Hi folks,

Was just perusing the wonder that is ebay/fleabay ;) and came across this -

What are your thoughts? Seems like it might do the job to keep those trainers a bit whiter over the summer.

I never wear lace ups when on the bike, after a loop got caught up in something, nearly dropped it. Bike boots always now and they have a reinforced patch.

would never wear trainers or shoes on the bike. Boots all the way.

Having fallen off with trainers on, I can categorically say it's a very very bad idea. The instant my feet touched the floor they just came off. I was very lucky I wasn't going faster!

You don't need specific trainer covers to do this. It's actually fashionable among Japanese and American streetracers to use wristbands on their trainers for this purpose (plus youo can use the other one on your front brake fluid resvoir). Not that riding in trainers is particularly clever, but I ride in trainers occassionally bit (seldom outside town though) I've ridden over 1000 miles in my current pair without even that and they don't have a gear change mark. They are black skate shoes, rather than "chav white" reeboks though. I used to use a wrist band on my old pair, but they were a lighter gray and more prone to marking.

As to riding with laces, my main pair of boots are lace ups. So long as they're done up tight (so the gear lever can't get stuck under loose laces at the bottom end) and that the bits of the knot aren't dangling out from under your trousers, I can't see it being a problem. I've seen police riders with lace ups, so I doubt it's particularly dangerous.

I'd guess it would keep slipping round?

Gearlever wear and tear looks like the reason my Alpinestars will get replaced. They have a reinforced patch that is too far back for the gear lever and has worn through the join between patch and the rest of the boot. They'd probably lasted longer with out the patch!

Lace up boots: I've nearly dropped it when one of the laces of my DMs got caught and stopped my foot going down. :rolleyes:

I have one and it does what it says on the tin. It doesn't slip round as some have suggested and it keeps the laces secure. As for price, it depends on how much your trainers are worth....if they are £20 cheapies then they dont matter but you want to keep expensive trainers in good nick.

That said i would strongly recommend riding in boots, but if you are determined to ride in trainers its pretty decent.

I was wondering this too

I recall a while ago reading about keeping a damp sweatband there to wipe flies off yer visor... is that the deal?

I would avoid laces, sods law says it will get wrapped around the lever/peg.

Well I got laces on my latest bike boots - they make them fit REALLY well, better than any other way,

Of course the laces are THEN hidden away behind a flap that fastens with 3 "ski-boot" like fastenings.

And to get in and out on a daily basis, well I use the zips :)

Belts and Braces AND Drawstring approach :)

To get back on topic tho - <nelson munce> *points at bands* HA HA! </nelson munce>

The laces go down the inside. My only complaint is that the ankle pads took ages to break in, but if you're just popping into town for the evening they're great. And no signs of gear lever wear either.

if i'm wearing lace up boots i always tuck loose ends in just in case-wouldn't like to imagine lace catching in yer chain at 7000rpm...:smt091

I think racers originally used them to soak up any brake fluid that would escape from the resevoir...
