View Full Version : 14-47 sprocket kit, new chain needed?

I can't seem to find an answer to this, do i need a new chain if I swap to 14-47 from standard? The chain I have is quite long (i.e. the wheelbase is nearly as long as the swingarm allows), but I'm not sure how many links.

Also, anyone know of a supplier that will send out of the UK?

I don't know about delivery outside UK, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. Try B&C Express.

To answer your question, you're going up 1 on the back, down 1 on the front. The down on the front is the same as 2 on the back, so in effect, you're loosing 3 teeth on the back.

This means a standard length chain will fit no problem, but because you're going down in teeth, a standard length chain will leave you with less room for adjustment by default. I think the standard chain is 110 links? Might be worth looking at 108. Talk to B&C about it, they know their stuff, seriously.

I'm not sure I understand your maths though! If I go up one on the back, that's +1, then down one on the front, that's -2, isn't that a total of down 1 on the back?
Also, Is the standard sprocket 46? It's a naked curvey.

I'll talk to B&C, you're not the first person to say good things about them!

Sorry yea, maths was wrong. The standard rear on my pointy S is 46. On a curvy, I don't know unfortunately. So from my perspective, going up 1 on the back (previous post assumes down one :oops:) and down one on the front.

Overall effect of missing a tooth on the back. This means that by default, you'd loose a little chain adjustment, but not much (1 tooth's worth) on a standard chain.

Ok, great! I should be ok with the standard chain I reckon,worth a go anyway.

In terms of the gearing, you're probably right, but I think we were refering solely to the effect it would have on the necessary chain length - either that or I've totally misunderstood the whole thing!:smt102
