View Full Version : I'm a bit sick...
Well, last week I was sent home for two and a half days \\:D/- this week I've been sent home until Thursday :drink: . <<< none of that because of :smt025 (drugs) AND I can't do :riding: because...
I might have a slipped disc around C5/C6 - not confirmed yet but I'll be sent for a scan in due course and to be honest, I've had lots of pain relief and I can safely say that so far none of it works!!:smt017 Left shoulder and arm are mostly affected, so there's still a couple of things I can do:smt081 ...which is nice:cool:
To complicate things, the bike is on MOD land and needs an MOT on Friday...so I'll get myself a 'friend' to sort that one out...I hope.
So...bums!! Can I say that here? Bums Bums Bums and Bums again!!:-({|=
Argh, avast you scurvy sea-dog!
Awh GWS - hope you get back on the high seas soon. :grouphug:

Hey!! Good one!!:D Damn those privateers!!
Thinking on, I'm considering cancelling the MOT, getting a friend to drop the bike home, then may be SORN it...tax expires end of May anyways...and if this ends up being long term...too many what ifs!!:smt017 .
Do you lose NCB when SORN'd?
Steve H

You will not lose your NCB while the bike is SORNed.
On the basis that you carry on with your Insurance (for fire and theft at least)

I did something similar recently. I think that I slipped a disc slightly and trapped a nerve. It was agony, I couldn't even lie down to sleep so had to try to kip in a chair. The doc prescribed amitriptyline and some strong anti-inflammatories. I think that the anti-inflammatories might have damaged my hearing (it's a known side effect) so be careful with them. Amitriptyline is an anti-depressant, but also acts as a muscle relaxant which reduced pressure on the nerve. It was the only thing that let me sleep properly.
I was signed off work for a couple of weeks, but we were really busy so I went back a week early.

strong pain killers don't always help. I tried allsorts of lotions and potions
It took a year of agony to get into a pain clinic in our hospital before I was diagnosed with a spinal fracture. you can imagine the relief. My gp told me ' you must have pulled something'
Don't get fobbed off.
hope you get it fixed
on the other hand you can always try a chinese lady standing on your back!!
a bottle of rum should help with the pain. ;)

Was gonna say don't worry about the bike being on MOD land as they wouldn't know about the MOT but if the tax is due then good idea to move it, they may consider you a terrorist and just blow it up

:( Update:_
Three weeks of Physio, pain relief and x-ray later...
Six years ago it was confirmed that I had osteoarthritis in both knees...which I has suspected about 18 months previous.
It has now taken hold of my neck which is a pi$$er because...
The neck consists of seven vertebrae numbered C1 to C7 - the 'cervical' part of the spine. As you probably know, between the vertabrae (except for C1 & C2) are disks of cartilage (this is what pops out when you get a slipped disk). With osteoarthritis, this cartilage breaks down which results in excessive wear & tear on the bones because the protective stuff has gone or is going.
In my case, the x-ray coupled with the syptoms show that there is excessive loss of the cartilage between C6 & C7. This has resulted in 'osteophytes' being produced - little growths or protrusions on the bone. These growths, especially on the vertabrae, have the effect of 'pinching' or snagging the nerves that extend from said vertabrae. The nerves leave the spinal cord and travel through two holes, one on each side of the vertabrae, to do their thing - currently the nerve on the left side exiting from either C6 or C7 has been beasted producing 'cramp' like pain in my left arm and shoulder. It has also produced some loss of movement of that arm. There is currently no bicep reflex and it's painful all the time. In addition, there are obvious signs of degeneration of the disks betwixt ( ) C4/C5 and C5/C6.
So - the cure. Well, as we all know arthritis is the be all and end all really - it's a process that many people go through when they've got it - there is no real cure. There may be a slim chance of having an op on my neck but that's a long way off. In any event, an op won't get rid of the arthritis, it'll just make things easier for a while. There is physio of course which helps - it's surprising seeing how quickly you can see 'muscle wastage' - :smt103 . There are a couple of other tricks up the sleeves of the medical people but I'm waiting to see a consultant on that for a list of 'options'.
Physio also said "The bike's gotta go". I looked at him. He said "Seriously".
And he was.:smt009 :pale: :smt022 . So, the plan at the moment it to do nothing until I've seen the consultant - get a firmer way ahead. I'm still riding the bike - there's no increase in pain, but it's difficult rolling it to turn etc, so I'm into precision parking at the moment! Oh - and I did get it MOT'd, and I've just renewed the tax...insurance due in a fortnight:rolleyes: . If it's all bad news, then it'll be a case of selling the bike and getting an automatic car:smt103 ...so I'll have a pain in the ar$e aswell!!
So there you have it - it's official - I'm old and grinding to a h a l ttttt.
Bugga.
Mrs Stingo has stated that she'll be happy to push the wheel chair around.
Yeah - thanks for that!
Anyway, the ship of Stingo ain't heading for port yet [-o< - but it has been holed around the waterline:(
Apols for the long post - but at least it kept y'all busy for a bit.
Laters all.:salut: Gonna listen to some Rory Gallagher now. Got a nice Clynelish to climb into this weekend.

Perhaps if we all donated a small amount of cartillage (sort of like a charity fund raiser/doner event), the doctors could perform an org transplant.
Ooh, we could have a bouncy castle, candyfloss, that coloured coconut stuff and dodgems (though you'll have to stay off the dodgems, don't want you to do any further damage) and we could have the first org fate/fair type thing!!!
Sorry, must stay off the lsd!

You'll see me outside the main gate with my dog yelling "Big isssshhhooooo!!":D
ahh crap. :(
Hope the consultant gives you an option that means you don't have to give up the bikes.
Oh, tell Mrs Stingo you don't need her to push the wheelchair as you'll be bolting a SV engine to it. ;)

Ouch, that's nasty news :( Fingies crossed on consultants giving better news.
Out of curiosity - I can understand doing anything bendy with a slipped disc is a no-no, but when that bit's settled down, could bike riding actually make arthritis worse? I can understand it being potentially uncomfortable (cold weather, when discs go and the like) but I can't see how it could actually accelerate arthritis?
I should point out that I'm not a doctor. BUT, I did watch an episode of Casualty once. And I got quite into Scrubs.
Ah now see Minimatt, that's trouble with the 'A' word - it's a degenerative condition. Not a slipped disc. In my case the A is now a real pain in the neck, my neck...it likes to break down the cartiledge...this causes bone friction and aggravates the nerves in the vicinity (in my case)...(I think I saw it on Dr Finley's Casebook!)
/scottish lilt on "Have ya no had yerrr porrage oats?" \scottish lilt off.
But yes...hmmm...SV engine...wheelchair...hmmm...now...time is of the essence...if only I could find where I put that socket set...
Is there one of these:riding: but with a wheelchair instead?:smt046
