View Full Version : GP style exhausts on an SV?

anyone know if the above idea would work, afaik there's no exhaust manufacturer that produces the twin or single gp style exhausts as found on aftermarket GSXRs etc for the SV, but after hating the look it's growing on me - has anyone attempted such a thing? any massive problems you might encounter? no idea if it's feasable so please don't think i'm a numpty straight out of the gate
this is the kind of look i'd be after:
http://www.moto-racing.co.uk/ccp51/media/images/product_detail/Laser%20Exteme%20R6%2006.jpg
not a stubby can but the twin pipes...
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i136/stu369/DSC00023.jpg
Not a flattering photo of it (imagine the pillion peg gone & the sealant faded) and it's not twin pipes but it's a working example.
The bikes that are designed for these pipes tend to have baffling before the pipe, unlike the SV, so if you do it, it is likely to be ridiculously loud.

...to be ridiculously loud.
come on Stu - 'fess up to what happened at brands
Just a few windows broke, ears started bleeding, not much really :-dd
& I missed the best part of the day going home to change it
BUt no rectification notice when I was stopped by the police (within a week of putting it on)
is it a proper exhaust? looks very loud, is there baffles in it?
It sounded the dogs danglies on track though;)

Okay here is the article from www.cbr-forum.org.uk (http://www.cbr-forum.org.uk/), so thanks to them! Please note, this isn't gospel - just an artcile that some people may find helpful.
Riding Position how to, and how not too...!
Guys & Gals,
After much debate about riding position, and how people want to improve their riding, and particulalry their riding in corner, or in their quest to get their knee down, I've had several requests on how to do body position and how not too... So I've got the bike out of the garage (for the first time in 9 months Crying or Very sad) , and taken these piccys.
Now I need to make a few provisos about this article. Firstly, everyone has their own individual riding style, what will feel good too you, etc. I am in no way trying to change this, however as many of you know I'm a very big fan of California Superbike School and have been through the entire course, and additionally completed several day 4 sessions on a 1-2-1 basis. Now if you were to go through the school yourselves, they would overhaul your body position to something similiar to this, so for those of you that can't afford the 1200 quid to go through the entire school programme, you may find this article of use. This will not however, ever replace the school programme, and if you can do it, I'd reccomend you do.
Secondly, this article is only in particularly talking about how to ride fast, either for fast road, or for track days. You couldn't and wouldn't want to ride like this for normal everyday riding, so please don't try as you'll be very knackered. Also riding as shown properly, is very hard work, so be warned.....
Ok, we're going to split this article into two stages. Stage 1 will be showing the common riding mistakes many riders make. I will post photos to describe the problem, pointing out specific areas that are wrong. Following on from this, I will post pictures on good body position and photos showing that too. Hopefull everyone will be able to tell the difference..... Smile
Bad riding position
http://upload4.postimage.org/924981/position1.jpg (http://upload4.postimage.org/924981/photo_hosting.html)
This image shows most riders normal riding position, or at least those who are fairly new to riding. Please note on this image two fundamental problems. 1) Body not right back to the rear of the seat, .

I recall northy fitting an R6 remus (GP style) powercone to his SV. There is a video of it on youtube somewhere. Aparently it fouls the swingarm though.

after popping in to see what was new i've put my name down for a scorpion street extreme at my local dealers to be fitted after it's run in, should be fitted on the 21st june, i expect the baffle to go missing soon afterwards and will try and record a vid for you guys who are still umming and ahhing about which can - i initially thought the stubby cans wouldn't suit the sv but having seen the scorpion i think it should be fine:)

will you post a pic and comments about it when you get it, because I was considering getting the same for mine.
That is, provided I don't just go ahead and get one myself anyway...

how much modding would be needed to get the akapovic one on there and will i be stopped every 10 seconds or not??

None at all
well, cut exhaust as for any aftermarket, make some cross cuts in the end of the pipe attached to the bike. Separate the holey metal from the pipe on the bike put some sealant around the edge and shove the Akra inside the pipe between the pipe & the holey metal maybe add some more sealant. Tighten the jubilee clip to compress the pipe on the bike.
Got pulled once before so far touch wood, but that was because it sounded so good it pushed me to ride too fast.

:-$ These cans are all too loud :)
Well, the Remus is OK actually. Quieter than many full sized slipons, but still too loud for my incresingly geriatric tastes. I could be convinced to sell it ;) But you'd be on your own fitting it. I really like the Lazer and Arrow ones, but I know without even bothering to fit them that they'd be too loud for me.
Here's another I did:

Which IMO looked just amazing, but sounded awful, very flat and rough.

Aye, but this is no ordinary can, it's about half the length and tapered too, so the actual working volume is maybe 25% of a normal can.

Ello all,
First thing is i finally got my SV :p Past my test a couple of wks back, and decided to go for my SV! Its a 99 model, in yellow!
Anyway, im after getting one of these Scorpion Street Extremes for it. I think they look amazing, and after seeing all the youtube vids, they sound awsome too! But theres also the option of going a bit ''louder'' and going for either the Arrow ''Megaphone'' or the Akrapovic ''Megaphone''. Both sound awsome, and i think ive read theres some guy on here who runs his Akra everyday  is this true? If so is it baffled? Do you get stopped etc?
Also can someone tell me, would the Arrow and Akra slip-ons (with them being designed for Yami R6's) do they fit on standed SV650 pipework?
Cheers all! Top forum! :smt077

Said maniac is Stu, and yep, he uses the Unsilencer all the time I think, except when being kicked off trackdays. I know I couldn't live with it though, I never even tried riding with it, no point.
THe other stuff most likely won't bolt straight on. R6 will be easier than GSXR, as the GSXR ones usually have a sharp bend in the pipes- the collector/presilencer has a side exit, while the R6 apparently has a backwards facing exit. I think Stu found his fits inside the stock headers, but the Akrapovic is made of very thin titanium, I'd be surprised if others work like that. A wee link pipe probably wouldn't be expensive to get made up though.

you will get plenty of attention without the baffle i promise you, although i've passed a police car every time i've been out so far with nothing so far, but it depends on where you live and how you ride. even rumbling along in 30mph zones in 3rd/4th i still get people putting fingers in ears (not sarcastic, to actually block the noise), dogs going a bit mad and small children almost falling over - makes me feel guilty until i think it could be one of them that jumps out in front of me... in fact they should be grateful;)

I'd bet money the Arrow will be quieter, but probably still a bit rowdy, even with the baffle in. I'm not sure I like the look of the street extreme- the GSXR one they did with the tapered front's lovely though- but it does sound good. And I don't usually like scorps.
PS, I will be selling my R6 Remus soon :)
