View Full Version : Rear chicken strips variation?

Someone pointed out this morning that on my rear 2CT the LHS strip is about 3-4 mm whereas the RHS strip is about 10-12mm. On the front they're both equal.
Does this indicate a problem? I'm pretty sure I dont tackle right handers any differently to left handers. Anyone else seen this or know if I should be checking something?
You countersteer going around bends.
It's not unusual for a rider to lean over more on one side than the other, countersteering would make up for this on the front potentially.
Well, that's my take on it obviously. I'd be going by how the bike feels in corners.
My rear conti has RHS - 7mm, LHS -20mm
My front conti has RHS - 3mm, LHS - 11mm
Does that help? :-?
I have to get my confidence up for bends and corners. RHS is due to roundabouts. :(
I must be doing the same on both sides, the chicken strips are equal, that is if I could find them....
Check the rear wheel alignment and that the trye is even on the rim on both sides. Also might be worth checking the average strip size as it will vary.

mine are shorter on left side. I was lookin at it the other day and cannot figure why?

Probably because most riders prefer left hand bends as the camber of the road and the fact your head is not liable to be hit by oncoming traffic.

I assumed it was the roundabouts that use up the tyre RHS...

I thought about the less lean for right handers thingy....but on my SV both strips were the same width front and back. Just looked at my older CBR and it has equal strips both sides on the front and back.
Waiting for a new Blue Flame can* to arrive today so I'll have a look at the alignment while I'm fitting the can.
*All excited...tri oval with two holes to turn me on ;)

If your head is in danger of being hit by oncoming traffic one of two things need to happen:
1) They need to fsck off back to their half of the road. Probably an American driving it.
2) You need to think about your lines a little more.
2p... spent.

I didn't say it was my head. I keep out left as much as possible on RH for a better view through the corner and then turn in late.
Stuartyboy, is it this colour?

Just had a look at mine and the rear is RHS 4mm and LHS 5mm.

I'd expect the RHS to be further over (less strip) than the LHS on UK raods ... I'd also expect the front to reflect the rear ...
As for mine, not measured, but I expect they are about a mile both sides!! ... =; :smt045
