View Full Version : Torque Wrench
Going to take the rear wheel off in the morning.
Got a 22mm hex on the spindle and looks like a 24mm nut?
Not shifting the nut without a torque wrench :( .
SV book says 100 N.m, can anyone recommend a size?
Obviously 100 N.m but I'd think it might need to be a bit over, possibly 110-120 N.m?
Anyone got any advice on this?
Cheers

I do mine up with a 65Nm torque wrench (K4) then add a bit. 100Nm is excessive - of course you don't want it to come undone, but you also want to be able to undo it again at some point in the future.
Argos do a wee cheapy, £14 or soemthing, that covers this range. Can't remember the details off hand, but it worked fine for me! What you really need is a strong bar to remove the nut, and use the torque wrench to put it back together. Halfords, B&Q etc. all sell them, not too expensive...
Cheers Guys
Yeah, think I'll get a torque wrench and a universal tomorrow.

Remember, don't use the torque wrench to undo the axle! Only for tightening. The huuuuuge one that Machine Mart sell is OK, good at the price... In fact, cheap enough that I bought 2, and use one as a massive ratchet and the other as a torque wrench. It's not exactly the height of accuracy, but it's good enough for big numbers.

Yeah, cheers Northy, on the case today.
Off out to buy a BIG universal flexible handle, a 24mm socket and a torque wrench.
Hopefully get it on my old mans account at trade price and don't pay until end of June... result! :)
Cheers
Going to mail order a Torque wrench from these guys.http://www.tooled-up.com/default.aspNearly peed myself laughing when the local hardware store asked for £140 for a 130 N.m wrench. Halfords upto 200 N.m at £50, Argos £15 out of stock Not 100% impressed with the Oxford rear stand. Does ok a wee bit shoogley.Cheers
Just ordered this wee beauty.
Half the price of the halfords one :D

Lidl have wrenches in stock at the moment. I didn't check the exact spec on them since I already have what I need. Their tools are normally of decent enough quality though with TUV, CE & GS markings etc.
Price is about £13 or so.
Cheers,
;)

Just ordered this wee beauty.
If it's good enough for the Haynes manual ;)
The Argos one and the one Lidl usually do is the exact same as the Machine Mart one btw folks, it's 1/2 inch but comes with a step-down, or at least both of mine did.
Just got another one off ebay, 1/2" 40-210. Will got well with my 8-60 from halfords I got for xmas. Need to get a 1/2" to 3/4" convertor.
