First.. on the way up today...two bikes in front of me at a junction...guy in front turning right.Up whizzes this idiot on the bmw, rides past me and then rides straight on cutting infront of the guy turning right. Next...on the way through glendevon, I'm behind this guy who's waiting his chance to overtake. Next thing 1150gs rider horses past us both on a blind left hander scaring the ****e out of us both then sits behind the car the guy in front was waiting to overtake. On the way back from the green welly I'm overtaking a couple of cars on the straight...at the end of the straight there's a queue of cars on a sharp left-right-left up the hill. I slow up then next thing another BMW 1150 overtakes me and 2 cars on the 1st left hander.
Is this a BMW thing?

They think they're invincible perhaps? "The master race"?..................
.........Who knows mate - the cars tend to be the same.............
....Brainless, Moronic, Wonkers.
It could just be that according to figures from last year, the "adventure" bike sector was the fastest growing of all.
Annoying none-the-less since they aren't all like that - honest.
Funnily enough, going through Glendevon on Saturday on the way to Knockhill for the endurance race, we had a Rizla GSXR overtake us in a rather scary place. Glad to say that when we arrived he HAD got there safely along with his TINY one-liner plate.

That's what comes of riding Panzers, you expect to be able to invade other people's territory at will while being immune to damage... Seriously though, yep, just like Harleys and daft italian exotics Beemers seem to attract a load of eejits, I've seen that myself... same sort of people who used to drive Porsches backwards through hedges in the 90s. Funnily enough it's always the 2 beemers that block other bikes in at my work, or park blocking the disabled spaces. But on the other hand, some of the coolest people I've met have been on big daft beemers...

Maybe some think they have something to prove. My mate & encountered one on the way up to Donnington a few weeks ago...
"Must get past the sportsbikes, must get past the sportsbikes...."
I have to say that those on here with the 1200GS show a much better personality (Except that Dr Rich bloke, he's a bit dodgy... ;))

I've a mate with a 1150GS and he's so slow and careful I almost take up smoking again every rideout, just so's I could have a fag to pass the time while waiting at the side of the road for him.
So no, they're not all so inconsiderate or reckless, but the size, and poise of the bike with that front suspension, does lead the foolish into thinking they're invincible.
Watch one on a windy day though, hilarious, they're not so much riding the bike as sailing it!! ;)

Woot, riding in front and not slowing up? Surely not...
Speed up, keep in front. Should solve it. :p

I got brilliantly made a monkey of at Knockhill by a guy on a GS :) It was ace, there I am going round the hairpin, thinking I'm all that, and this big red tractor hurtles up the inside and buggers off over the horizon. Wasn't the only one either... Still, at least he took his touratech cases off first.

So by that logic....
I should overtake two stationary bikes at a junction whilst the one in front is just about to turn right onto a main road then?
I should overtake on blind left handers?
I should speed up should I?
Hmmm....that makes sense.

This might have been something to do with the big BMW meet/rideout from Dundee area, tagged along with a few friends that were going on the run.. first meeting point was up in a small village on the banks of the Tay. Following my mate's Father in law on his GS was hard going up the small glen.. By god they things can go round corners!

No, no. He didn't say get in front, he said keep in front. You just have to get out of bed earlier than them. Simple and safe :smt003

I was only tugging your sporan ;)
But in all seriousness the bikes inspire confidence, perhaps overconfidence. Also typically in this country they are ridden by older gits, so tend to have a lot of experience* so maybe they make different judgement calls. Also your road view is different on those. So its a different experience to riding a sportsbike. On the other hand they could just be nobbers
*not saying your not but you know what I mean.

If you tug my sporran you might get a nasty surprise (nice surprise for a Lady though).;)
I agree with you about inspiring confidence and road view but I was more concerened with them endangering a fellow biker when he's turning right at a junction or endanger me by overtaking on a blind bend then hitting the anchors in front of us.

Er...I was in front and safe! Try and get it into perspective. It was a blind bend FFS. You know the type you can't see round...just like the ones on the Duke's pass. Well he overtook us on such a bend. So do tell Tiger what's simple and safe about what he did compared to what I did???

Ah yes! The sport of those who don't have any decent roads nearby. Any bend is fair game (along with any poor sod around at the time) and high risk = excitement.

My solution, badly presented due to the failing education system, was to keep in front of them by getting out of bed earlier.
You know, you're riding and they're still asleep?
You had to be there :(

Could be possible that the beemer rider had a better view, or observed earlier?
It's very easy to overtake bikes and cars on what appears (to them) to be a blind right hander (or left hander sometimes) when all you've done is observed that there's nothing coming well before the bend, from another angle. i.e. it's blind just before you go into it but you could see the road ahead was clear a long way before that if you'd been looking carefully enough.
Yes they could be nobbers, they could also have been advanced riders looking further ahead than most of us think is possible - a lot of IAM riders favour beemers.
No excuse for overtaking when a biker has a signal on. Possble to do that with cars sometimes, but way too risky with another bike.
As for the overtake, even if you're sitting on the limit, if the person behind thinks you'll be in their way/slowing them down when the road changes furher ahead, you're fair game. I do that to cars and other bikers all the time.

Sveedy mate...it was a blind left hander. There's no way anyone could tell it was clear unless they had x-ray vision on account of the bend being obscured by 17 million tonnes of hillside.
I've drawn it out...see below.

if u believe what bike magazines say...
the Sv650s K3/4 came 33/50 for best cornering bike...
the GS1200 came 3/50 for best cornering bike...
this test was done in ride/bike a year or two ago...
anyways...
with the height of those bikes...
mibi they can see through corners and know its safe to do dogy over takes?

If there's no way the GS rider could have seen ahead then the rider was clearly a nob... if you can't see what's ahead then you can't make a safe decision. Did any of the cars toot or flash him?
I know a senior IAM rider who does similar things though - to watch him, he'll move out on cars when there's no view, but he gets the view by moving out and makes decisions to overtake on the better view. Never on anything as tight or with as restricted a view as what you've drawn, though.
