I'm off in 4 weeks with a mate to explore the Black Forest and Swiss Alps. Planning out kit and aim is to travel as light as poss. Can't decide between whether to wear my leather trousers (my preference)and bring a pair of thermals and a light waterproofs or to wear my HG Textile trousers.
Did a similar trip couple of years back and wore leathers and were fine although weather wasn't that great - just a little more concerned about the Swiss weather at this time of year.
Definitely wearing the Textile Jacket.
Has anyone done similar and got any advice?
Riding my SVand mate is going on his Multistrada so it's going to be a V twin fest! Can't wait!!! :D

Leathers plus waterproofs is the best choice. You probably won't wear the waterproofs that much but they're also handy as a wind stopper on chilly mornings.

Take a microfleece and thermals just in case - I got caught in wet & rainy weather on the Col du Vars one August and it was bloody cold!

Spare gloves (wet ones are not nice) and take a neck sock - just in case.

Maybe you should have posted this in the Eurotour section ??

Thanks Jelster - the idea of 2 pairs of gloves had crossed my mind - wasn't aware of that forum but will check it out.:)

I'd go with Jelster on the leathers/waterproofs and thermals, my bike tour staples.

Also have a look at http://www.alpineroads.com/ for some inspiration on routes, why not take in the Vosges too, some nice roads across the plain from the black forest.
