On our way down to Bideford the weekend before last, our mate JT was a victim of the classic 'Smidsy'. A car just pulled out right in front of him. The combined impact speed couldn't have been more than 45mph, but as the following pics show, if he hadn't had crash bungs fitted, and been wearing decent leathers with knee armour, the end result could have been far more serious.

As the above pic shows, the crash bungs were severely bent.
This is why.

The crash bungs took the majority of the impact, but JT's knee suffered a fair amount of damage. His kneecap was broken in two places.

Fortunately, the driver admitted the accident was his fault, and witnesses also told the police that JT hadn't been speeding and wasn't at fault. We're all just glad that the outcome wasn't far more serious, and that the crash bungs did their job!

Actually, I was only saying to JT yesterday that I thought there was a little bit of extra flesh right at the top of the pic:D

Luckily, his partner Emz can take the kids to school, run round after him, and generally TRY to get him to rest. As the driver of the car is bang to rights he will be claiming for personal injury, plus the fact he lost triple time for yesterday. Will take a long time to sort out, I'm sure, but he has mates to help him out if he needs it.

crash bungs do do a great job but they still seem to fold abit too easy for my liking, i know they are ment to absorb some of the impact by bending but a big frigg off crash bung there might have saved much more damage, saved the rad tho which i surpose is what counts.
hope you heal fast fella.

i've heard numerous cases of the motosliders saving legs as they're so long. They look stronger than most too. i hope i don't need to test them but i know they're wider than my legs :)

Glad to see they helped him and sorry to hear about your friend. As untrendy as leg guards are (you know, those things the govt. were trying to force on motorcycles in the 70s), it seems we have an (almost as good) much cooler looking alternative in crash bungs. A friend's took the impact when nailed a sheep on the notorious "thousand sheep road" in Brecon.

Honestly I am not sure that would be a good idea, I would prefer that that bit of the bar bent rather than risk bending the bar inside the frame and/or possibly the frame.

That looks damn sore, I'm surprised you can even stand..., gws dude!
