Been trying to decide which to go for for the past 2 weeks, Now I must choose for tomorrow.
I commute everyday 15-20 miles so need something that will offer good life, but also good for playing on the weekend and the odd track day.

Which would you choose?

Still waiting for some feedback on what Pilot Road 2s are like on track, if ok I'd go for them just for a change! But there is nowt wrong with Stradas.

We've just switched from Diablo's to Pilot Road 2's................and after a 1000 miles can honestly say that we by far and away prefer the Pilot's. Far more confidence inspiring, and so far have handled eveything we've thrown at them without a twitch:D

They have 7mm deep tread, and after 1000 miles that's down to 6mm..............working on the theory that each mm is 1000 miles of use, it already means we'll get far more miles out of the Pilot's than we have out of Diablo's.

It also means that you get slightly less milage from a rear than I do on my Metzler Z6 Roadtecs.

I love throwing spanners :)

Yes, but you ride like a Granny! when they ride 2 up, so their comparison is better :p

It would help to advise if you posted the purchase price of your choices.

I ride like a granny eh? So you're coming to the North Wales ride then? :D

I also get great fuel economy too :)

Z6's, where I have them fitted, are approx £115 rear, £95 front, but £200 for a pair. RiRo, usually with a cuppa & a bit of banter thrown in for good measure ;)

I asked about the pilot 2's when I was last there, and he said it'd be about the same price as the Z6s, but no real feedback on performace yet, so I didn't bother.

Thanks Lissa, this backs up all I've been hearing about them. My only concern has been the life span but from what you say they should be OK.

Only £20 difference between the 2, which only added to my confusion.

If it helps we only get 3,200 miles out of our rear Diablo, so the PR 2's hopefully should bet that.

Yep,
But those are the pilot powers not the pilot roads...slightly different tyres but I'm looking at the 2CT roads as well.

No way in hell would that be a Diablo Strada.

Lissa,

The tyres degrade faster as they wear so the 1mm = 1000miles forecast will not hold true although how quickly it degrads will depend on your riding and how diligent you are with your pressures.

Peter,

No, that wasn't Diablo Strada's, just Diablo's. But all the tests so far indicate that the Road 2's have better mileage than the Strada's, so we can certainly reasonably expect to get more than from the Diablo's.

As for our riding..................spirited best describes it:D .................and we are extremely diligent about tyre pressures, check them before every ride.

I have put about 4000 on my stradas just past mot last month and still have loads of wear left. mind you i don't ride like a Barry Sheene pretender just normal riding

Been using the pilot road 2 for a while now, best sport touring tyre i have used. Wet grip is inspired much better than 020's which i though were good in the rain.

Tire life seems alright at the moment apart from the punture grr.

I htink I got bog standard Diablos on my bike. First 1000 miles I could hardly see any wear, but suddenly over the next 2k they have dissapeared. Ok so it's the middle of the tyre I'm talking about and if I were a better rider maybe I'd wear the sides a bit but even so I'd definately say that wear is non linear with mileage. The Diablo's have been 'ok' (not got much to compare them with) have felt a little slippage of the rear in the wet but I was perhaps provoking them (****ed off at the time). Thinking of getting PR2 now just to try them cos it's "only" about £20 difference on a set and whilst that bothers me compared to the total bill (of near £200) it's small. I plan to keep stats on tread depth regularly on the next set of rubber. I've got to ring my insurer first abotu a mileage extension on the policy though.

I've just had a pair of PR2's fitted to the SV. I'll be doing a write up of the difference between these & the Z6's that I love when I get the chance. Mixed feelings at the moment.

Baph, have you found that they feel like they're dragging you down/pulling the biek into leaning over further when you get to a certain angle of lean?

That's what mine feel like and I can't tell if it's because I got used to my old Z6s being squared off from motorway stuff or whether I'm detecting when I get to the angle where the rubber compound switches from the hard central to soft edge, seeing as they're 2CT.

What tyre pressures are you guys using? Are you going with the 34/36 Michelin recommend?

I wouldn't really say this. I find it feels VERY different to the Z6s, but I wouldn't say that the bike is trying to fall over. Mine more feel like they are a little "floaty." Certainly not as much feedback as the Z6s give, but the PR2s allow you to be harder on the throttle coming out of bends. I've actually just fitted a bullet cam to my bike, and I'm planning to video my route over the Denbigh moors tonight (fast sweeping left hander to have fun in), so I'll post a video & you can compare :)

If you feel like you're being dragged down, your turning circle should be tightening (unless you're not actually being dragged down). Look at the inside of the bend, are you getting closer to it? If you are, a little more throttle should sort you out no end. As above, the PR2s seem better on the throttle than the Z6s did.

I'm waiting until I know what I'm talking about really for the PR2s before I give a detailled opinion. So far I've covered maybe 300miles, but this Saturday I'm going to be down at Bassets Pole for the MIGTs ride. I'm waiting until after this to see what they're like.

What tyre pressures are you guys using? Are you going with the 34/36 Michelin recommend?

Nope, 36/42, same as I was running the Z6s at. After this weekend, I'm going to drop them to 34/36, and then see what they're like.

Does North Wales count as a track? :D

I'll do a proper write up on the PR2s next week (no track use though Tim, unless you're paying :D)

Anyone had any experiences with the pilot power 2ct yet?

Anyone had any experiences with the pilot power 2ct yet?

Yes but not on an SV, only my GSXR.

I thought they were pretty good to be honest, feedback and feel was good, I could tell what the tyres were doing. Gave good grip, and I felt confident enough on them to run right out to the edge of the rear, no chicken strips on either side of the rear tyre.

Lasted pretty well, I had two rears to one front, got about 3000 to 3500 miles out of a rear. Including a big motorway trip and they resisted squaring off pretty well to.

The only thing I could fault them on, was when it was wet they were a bit wooden and I found it hard to get feel from the front, they felt the same when they were cold to, but seemed to get heat quite quickly.

IMHO, better than the 014's I had before, but not quite as good as the Diablo Corsa III's I have now.

Hope thats useful.

Cheers Fizz,
That'll do nicely. I wont be sticking them on an SV. They'll be going on a 955i daytona.

got 5700 miles on the strada's rear's got 1 - 1.5 k left , therfore good for about 7k , front is about half worn

EDIT Just had to have rear tyre plugged , time for a new tyre , recon would have got 6.5 - 7k out of the rear

Cheers Steve

running pilot road 2's on my triumph tiger, very very impressed so far. brilliant in the wet, stable, and excellent wear. they'll be fitted to my Hayabusa once the set fitted (BT 56's) wear out, and to my sv once they need doing!
