 750 sounds very interesting to me

Why an ER6? I saw one for the first time on my way home from work yesterday. What a pig ugly bike. It looked like a deformed scooter (IMO)
I do quite like the idea of a Z750 though.

No unfortunately the bikes at home not going anywhere til Friday :(

600 service is then, Im on 550 miles and the dealers is 60 miles away. Dont trust myself to take it out and keep the mileage reasonable... its one of those you can just keep going all day kind of bikes   Honda dealer says max of 1000 but Ill end up taking it in on around 900  :D

And there is absolutely no way on earth, in this solar system or in the universe I would remotely consider parking a brand new bike in a London bike bay.;)
