Tankbag as can stick map in the clear plastic pocket and I think I'd always be worrying that the tailpack had fallen off :)

Plus, missus would probably be on the back and she'd just complain if she had to sit on a tailpack :)

My tank bag converts to a tail pack. If I'm on my own I'll strap it on the pillion seat, else it goes on the tank. I didn't vote cos there's no 'it depends' type option.

Tankbag, althought I'm pretty much the same as Luckypants.

Most of the time it'll go on the tank, but it'll also go on the pillion seat. I have an oxford sports tankbag, meaning I can remove the bag from the magnetic part, put the bag on the back & put a map in the magnetic part, if I wanted to do that.

Tailpack.

I'm too short to be comfortable trying to control the bike with that lump of bag in front of me... a full tankbag practically comes up just under my chin... :o

TAILPACK.

I use the oxford 1st time one, and with the underseat strap and a couple of bungees it is well secure. I've had a small rucksack strapped to it with a tent on top held in place with a cargo net and another couple of bungees and went touring for a whole "long" weekend, riding back in 40/50mph winds and rain that would have Noah Shi*ing himself, and it never moved once.

Then there was the time I went to work with a magnetic (small) tankbag on which had my bait in it for work (that's lunch to those of you who are either posh or from the south). It sort of came off and fell off while negotiating a roundabout, bounced off a car and went under the wheels of my mates bike. I dunno who was more upset, him cos it nearly caused him to fall off, or me cause it totally ruined my sandwich.

I take you've started packing for AR07 then hovis?

Oh yeah, tank-bag because I've got a seat hump and tailpack won't fit sadly.

Go with the tankbag H, You won't end up doing a kind of hopping goose step to get on, and you won't be worrying that your kits dropped of on the motorway. Oh and don't forget to tie a length of string to your puck.

He's right, the few times I've carried stuff on the back I've had to keep checking that its still on there. Mind you I do seem to suffer from mild OCD when i get on the bike, i can't tell you how many times I have to check my pocket-zips are closed, then I have to double check and triple check to make sure i didn't miss one. Five minutes later I'm doing it again, same with the helmet strap and air vent.

Tankbag all the way. After going to France with a guy on an R1 who HAD a tailpack.

He overtook me, tailpack slipped back, bungees then pulled it back towards the bike. Unfortunately by this point it was being pulled towards the back wheel. Tailpack gets wedged between rear wheel and subframe, locks back wheel up at 90. He held it for a hundred yards or so until it spat him off down an embankment. He missed a brick wall by about 2 feet.

Collarbone and ankle broken. Plus, cos he didnt inform his insurance company that he went to France, he wasnt insured.

So ever since then, i never even considered a tailpack.

I have a cargo endurance tailpack, and last year I went down to Shell island via Bala in seriously bad weather. I also had my tent, sleeping bag attached and the bag held up superbly, no movement and kept things nice and dry.
Also being a short a*se, I dont think I could manage with a large tankbag.

Slight derail I know, sorry hovis, but when I used to go to Shell Island they never let bikes on the site, instead they had to park outside the gate. Always put me off the idea of going up there on two wheels. Have they now changed their policy, if so I may well take a bimble back over there for old-times sake.

What kind of black magic makes this possible?

TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

THERE'S A VOICE,
THAT KEEPS ON CALLING ME.
DOWN THE ROAD,
IS WHERE I'LL ALWAYS BE.
EVERY STOP I MAKE,
I'LL MAKE A NEW FRIEND.
CAN'T STAY FOR LONG, JUST TURN AROUND AND I'M GONE AGAIN.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANNA SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON

DOWN THIS ROAD, THAT NEVER SEEMS TO END,
WHERE NEW ADVENTURE, LIES JUST AROUND THE BEND

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, THE WHOLE WORLD IS MY HOME

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

THERE'S A WORLD, THAT'S WAITING TO UNFOLD,
A BRAND NEW TALE, NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD,
WE'VE JOURNEY'D FAR BUT, YOU KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG,
WE'RE ALMOST THERE AND WE'VE PAID OUR FARE, WITH THE HOBO SONG.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANT TO SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON.

SO IF YOU WANNA JOIN ME FOR A WHILE,
JUST GRAB YOUR HAT, COME TRAVEL LIGHT,
THAT'S HOBO STYLE.

MAYBE TOMORROW I'LL FIND WHAT I CALL HOME,
UNTIL TOMORROW, YOU KNOW I'M FREE TO ROAM

Still have to park near the gate, but I was with friends so locking up wasn't bad, plus there was nearly always someone around, even in the middle of the night.

Go naked or use a rucksack.
I have a high exhaust but it doesn't matter as the tailbags are designed well.

I got a lotta stuff to carry, off 2 france so think tailbag wouldn't be big enough

Sometimes i use both when i go away for a week or so. You can get alot in a tailpack and it's safe enough on the back strapped on properly. If i use my tank bag and it's full i use it to lean on when on long journeys, helps me rest my arms . The only trouble i find is getting on and off SV with tailpack on, so in a way the tank bag is easier to use!
